Absolutely. That would be a very frigid soaking. It has hypothermia written all over it.

I actually suspect this lens is a good idea from a business perspective and I wouldn't be surprised if it does fairly well. It's one of the few lenses that plays to the strength and makes sense with mirrorless (because it's compact and the f11 isn't an issue with an EVF). It would not work as a DSLR lens, so photographers who can live with f11 but would sure like the 800mm reach on FF will have incentive to move to Canon's mirrorless system.
That said, I'd never buy the lens for myself. I'm not so much bothered by the f11 as the MFD and the fact that it's a prime. A lens that focuses closer and zooms would provide a great deal more options for creativity in the field as would, of course, a faster aperture. However, in the end, it's all about trade-offs. Faster aperture is better for photographic purposes, but not necessarily for the wallet or the back.

My desktop computer is ten years old and my laptop is 13 years old. It is hard to determine a piece of electronics. I've had two cameras, a Pentax K-5 and an Olympus E-M5, give out after a little more than four years. I have a K200D that still works after more than twelve years. Electronic equipment is a bit of crap-shoot. It can give out at any time, but can keep going for years and years. I plan on using my KP for as long as it lasts, whether that's four years or fourteen years. Same with my K-1. These cameras have all the features I need and, since there's been little improvement in imaging quality from sensors over the last ten years, I'm not expecting any improvement in the future.

Unfortunately it won't fetch the price of a Gursky.

Yes, the KP video does look reasonably well at high ISOs (which is what the video contends), but that's because the under-powered h264 compression the camera uses makes the video look like it has been subjected to loads of noise reduction. Video shot at ISO 100 doesn't look so great, but video at ISO 1600+ might gain from it.

This is at least partly subjective. I know photographers, including professionals, who are fine with ISO 3200 on m43. I'm on the other side of the spectrum. About 99% of my m43 shots are at ISO 200, the base ISO of the E-M5 cameras I've used. I'm now experimenting with m43 as a wildlife system, so I'll have to start using higher ISOs; but I'll try my best to keep the ISOs under 1,000. I simply care for what I see with Olympus and higher ISO. It's not just the noise, the images have less saturation and less "depth," if that makes any sense. I sometimes suspect that Olympus has the worst in camera processing for raw files in the business. I've actually been impressed with some of the images I've seen taken with Panasonic m43 cameras, and if I ever buy another m43 camera, it will probably be a Panasonic. (Olympus is said to have better AF and perhaps slightly better stabilization.)

Pentax doesn't have a choice in the matter. They're not an independent company with access to resources. They must depend on the kindness of strangers --- or rather, on Ricoh. And Ricoh doesn't want to lose money in a declining camera market. This year they'll fix the main lens that had issues in the line-up --- i.e., the DA* 16-50. That will leave just the DA* 55-135. As for the DA Limited primes --- they are a unique case. Because of how they were designed, they are rather expensive for what they provide. So customers either think these limiteds bring something to the table and are willing to put up with their "technological inferiority" in terms of AF, or they don't. Adding weather sealing will only make them more expensive, and adding AF motors is probably not feasible (and if feasible would make them even more expensive and maybe larger and heavier).
The Pentax APS-C line-up may not be "complete," but it eminently serviceable for the needs of many photographers. With Pentax's limited resources, it's going to take a while to fill up the holes, but if Pentax can stay around, they'll have all the time in the world. We may very well be entering a long-term plateau in terms of technology in both cameras and lenses, so the days when companies needed to release a new camera every two or three years or a new line-up of lenses every seven or eight years should be drawing to a close. Once Pentax, for instance, comes out with this new DA* 16-50 PLM, that particular hole will be filled for a good long time, as there won't be any reason to make a new version of the lens because it will be very hard to make a lens that is significantly better at the same price point.
