What about the Tamron 17-35/2-8-4 Di?
I don't know if you can find it new but show up used now and then.
I havent tried mine with film (and don't have the K-1... yet!) but works fine with my K-5.

Yes, the Tamron AF 70-300 Di will work with a Pentax K-1. It works fine with my K-5 and my Z-1p.

I think so too. In my opinion the target for K-01 is the Canon G1X. But it need a collapsible zoom lens so that the size remains contained.

Compare Canon G1X and K-01 dimensions side by side

This zoom could turn the K-01 into a very interesting "large pocket" camera.

Indeed. I guess that like you I took the wrong (was it really?) pill. Going with the flow makes life easier but it's so much duller.

Not really, just like many Canikon users aren't conforming with a group. They choose according to their needs that happen to be similar to others. I choose my first DSLR (a K10D) after looking at what was available at the time. The K10D was comparable to the Nikon D80 but less expensive and with SR. And look at pros (the ones that shoot photography for a living). Like mtansley said,

they need certain services and equipment availability to work so choosing a brand that provides that is natural. A photojournalist using a Pentax would have trouble replacing broken equipment during the job.

The video is about those who buy a camera (car, phone, clothes, etc) to be like their neighbors without thinking. And that represents a significant part of the market share.

A friend of mine has a Sony DSLR that she won and she believes that her photos would be better if she had a Caniikon just because she sees better photos from others that use Canikons. If everybody does one thing it must be the best thing to do. It is the same with religion, politics, economy, etc.

The new competition in Health Care

Nesster, it seems you fail to see the main difference between health care and american football.

The fact is that US is the country in the world that spends more (either in % of GDP and in USD per capita) in health care without great results. In Portugal where we have a national health system (somewhat based in the UK's NHS) we spend one third of what US spends with similar, and sometimes even better, results. (disclaimer: it is so extremely complicated to compare health systems that WHO stopped doing it's ranking)

Anyone that as studied health economics knows that the reason is that the health market is not ruled by economics market laws. There are way to many failures in the information parity for the player to act knowledgeably. The doctor knows what the patient problem is and the patient doesn't while not knowing how much the patient is willing to pay. That's why there is need for the agency function regulated by and independent party (the state).

Health care is a very complex market. For example: why should you pay for the treatment of someone else's TB? Easy, you don't want to get infected too. And why should you pay for cancer treatment for your neighbor? It's called risk sharing, no one can be sure that he won't have cancer but the treatments are so expensive that will ruin most family's economies but sharing risk means that will cost very little to each one.

Private insurances are great until you get really sick and need spend huge amounts of money. If you break a leg or need new glasses all is fine but treatment of hemophilia can cost millions of dollars over the life time of a patient, specially while they are kids. Should one let the kids die? What if they where your kids?

It is funny when people hide behind politics to give opinions when they haven't studied the question deep enough. Most of the critics of "obamacare" have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. (well, I guess most of defenders don't know either)

Please don't take it from me, go look at WHO and OECD data! It is all there.

Sorry to inform but polimers are here to stay. Since then polymers have evolved a lot. Think about carbon fiber tripods. Even carbon fiber bycicles are available today.

Aparently those "stupid guys from Volvo" where on the right track, just like some other "stupid guys" like Da Vinci when he designed the chain.

Polymers can be extremely resistant and a lot less expensive than metal. Newer polymers will replace most metallic parts eventually.

Opinions of the K-01 from outside the bubble

Just my opinion...

I really like it the yellow K-01 but is missing a couple of things to be a hit:

1) optional viewfinder (I guess someone already noticed it :)) - please Pentax/Ricoh make a viewfinder that connects to HDMI port, can't be that hard.

2) one lens that competes with Canon G1X in size Compare camera dimensions side by side

So they are so close to being an excellent option as a compact alternative to a DSLR. Could atract many DSLR users to k-mount.

Olá Angélica,

Sorry guys but I'll continue in portuguese since I don't know how the translator works.

Camera Market Share

There are no crisis in percentages unless there were no cameras sold.

The total percentage will allways be 100.

I don't think Hoya even looks at this numbers as they are a sum of several markets that they are approching with diferent strategies. They are looking at absolute growth, profitability and things like that.

I know it's a little far fetched but what if Hoya/Pentax release a EVIL camera compatible with Samsung mount?

They have worked together before (Samsung GX cameras, Samsung sensor).

It could be good for both companies.

I don't know if the lens is any good but looking at your equipment I would say: what are you waiting for?

100 USD can't be that much for someone who spent what you've spent on glass. And if you don't like it you can sell it without a great loss.

K-5 tested in Popular Photography

Well, the K-5 is as fast at EV 0 as K-7 at EV 2.

At EV 2, the K-5 takes 0.87s that compares to 1.18 for K-7, 0.59 for Canon 60D and 0,76 for Nikon D7000.

With lower light Pentax starts to lose a lot o f time but down to EV 2 it compares well. It is the slowest but not by much. A good improvement by Pentax.

Have fun,
