Yep, Ash is right, the HDR is a bit over the top. The glow is a dead give away. I like the first image, but you should clone out the UFO as mentioned before. Square it up and back of the HDR effect just bit and I think you have a winner.

Nice shots of the kids. For future shots, I like the ones where the baby is asleep and "modeled" into the lower back of a shirtless parent laying down. The result is much nicer than my verbal description.

Hey, I really liked the wall also. The question is where do you want the viewers eyes to go? The eye will naturally move to areas of high contrast. In your original crop, three areas competes for the eye: top and bottom right and of course you. Even in the last crop you still have the lower right area that competes for you eye.

Do you have any room to move back to take a shot? Sometimes a wide/distance shot can create an image where everything works.

Am I reading your post correctly? You created the silhouette in PP from a normal exposure? If so, that can be very tough to do. I find myself searching for detail in the model due to the partial lighting.

Overall good job. As mentioned before, the eyes are a little dark but I think it adds to the mood you are trying to create. A couple of technical nits on the crop ... should not crop at a joint (knees) and there is unnecessary space above the head.

Great colors. I would try to crop the first one tighter. If you want us to focus on the light house, crop it tighter leaving a smaller border of color.

Technology is moving very quickly. It makes sense to take a look every 2-3 years to see if the features offered will enhance your skills. Otherwise, spend your money on good quality lenses.

The issue is that your eye is drawn to contrast (or light over dark in this photo). Unfortunately, that is to the right where nothing is in focus. The next place the eye moves is to the undiscernable object towards the bottom. If that is the area you want us to focus on, then a tighter crop might be in order.
