I am inclined to think they are both adults, and that the smaller one on the right is a female - but I don't claim that to be an "expert" opinion!!

These two sat together, changing posture now and then, for at last 4-5 minutes. Attachment 573505 |

Those look pretty good to me. Were these using the Pentax 1.4x or the Kenko 2x? Aperture and Shutter Speed? I get the impression that the day was a little overcast?

Back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I recall that when Pentax was still selling this lens as a current lens, Pentax only sold it together with a monstrously heavy wooden tripod!

Thank you all!
The bird was most co-operative, hanging around while I tried to get the best position for the shot.

I originally started (in digital) with a cheap second-hand K50 in late 2018, some basic lens, and a gap of nearly 40 yrs away from photography (late 1970s early 1980s - Pentax K2 and Pentax ME). As a result, I was making all sorts of stupid mistakes (like not checking my shutter speed and shooting waaay too slow hand-held - motion blur all over the place!!!)
The jump to the KP seemed mind-blowing, but I also accompanied that step-up with 3 modern lens - the 55-300mm PLM, the 16-85mm, and the 100mm Macro, and eventually the 150-450mm (all Pentax gear). That 150-450mm gave me some great close-up pics with good detail that was definitely a step-up from the 55-300mm PLM (which is still a good lens).
The K3 iii, with the 150-450 is giving me more keepers of birds in flight shots, and I am extremely surprised that I am, for the most part, using the 150-450mm lens mostly hand-held with the K3 iii.
I love the little joystick on the K3 iii for moving the focus point for better framing, and I am getting better results when trying burst shooting modes.
I don't push my luck with high ISO shots (except by the occasional mistake and inattention!) so cannot comment on how the KP and K3 iii compare in that department.
And with 78 yr old eyes, and so little experience with digital, I am probably not the best person to comment on other more technical comparisons - eg dynamic range, exposure performance etc.
It might be interesting to see what stories/comments/opinions you might get from more experienced members who have used both cameras, if you opened a thread with that question.

Unless you are attempting extreme crops, you should still get decent results with K1 (the K1 has plenty of megapixels). Would be interested to see some sample pics. Make sure that if you are shooting hand-held, your shutter speed is not too slow
I would add my voice to those recommending the Pentax 1.4x teleconverter. I have not used it a lot with my 150-450mm, but with the proviso of using it only in good lighting, it produces good results, and I have seen many examples of excellent results by others who use it more often - esp on the 150-450mm lens thread!

These are all great photos, but I especially liked the second photo, the first of the two pics of the narcissus flycatcher. Very well captured, and a very pleasing bird to see!

"Well, I thought so, but ......."
This pic really comes alive when viewed full screen, magnified, in Flickr - excellent sharpness and detail. Great Pic.
