Frederic, and others have you tried using focus stacking in your macro shots? I have yet to do this outside of the camera and in most cases use the Oly EM1 for macro as it has focus stacking built into the camera. Anyone else?
Cheers

Magenta color cast while using AWB

Thanks, I did some research as well and came to the same conclusion. I only brought this up as I have not seen this behavior where 2 photos with in seconds of each other in the exact same conditions would have two very different color profiles. even if only the JPEG embedded in the raw file.

I currently shoot Leica Q, Oly EM1- Fuji X100 F and Nikon which I have since left for the Pentax. I have not seen this occur in these systems There is no question mixed lighting has a big impact on AWB, since I shoot raw I never concern myself with the WB as it is easy to correct for in PP.

In this case the conditions were more or less controlled, which is why I started asking these questions. Thank you everyone for your input.

Of all the forums I have belonged to this one is by far the best experience, Thank you.

I agree the raw files are just that, raw. Yet how to explain this?

---------- Post added 11-19-17 at 06:03 AM ----------

This only occurs when there is a large amount of red in the image.

Good Call, that is correct the embedded Jpeg is what you would see. The fact is the raw DNG files have the color cast. which I correct for when processing the raw file. Here is the image

Thanks, one would think so, but the images are 1 after the other so if there was a setting issue it would be consistent. The DNG files look just like this. even 10 sec apart two different colors cast 1 normal 1 magenta.

Thanks, for the input as well. I understand the WB issues and never worry about final color balance as I shoot raw and correct as needed. I am new to Pentax and the K1 and to be honest have never seen this with my Nikon gear after shooting weddings for 20 years. I am talking about 2 images 1 sec apart having two different color casts. My samples are just screen captures but the images are identical. I have seen this in my outdoor portrait sessions as well, but only against a red background, like a barn door. It seems that the red throws off the AWB. Just have not seen this in any of my other cameras, just questioning if noticed by anyone else.

I understand how to manage this just wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this as well?

Thanks for the input. These were both window light within seconds of each other. No change in light or quality of light. I have only noticed this when shooting with a large amount of red in the image. What is strange to me 1 image is correct and the next taken after a second has the WB messed up. Very strange indeed. Of course, I shoot raw so I can correct in post processing just wondering why such a dramatic response between images.??

I shoot raw files so no problem making corrections. I have noticed on several occasions that when shooting subjects with a fair amount of red, (red barn door in bkgrd) on even in these new baby photos that I get a color cast which can change from one image to the next under exactly the same lighting conditions. Any ideas how or why?

Been away for awhile and love seeing all of these great photos. I was lucky enough to find a Tokina 28-70 MM 2.8 mint condition on ebay for $200. These are some of the photos from this lens. The lens is fairly sharp and I like the colors it produces.

I do some of the same with raw to Jpeg using Aperture. Afterwards, I use some of the tools in Topaz. There are so many options it is an endless pallet of tools to work with. I end up producing several images from the original each with a different look. Her is one for example

I also am using the Topaz studio and like some of the offerings. A few are a bit over the top for me, but some are useful such at the paint options. Enjoy.

Just for clarification only shooting raw, so maybe I misstated my question. I should have said crop of the sensor size. not JPEG compression. Thanks Adam.

Now that I have had the camera for a couple of months and starting working with a fair amount of files I am starting to wonder if I need the full file size. Just wondering what others are doing. For example, when I shoot with the Irix 15 MM I like having the full file as I tend to do a fair amount of crop with the image. On the other hand in using the 77mm I can see using half of the file size. I typically like to keep the file sizes under 20 MB for stock photo libraries.

So what are some of you doing? Shoot full rez files or select smaller files and when to change it up based on what?

These are a few from my most recent travels at the Smokey Mountain National Park.. Taken with the Irix 15 mm for the most part. The files from the K1 are so clean very little PP needed.
