Samyang is clearly phasing out it's K-mount support now.

That's unfortunate. But I'm so happy it lasted as long as it did.
Samyang made lenses have greatly enhanced my enjoyment of photography.
In particular, their 135mm f/2.0 is excellent.

Pentax SMC-A 70-210 Disassembly

Welcome, vegabond.

Yeah, that SMC A 70-210 is a challenge. As huge10 noted, the key is to unscrew the filter ring piece, and then the hood will come off.

Here's a link to a different thread with some information:
Disassembling front element/group from Pentax-A 1:4 70-210mm - PentaxForums.com

I've become more cautious since I posted in that thread. And I'd suggest you think carefully about what member niceshot advised there.

Good luck!

Since this is a fantasy thread, I chose three lenses I'll probably never even see, much less own.

My JCII Passed shirt arrived yesterday and I like it! You did a nice job on the design, Ben.

Here's a picture of my new shirt and an old lens:

I'd also like to add a plug for K David's Takumar Bayonet 135 f/2.8. My own copy has good sharpness and contrast with a surprisingly short minimum focus distance of 1.2m.

The sale on shirts appears to be over. But I wanted to follow up on my order anyway.

It took a few weeks, but my shirt arrived today and it's exactly as promised.
The fabric is lightweight, but the quality looks and feels good.

I'll be curious to see if any "normal" people will know what the numbers on the shirt are for.
Or if they'll even care. :p

And no, the shirt didn't come with a M 50mm f/1.4 lens included. Sorry. I just added mine to the photo for fun.

Edit: Oops! I fibbed about the lens in the photo. That's not a M 50 f/1.4, it's a K. :o

Okay. Did you scroll down to post #4 in that thread? Is that helpful?

Anyway, I'll recap here what I know about my own Super Takumar 200.

With my lens, using a dish washing rubber glove for grip, the top end simply unscrewed from the barrel. If your top end is stuck, try heating it with a hair dryer. The top piece on my lens has two elements.

I'd think the name ring should unscrew if you have a friction tool of the correct size. I usually use a scrap of rubber glove and the open end of a bottle or jar. And the second element appears to be held in place by a slotted retaining ring. You'll need a lens spanner to loosen that.

The next group is now exposed and should also unscrew from the barrel. It has two elements which appear to be held in place by retaining rings. I presume the retainers are threaded and should unscrew if needed. Again, try heat if the parts are stuck. And if you need a solvent for glue or cement, try a few drops of isopropyl alcohol.

Here's my lens apart. The second photo shows the retaining ring of the second element with the spanner slots circled.

Edit: Oh, I see from your photo you may already have discovered what I've just told you?
I've never completely disassembled the front groups, but if you have any more questions, I'll try to help.

That's an interesting subject, Ivan. I've shied away from corrective adapters due to the (supposed) inferior image quality they produce. Yet I happily shoot with broken / damaged lenses such as my Sears 500. And I occasionally experiment with reversing lens elements to get unconventional rendering.

Something to think about...

By the way, I've read that it may take Mr. Hendrickson some time to respond to inquiries.

Have any of you here ever seen a Sears mirror lens? Sears did offer 500mm mirror lenses in their catalog for several years in the 1980s. But they seem to be scarce, so they probably didn't sell very many. That's not surprising considering the asking price for a 500mm in the 1982 Fall-Winter catalog was $269.99. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $722 in 2020.

Early Sears 500s were re-badged Tokinas (review link) which came with a fixed mount offered in the major mounts of the time. Later, there was a re-badged Samyang 500.

A couple years ago, I actually found a cheap (Tokina) Sears 500 on ebay! But it was cheap for a reason...
Two reasons, actually.

First, it had a Minolta SR mount. And second, some of the interior glass was actually fractured! Still, I'm a sucker for unusual lenses - and especially when they're selling for bargain prices. And I was genuinely curious to see how the lens might perform in spite of the damage.

My lens came with matching hood and front cap. The hood is designed so it will thread on in the reversed position for storage. And the front cap fits onto the hood.
Curiously, the accessory thread diameter of the lens is about 75mm, rather than the common 77mm. A former custodian of this copy labeled the hood as being 77mm, but it isn't. And if you're thinking about buying a (Tokina) Sears 500, hope that the matching hood is included. Because finding a replacement might be difficult.

So I've had this lens for a couple years now, but it was only recently that I bought a Sony camera which made it practical for me to use Minolta mount lenses digitally. With its 1.5m minimum focus distance, it's actually useful as a close focus lens. Except my copy is really soft at MFD. I'd never used a Tokina mirror lens before I bought this one, but I'm sure the fractured glass must reduce sharpness and contrast. Even so, considering that this lens was sold as a basket case, I've been pleasantly surprised with some of the results I've seen.

Here's my lens and some recent sample shots:

What a luxury to have so many Sears lenses available to us! (In the U.S. and Canada, at least.)
They're more than "good" enough for my skill level, and frequently found at a fantastic value.

And thanks for the nudge, Aaron28. I'm too lazy to do much editing, but I should experiment with pano / stitching.
I even bought a pano tripod head a few years ago, but I've hardly used it.

Nice shot, Ken! I'm rarely able to get hummingbirds in focus.

Nice catch. It's fun to come across uncommon lenses. And it seems there are always more new / old lenses to be discovered out there. :)

Your 28 might be part of the Vivitar "bright band" family which are speculated to have been made by Kino (Kiron).

The differences between Contax-Yashica, Konica and Minolta mounts always trip me up. So I made a reference photo of the three. Each lens is oriented in the same direction - the "tops" (depth of field scales) are pointing down.

Pentax Forums T-shirts are currently 10% off.
Official Pentax Forums Shirts | Teespring

I just bought this shirt for a total of $19.54 shipped (in the U.S.). That's a better price than the advertised 10% off.

Just checking quickly though, it appears not all shirts have as much of a discount as the one I bought. But have a look around. All Pentax Forums shirts should be (at least) 10% off. :)

S-M-C Takumar 135mm f2.5 (6 elements) - radioactive or not?

Those are good questions, pentaxus. My Geiger counter was bought for academic curiosity and entertainment - rather than for health and wellness concerns. I can't vouch for its accuracy or my ability to use it correctly. That said, I did take some more measurements using my radioactive Super Takumar 50mm f/1.4.

Last year, measured at the bare rear element of the 50, I saw readings of 2152 CPM and 13.99 ÁSv/h.
Measured today:
At the bare, rear element, 2103 CPM and 13.65 ÁSv/h.
At the rear with lens cap on, 1202 CPM and 7.81 ÁSv/h.
At the focus ring, 373 CPM and 2.4 ÁSv/h.
With the 50 mounted on a Spotmatic body (no film ;)), at the eyepiece, 173 CPM and 1.1 ÁSv/h.
And ambient, background readings from my desk where I measured the 50mm, 15 CPM and 0.1 ÁSv/h.

My testing "methodology" is expedient rather than scientific. I take readings for several minutes and simply note the peak levels.
