Replacing the 18-135 WR?

The tamron is 105g heavier than the 18-135 so not a big deal for me.

Although the Sigma is 480g heavier so I can see your point on that particular lens!

I was using the 30mm siggy for equestrian photos last weekend and it worked quite well! Just want more range.

The Tamron 28-75 seems a cheaper option than the Sigma.

I was thinking it may be useful for sports, especially indoors as do some equestrian photography.

Still think I want a constant f2.8 lens, whether it be a Sigma or Tamron.

My friend has the 24-70 HSM and its a bit of a beast! Guess that's the trade off for HSM and f2.8.

K5IIs and Sigma 30mm focus issues

Camera is not back or front focussing in the centre from what I can see. I'm thinking it may be the nature of the lens as mentioned that the far left and right focus points send it in to meltdown!

Can anyone test theirs to see if it does the same?

Seems to be focussing ok in most occassions bar the far left and right points. I'm not sure how often I would be using them with this lens anyway! Apart from that the IQ seems very good. Maybe its just as you mentioned, the curved view and the fact the sigma is meant to be quite soft at the edges.

Not sure whether to try another copy or not. It might just be how this lens behaves TBH, I doubt many people have tried the left and right focus points with it!

Been using the Siggy for a week or so now and not really checked for any focus problems until today.

I took some shots using the far left and far right focus points. At f1.4 the camera confirmed focus but nothing was in focus at all. the whole pics came out as a blur. It got slightly better starting at f2.8, but not great.

Once you move in to the next left and right focus points in, the problem goes.

I tried out the 18-135 and this shows no such issues.

Is this common with primes or Sigma lenses?

Just a quick edit... if I use MF i can get what i want in focus on both the left and right focus points.

I tried fine tuning the AF to both -5 and -10 and +5 and +10 and it did not make a lot of difference if any.

Edit again... was using far left focus point and item in frame on front right was in focus! Think I have issues with this lens!!

The 17-70 is no quicker than the 18-135? Would not see that as an upgrade?

I'm just looking for a higher quality of lens. Trying to get some more jobs at events and maybe weddings and I don't think the 18-135 is good enough in that respect.

I may end up keeping it in my bag for any bad conditions a well us upgrading to a higher quality of lenses.

I have yet to use the 18-135 WR extensivly, but I think I want something faster.

Was considering the 24-70 f2.8 as do not go wide very often. I am also considering the 70-200 f2.8 at a later date.

Any other fast zooms I should look in to?

Well I did a quick test an came off easily enough!

Now got to decide if I want to go black rapid or optech. Slightly concerned as have read some reports that the black rapid clip can scratch the bottom of the camera. I guess that depends how you store it.

Yeah the triangle rings on the k5 - nothing on black rapid.

So finger nails is the answer! Not home for couple of days so just wanted some tips before I got back to see how easy it is.

Thinking of trying a Black Rapid but as I wouldnt be using the D-rings, I was wondering if they can be removed?

Last thing I want to do is damage or scratch anything!

What's the main difference between the super classic and pro strap? Is it just mainly the width of the pad?

Thanks guys. Think I will go for super classic as like the size and uni loop connectors. Might get the sling strap too.

Thanks for the advise - will certainly go pro or uni. Hopefully I can find a camera shop that stocks both at the weekend and have a look. Do the Uni loops add much bulk to the strap? Hoping to still fit it all in my case ok!

I tried some optech straps and decided that the super classic strap is perfect for my needs.

The question is.. which connector?

They do the standrad type bino connector, but the others look of more interest.

The pro strap looks like a good one - just wondered if it attaches ok to the D-rings ok?

Looked at the Uni-loop, but as far as I can see, its only a benifit if you intend to change the strap for a different type.

I emailed the seller, they replied with a message saying, and I quote 'we not brave to sell fake' 'any doubt we refund and return postage'

I was not convinced so returned them and got full refund.

That's good to know! I know it was a risk getting from eBay, but the feedback and positive comments made me think this was a genuine seller.

Pics below.

I have googled images of the filter and I cant find the Hoya logo looking like my ones on any of them.

I also cant find any that say 'Made in Japan'. They all seem to say just 'Japan'

Fake?
