RULES:

Contest ends at midnight on July 3, 2019.

Any forum member may invent and post a caption for the photo as a reply in this thread.

All readers of the thread, including those posting captions are encouraged to vote for any and all of the captions they appreciate by "Liking" them using the Forum's LIKE feature ('thumbs up" turns green when clicked). At the end of the contest period, the host will count the votes and report who won. In the case of a tie, the Host will break the tie, but will not otherwise submit a caption or vote.

The winner will be notified ASAP by the current host by PM and posting the winner in this thread. The new Host should post a link in this thread to the new contest thread.

Submissions should be via text (no video or audio files) - any caption, limerick, motivational poem or verse or prose is permitted - whatever inspires you to describe the photo or catch attention. Contestants may submit more than one entry but it must be in a separate post for voting purposes.

IMPORTANT:

Even if you do not submit an entry, please "like" any postings you feel deserve it as this is how the winner is chosen. If you DO SUBMIT an entry, please also find an entry that you like among your competitors efforts and "like" at least one of them as well. Enter often, vote more often, and most importantly, HAVE FUN !!! Remember, you can 'vote' for more than one entry if you choose to do so.

If the image is too big for you, edit your account "Settings and Options" for a smaller display size.

As I have 5 of the most recent bodies from the K-5ii (it's good to have a AA sensor in the stable) to the K-3, KP, et al., I notice a slight degree of improved sharpness with the K-1 in all genres, but only when using prime lenses. FF is so smooth and predictable with primes, that I use the 15mm Irix, 35mm Pentax, 50mm f1.4 with the K-1, Occasionally, I'll add the 70mm limited and keep it uncropped as well. My APS-c bodies seem to have excellent balance over the K-1 using short zoom lenses. That was a surprise; the best deal of it is, all the lenses are compatible with each other. Additionally, I just love the K-5ii's 16mp sensor, it's really like the g-spot for APS-c bodies--balance, low light capability, reasonable sharpness up to 11' x 14" prints.

Nailed it. I previously stated that as we reach the zenith of DSLR development, the manner of newer and better and improved camera bodies will be less and less. Instead, it will merely be replacing a similar product that has reached its pinnacle. Examples: roofing with fiberglass roof shingles, in 20 years, little improvement seen or needed; totilets: porcelain water vessels to flush waste; pretty much the same since Thomas Crapper perfected his in the 1870's; Bridges: bridge design has been in place for thousands of years, and the materials may change but the design is consistent; how about internal combustion engines: fairly well perfected over tthe past 100 years--there you have it, etc.

So it is with DSLRs: format will stay the same (APS-c, FF, Medium), pixels may increase, bodies may get somewhat smaller/lighter, but the camera's bones will remain the same. Hell, there may actually come a time, when camera phones are studio standard. RICOH knows this and, if your K-3 wears out, buy a KP or a K-1 (with the built in "K-5iii" crop). But unless you have a robotic camera, we are at the edge of the design--

Calculating Printing Costs

I use a Canon Pixma Pro-100 and the largest prints I make on it are 13x19 or A3 and it has 9 separate inkwells. I used to pay about $75 for Canon ink, but i recently found a lab in New jersey that charges $27.00 for their own inks and I have seen no denegration in the tint or quality of these photos. I also took the advice of a professional who sells bulk prints and i recently purchase Kirkland Hi-Gloss Pro Paper from Costco and, this pro was correct: About 12 cents per page (8x11) and the ink averages about 60 prints per $27.00 ink refills. I charge between $8 and $15 per print and have a nice little cottage industry going. Obviously for friends and family at this price I can easily afford to generous. Plus, looking at full prints versus computer images is always nice. The Pro 100 does very well with B/W & monochrome prints because it has 3 dedicated black/gray scale ink wells.
