Question is not what should it be. The camera must be under development right now, so the question is what will it be.

I think Pentax has a clear idea what they will show at some point and not care in detail about all forum wishes that actually ask them to make something similar to, as good as, ....
There will be some years of suffering (since Ricoh took control) and afterwards we will see what they have really been working on. Quite typical for a copany with limited resources that has to take a deep breath before a major development is presented.
With next yearīs annversary, the time of suffering may be over soon - this also implies that suffering is the hardest right now :-) There are a couple obvious paths to follow for Pentax. The real surprise will most likely be that they really worked on something interesting and are ready to deliver after announcement.

K3ii replacement

Ultimately, I think K3iii was only promised because we demanded it. From a business point of view 36MP K1 top end FF and 24MP KP APS-C with decent spec set is fine for Pentax brand. A high-end APS-C would not be designed for size or price, but for speed. It will be interesting what we will get - hopefully the lenses and AF engines will keep up.
Theta sells and was upgraded, GR sells and was upgraded, FF was developed and runs well I assume - lenses on the road map, APS-C has been demanded and it makes sense to present a speed camera - nice to have - but I am afraid how resources will be allocated between FF/APS-C/645 in the future.

Feel the need to use my Lee filters, but no-go on the D-FA 15-30...

The need for a 150mm filter system stopped me from buying in the 15-30. I have a bunch of 100mm filters and donīt want to invest in a 150mm System + carry it.
The DA*11-18 can use 100mm filters, as far as we know today and may cover APS-C+ area on K1. Pentax would do well with a decent wide angle lens/zoom that works with normal filter sizes.

What do you consider a decent new/used price for a 50mm lens with given specs?

The D-FA* 50 costs as much as it is wortt, it is not expensive. Same for the DA*50...

The big news about a hybrid viewfinder would be that Pentax is not going mirrorless. You either go hybrid or mirrorless with ILCs. Mirror has to be up all the time.
It would be nice to have better live view features like face tracking, ... in a DSLR. If the whole decive would also the standard AF, this would also be helpful.

K-3ii to D500... Is this the right move?

Go rent systems, play with them, try them out. Try the Olympus 300 Pro with the new EM1.ii. Try the D500 with 200-500. Play with the Pentax 150-450. Look at the new PF500 from Nikon. Check out what the new Fuji can do. There is so much news and excitement around in AF performance and new lenses, go for it. Pentax is pretty silent with new products or superlatives, but they perform well and products are offered at decent prices. OK, DA*200/300 are slow, DA560 ended up becoming very long - only the 150-450 appears to be a serious competitor.

Pentax may show something in the next couple months, but you also should check out what kind of lens you prefer and what is available - even in the used market and third party offerings. A Sigma 4.5/500 with ultarsonic AF is easy to find used for Canon and Nikon - not for Pentax, and only as screw drive.
A K3iii with competitive AF performance is only the first step into a long tele system. Some types of lenses are missing in Pentax land and the current camera lineup is not asking for long tele lenses.

Micro Four Thirds and Panasonic FF

During film days, you wanted a 35mm camera for regular work and medium format for studio. Today, FF sensors easily surpass medium format film cameras and M4/3 easily surpasses former 35mm film cameras. Panasonic may go M4/3 and FF at the same time - these systems complement each other. Pentax is currently stuck with APS-C/FF/medium formar - all with OVF and mirrors.
The M4/3 system is not just an amateur system. Many pros do their work with M4/3. Capatilize on the advantages and the system does well for you.

I did my lens calibration for the *50 before re-calibrating FA77. The 50 looks fine even on high contrast targets, the 77 shows purple fringing. In real live the 77 has very nice bokeh and the 50 produces very clean imagery. I don't typically photograph fences.

24-70 alternative lens for K1

You should make up your mind and figure out what you need and what you can afford. Do you need a zoom, do you need fixed focal length lenses...
Also figure out what you need before buying an expensive camera body. I used to do the same long time ago, put money on a nice camera..., tit makes much more sense to look at lenses beofre buying a camera. Not many ff options in Pentax land on the other hand. The 24-70 is nice, but FA35/50 may be a better start.

What chargers can you recommend? Watson Duo LCD charger?
Not all replacement batteries have the same Wh rating, so sometimes you have to expect 10-30% less performance based on that.

K1 to K1 Mark II or not II

K1ii feels faster, is more responsive and I assume firmware updates can make even more difference compared to original K1. AF tracking feels better and snappier. Can I meaure the advantage? No.

With the upgrade you get a complete camera check, sensor cleaning, ... For a top of the line camera, this upgrade should be a no brainer. I admit that first reports basically say, the upgrade is not needed, but overall I am happy, I did it - I may get a second K1ii at some point for back up and don't want to run around with K1 and K1ii as there will always be small firmware differences. This will be the best Pentax can offer within the next 2 years or so for FF besides more lenses.

ephotozine review of the DFA* 50 F1.4

The review is all true. A colleague of mine took a group photo at an exhibition of 50+ people with my *50 and he mishandeled the camera - ending up to take the group photo at f/1.6. You can see tack sharp faces from left to right. The lens is incredibly sharp even wide open. As for a people lens: bokeh is nice and smooth, but currently I would prefer the bokeh of the FA 77 - which falls behind in almost any other category.
Still need to compare *50 to FA77, but lens and K1ii had to go into intensive care after an accident.

How long will the delay be on, a) D-FA 85, D-FA wide angle, Ricoh GR III, what will be delayed afterwards... I hardly remember a planned release of something by Pentax in the serious camera/lens area.

Pentax cannot compete against Sony as long as they use Sony sensors. Nikon had to dump Sony to go mirrorless for instance. If it is for the good, go for it.

The very same discussion was held in the 1960s when SLR cameras started to outnumber rangefinder systems, aka mirrorless cameras in today's speak. SLRs won big time. AF mounts replaced classic mounts in the 80s and 90s. Change is happening. If you are happy with your current camera or want to keep it for many more years, do so. No manufacturer has funds to throw away and there is a market for the new camera systems. The majority of lenses will be much smaller than classic design and the camera do offer new features.
In 3-5 years time no manufacturer will release another SLR again. For more than 15 years the switch to mirrorless is obvious, now it is happening.

Nikon is just getting serious, Canon will follow soon with a more serious offer.
Where is Hasselblad going? Is the large z mount something for Pentax - large mount for 35 and 120 formats.
Btw Pentax is the only major player that stick to historic mount. Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Minolta... they all changed at some point. Nikon still has f mount, but for how long?

DFA*50 vs Sigma 35 Art?

Focus adjustment for Pentax works. For Sigma it did not work for me.
Feature wise Pentax is superior: AF, sealing, Pentax branding...
50 is not 35 both lenses are extremely sharp, but only Pentax allowed f/1.4 sharp focus for me.

It is more interesting what the review is lacking. No compains about slow AF, sharpness, bokeh was actually assessed positively...
Some poor DPR person had to work with a Pentax camera that he cannot comment on in a lens review and was presented with a really good lens. I even assume that Pentax made DPA buy the lens this time :-) Maybe the same person was denied the travel for the Nikon hands-on preview. Even worse the Pentax lens performed well. For a totally upset reviewer, the wording is still OK.

Pentax is not holding back for an anniversary, they are solving a lot of basic problems and shortcomings. The first new large aperture lens with new AF engine is out, new camera features should also be in the works.
