I can indeed.

Salut Pouyan -

I'll be conservative and say perhaps a very little bit of dust, tho' I can't see it.
No scratches, large or small.

Bottom line -- if I was remaining with the Pentax system, I'd not be parting with this lens.

Cheers,

- Richard

Photos of crack in 55-300 lens hood.

[Again, the lens itself is in excellent condition, both optically & mechanically.]

Edit - images removed, as they're too large and the lens is sold.

Greetings -

For sale, a Pentax K200D and a couple of lenses:

- image removed -

K200D w/ just over 7400 shots. (Here's the DPReview write-up.)

And the back, showing the photos taken (7405 - top right of screen).
http://www.oldwithoutmoney.com/images/K200D-back.jpg

Selling the K200D with 18-55 AL II lens (cap missing, but UV filter on since day 1), on camera in photo.
Condition of the both camera & 18-55 is excellent.

Pentax 55-300 lens with caps, soft case and Hoya 58mm UV filter -
The lens is in excellent condition, both optically & mechanically.
The lens hood has a fracture (photos tonight), which makes
the fit a bit loose, but it still works adequately.

Pentax A50 f1.4 with 'hardshell' case, caps & box - an awesome piece of legacy glass.

I'm the original owner of the all but the 50mm. I'd rate their condition at least a '9' on the B&H used scale.

Some images taken in the Galapagos can be found here.

K200D - how many images ??

Can anyone advise how I can tell how many images I've taken on my K200D?
I've skimmed / search the manual (.pdf) for terms that might tell me, & reviewed all of the menus I can find, but can't find the value.
Is it in there somewhere and, if so, where?
Thanks,
- Richard

WHY CANIKON and the Canikonitus disease

My first DSLR was the K200D, which I chose in '08 over the Nikon, Canon & Olympus offerings.
For its price, the features, IQ and affordable 55-300 served me very well in the Galapagos).

But when Pentax discontinued the 35mm f/2, they really angered this particular consumer.

I'm now looking to upgrade (for faster ISO), and it's precisely the lack of affordable fast glass
(f2 or less -- of any size, but mostly in the 16-35 range) that has me reconsidering Nikon
(my film SLR for ~25 years).

Do software packages exist which will scan directories (or CD-ROMs / DVDs),
create thumbnails, & index images (e.g. - including useful things like grabbing the EXIF information so that one can search for a photo within (e.g.) a specific date range?

Greetings -

I truly don't understand cores vs. speed (and, for that matter, the influence that cache can/does have).

Let's take two processors, a 65w X2 3.0GHz Regor 250 and a 45w X4 2.3GHz Propus 605e. And let's ignore the $100 price difference.

Is one likely to be faster than the other for photo processing?

Or is it entirely (or almost entirely) program dependent?

Insight most welcome.

Thanks.

K7 Forum.....

Not to put a damper on the K7 party, but ...

I can't ever see buying another Pentax, given that Hoya can't even see fit to maintain
a supply of middle-of-the-road single focal length lenses.
(I refer specifically, of course, to the late lamented 35mm F2).

Sorry, but I just don't have $500+ to spend on high-end 'Limited' lenses.

If anyone is interested in a slightly used K200D and a 55-300, I'm all ears.

Ummm ... yeah, FastStone is the bomb! Just what I was looking for.
(And noticeably faster than XnView on my not-so-spry 1.8 GHz Athlon 64 3000+ w/ 1GB RAM.)

Thanks.

Thanks much to you both.

Perhaps I should clarify what I mean by 'cheap' -- let's say $29.99 or less.
(LR is off by an order of magnitude. :( )

Greetings -

I'd like to be able to do just three things simply, quickly and painlessly (i.e. - free or cheap, ideally avoiding having to Read The Friendly Manual).

1. Load up a directory of Pentax (K200D) RAW files in thumbnails large enough so that I can quickly scan them for potential 'keepers' (typically 0-5 per 100 :o).

2. Tag the keepers.

3. Have the program copy (not move) the tagged photos to a specified directory.

This is on my Windoze XP box (tho' if there's a Linux program and/or distro that provides a solution, I'm certainly game).

Thanks kindly.

a fast enough CPU ??
Posted By expatCanuck
Replies: 45

Greetings -
I'm upgrading/building a PC for editing using Lightroom or something similar.
Capable enough to handle those big Pentax raw images quickly.
I'm not a gamer.
I'll also likely have to edit the .avi files that my boy shoots on his Canon SD790IS.

Suggestions welcome, as would be answers to the following questions:
  1. 2GB RAM enough, or should I go to 4GB?

  2. Will 2 separate hard drives (one for the OS, one for photos) make a noticeable difference?

  3. Is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e Brisbane 2.6GHz a fast enough CPU?
(I rather like the idea of only drawing 45w)

  4. Do I need a separate video card and, if so, how much RAM should it have?

The goal is to spend, intelligently, just enough -- but not overspend.

Thanks much.

Why did you choose the k200 over the competition (e.g., Canon XSI)??

I forgot that point my initial posting but, yeah, I was definitely no fan of the focus by wire. Didn't find the Olympus viewfinder particularly problematic, tho'. Too bad -- really did like the small size (I loved the 1970's Olympus OM-2).

And after forgetting my K200D out in the rain for a bit this past weekend (mea culpa - I had driven for about 12 hours, and was exhausted), I was very happy that I had the weather sealing.

(Happily, SLR still works fine.)

archival medium ??

Greetings.

Was wondering what, if any, cost-effective archival media exist for digital photo storage.

Anyone know of studies re: reliability stats of CD-ROMs? RW DVDs? ... ?

I know that tape certainly starts to degrade relatively quickly (within a year or three) and should only be considered a short-term backup solution.

Knowledge welcome.

Thanks.

All I know is that I avoid Lightroom 'cause I lose EXIF data when I edit my shots and save as .jpg. Mickeysoft Orifice's Pitcher Mangler is good enough for non-critical tasks -- and it leaves the damned EXIF data in place.

I wonder whether Adobe fixed the problem. But I'm not counting on it.
