Pentax K-S1!

Apparently, no weather sealing and one control dial.

I would say this is a K-500 replacement.

It is a bit sad that since the K30 (launched in 2012-07) there has not been a notable upgrade to the mid-level camera yet.

That's IF they do not plan to launch a second camera soon (unlikely imo)
That's IF you consider the 16MP sensor K-30/K-50 good enough for you... if not then the K-S1 could be of value for you...

As I did participate to this contest with a picture, I decided not to vote.

But this one was one of my favorite! Congrats!

I am wondering, if you wouldn't have pushed PP some much how would have been the result. Anyway, good work, IMO ;-)

We woke up at 3am to climb the mountain facing Mt. Bromo and Mt. Semeru, two active vulcanos in east Java, Indonesia.
The air was thin, and clear despite the clouds in the background. Bromo was smoking and the sunrise exposed all its tired wrinkles.

Disappointed by Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Being colorblind, I would be more than happy to stay away from WB corrections ;-)

As the lens was delivered in Feb I don't think I can replace it, but I'll ask...

Disappointed by Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

Hello all,

I would like to share my experience with the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and possibly getting some feedback from other owners to understand if they are experiencing the same.

Premise
I was a happy owner of a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8: pretty decent building quality, sharp wide open, good color rendition. Happy customer.
But I wanted something slightly wider, so I sold the 28-75mm to get the 17-50mm. Very reasonable price and good specs. If it would have been similar to the 28-75mm I would have been a very happy customer!

Observations and problem with my lens
- Sharpness is almost as the 28-75mm. Satisfied!
- The building quality is very "plasticy". Worse than the 28-75mm. I can live with that...
- It suffers heavily of front focus. The AF adjustment of the K30 even if it is set to the extreme, it does not counter balance enough the FF. I will probably send it in to have it calibrated. Annoying but at least it should be fixable...
- Color rendition is way worse than the 28-75mm. It shows heavy blueish cast. Whenever I am outdoor and I am in AWB, this lens always shows a blueish cast. This is what disappoint me the most as I don't think it can be "fixable" Disappointed!

Do you guys experience the same?

Very nice!

I think this is one of the few cases in which I would have liked to see a bit of step down to have full focus also on the hand. Otherwise it is just a disturbing element in the foreground that does not add much. (just my personal view!)

Other than that excellent! The texture is quite rich and I think the framing is just perfect!

This is a very good price for the 50-135 if it is in good working and cosmetic conditions! Most of all if you consider that in Europe is much tougher to find such good prices...

Thanks for the tips! Do you find it the AF fast enough for shooting at kids? I have the feeling that the screw driver lenses are faster (generally... not always ;-)

Lenses for Venice

My suggestion (I am Italian and Ihave been in Venice quite a few times):

Go for the extreme: 8-16mm and 50-135mm (the first for landscapes and street views, the second for portraits and close up for architectural details).

Regarding light, yes it might be a problem, but the K-30 with high ISO should do the job. The last time I was there I had a 18-250mm and I took a boat of a friend and did a tour of the Laguna during night time. Not all shots were good but the some of them came out definitely nice even during night time (despite the lens being slow).

Edit: I forgot to add.... I am zoom guy, so I was biased towards zoom. But if you want primes I would use the same criteria: go for the extremes

This is one of the shot I took:

* I would love to improve my street photography, but I wouldn't see myself using the 60-250mm for it... just too... noticeable ;-)

Thanks for the advices! Sorry for the newbie question... what is MLU?

Thanks! Actually what I like particularly is the picture of the gondola. It fell just a tad short to make it to the Exclusive Gallery ;-)

Anyone else willing to share his experience and show me his/her best take with telezooms?

Hello all -

I am here to try to extend a bit some of my knowledge in photography and trying to learn from someone else's experiences.

Background
* I do mainly landscape, city photography, I would love to get better at street photography. Below you find a couple of examples
* I do not shoot animals and wildlife, and I am not planning to move in that direction.... it might happen seldomly but it is not really my goal / cup of tea...
* I would love to improve my street photography, but I wouldn't see myself using the 60-250mm for it... just too... noticeable ;-)
* In the past I have used a lot the 18-250mm. When I was using the 18-250mm, I mainly (85%) used the range between 18-70mm, 5% 70-200mm and 10% 200-250mm.

Goals
* Now I am moving towards a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 + Pentax 60-250mm kit.
* I would love to learn better the 60-250mm. I see it as potentially outstanding.
* I would love to learn: techniques but most of all subjects.

Questions
* What do you shoot with your telezoom lenses?
* What are your favorite subjects?
* How did you get the best out of your telezoom?

This is a sample of what I shoot... but I am open to new suggestions!
