Going to a baseball game...

Good pictures. One little suggestion, I think I would have traded a bit of aperture for shutter speed. There's a lot of motion blur, you can see it in the last photo of the catcher blocking the ball. You probably could have gone f/7.1 or something like that and increased shutter speed to freeze the action a little more. It looks like there was pretty good light.

Although I've never shot with a teleconverter so maybe that changes the thought process a little.

Here's a few from a different level of baseball. But this highlights one of the challenges of baseball at times, if you don't have great lighting and you're using a non-pro setup it can be a challenge. These were taken with the K-3II and the 55-300, in the fading light around 7 or 7:30pm. I think the level of noise in these ISO 5000+ shots is not bad at all, but if you're concerned you can fall back on baseball's history and nostalgia and turn everything black and white.

Thanks, best of luck. I've had more success shooting MLB games than my own kids' soccer. Baseball games have lots of opportunities, don't forget the crowd, the stadium, umpires, coaches and other things not necessarily involved in the action.

I've done that, too, with some success. One possible challenge is minor league lighting for night games might not be as good as a major league game.

I went to the O's-White Sox game last night and brought the camera in the car, but it was drizzly and damp and in the 50s and left it right there in the trunk. Just had fun with the wife and kids. Next time...

If you're not driving or it would be difficult to get back to your car I'd certainly err on the side of caution. I'm going to an O's game this weekend and will probably bring the camera, but I will be driving.

Maybe I've been lucky with stadiums/cameras but I've gone to DC United at RFK, Orioles at Camden Yards, Rogers Center in Toronto, and recently an indoor soccer game at the Royal Farms arena in Baltimore and have received only the lightest scrutiny about the camera. I've brought the 55-300 to United and the Orioles and Toronto with no issues whatsoever. I looked for camera policy prior to the Blast indoor game and they seemed kind of vague and possibly quite restrictive, so I only brought the tiny 40XS. But at the gate I'm not sure they even noticed I had a camera. I could have stuffed three lenses in various pockets and my wife's purse and nobody would have cared at all.

I've heard some horror stories here, but I've been to 10+ professional games with zero issues.

I've gone to a fair number of Orioles games at Camden Yards with some combination of K-30, K-3II, older 55-300, and even the 35mm plastic fantastic and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye. All of them did very reasonably, and I got a fair number of keepers. I certainly wouldn't go buy or rent new gear, go with what you have. FF and the 200mm won't be a ton of reach, but you might just change your subjects.
