I think if i was ever to try this style of photography it would have to be a long zoom ....like a 300mm :D

Would love to try it because i like nothing better than to just sit and watch people meander by ,it really intrigues me i find it so fascinating all the different faces wondering where their going what they do for a living are they rich poor happy sad .

In my humble OP the 18-55 kit can produce some fantastic results ,admittedly one has to to be relatively close to the action .Regarding hi continuous mode, tends to make you lazy and your keep ratio will fall off ,also if it's bright sunny conditions pop on a CPL it'll make the colours of the bike and rider pop and the clouds and blue sky (all adds to the shot).

As for shutter speeds ,i've had results as low as 1/8 ,try and keep in the f5.6 &f8,f10 ,try panning the bikes make sure your parallel and take a wee step back ,i don't like to use too high shutter speed simply because it make the riders look as if they're frozen to the spot .

Hope this helps ... best tip of all ...PRACTICE !!!!!!

I'll shoot over 2,000 shots on any given meeting

Examples taken with 18-55 kit lens (i believe this was the K100D body)

Salmon fishing is expensive depending on time of year ,trout fishing ,for the quality of fish to be had is relatively inexpensive .

Well..... there's so many fantastic fishing spots totally spoilt for choice ,Salmon ,sea trout, brown trout, artic char. Some involved long walks and some not so long ..... the surroundings are just sublime:)

Badanloch Estates

Brian Lyall is the head gamekeeper and i life long friend and a fantastic fly fisherman ,sharp shot also

Oh .... my best trout is 31/2 pound ,it was caught in a wee lochan ,the old head gamekeeper kept telling me there was no trout in it . Guess i proved him wrong lol

Haven't shot motocross for a while now ,but in my experience ..shutter speeds of 250 and upwards are a good starting point, center focus point and i tend to use spot metering but not all the time , as you get more used to the bikes movements you can second guess whats going to happen.

Most of these were taken with Pentax K100D + 18-55 kit lens and a couple with sigma 70-300 APO,i also used a CPL

Best bit of advice ...just keep trying
