Greetings and welcome. Good questions and a confusing topic. Using Cmohr's excellent picture as the basis, hopefully this composite helps. Even did some math to scale the "printed" images - zoiks!

Seamus caught a Leprechaun in the woods along a field in County Cork one evening. The Leprechaun promised Seamus two wishes to let him go. Seamus thought a bit and stated that he wanted a pint of Guinness– the perfect pint - fresh from the tap, just the right temperature and would refill to the rim as he drank and would never run out. POOF – a pint appeared and Seamus tasted it. Perfect. He sipped, he drank, he quaffed and the pint refilled every time. He kept drinking as the Leprechaun asked him what his second wish was to be. The Leprechaun grew more impatient as Seamus drank and thought. Finally, Seamus decided what he wanted for his second wish. “I think I’ll have another.”

Changing out some lenses and have to make room in the gear bag. Accept paypal and will only charge actual shipping cost by USPS in 50 states. Will consider other destinations by inquiry and after a check of costs/customs. Will give full price when you PM, and have zip for me and how fast you want it,before finalizing the deal.

SOLD Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro 1:1 172E Pentax K in excellent condition - $170 $160 $150 plus shipping (price drop on October 1)

review here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/tamron-sp-af-90mm-f28-macro-11-model-172e.html

Has autofocus limiter switch to keep lens from hunting over the whole focus range when lighting/contrast is low and camera is looking for the right focus. Focus barrel allows switching on the fly from auto to manual - pull barrel back to disengage auto and focus away. Push forward and auto is back on.

Original box, soft case, manual and papers, lens hood, front and rear caps. Added a 55mm UV filter.

Lens glass is very clean and clear with no issues. Aperture blades are clean and smooth. Focus barrel is smooth and does not creep. Body has small scratch/thin crack in plastic cover over part of the distance scale (can see on left side of window) but seems stable and does not affect function.

On my camera I used/needed focus adjustment to get autofocus sharp. Worked great and switched to manual for macro work. Two flower pics are same composition and focus point from tripod shot, first at f2.8 to show how shallow DOF is at that range and second at f16 to show increased DOF. Lots of creative potential for macro and portrait work with this setup!

WITHDRAWN - Sigma 28-80 f3.5-5.6 Aspherical Macro zoom Pentak K mount in very good or better condition - $20 $15 plus shipping - Since it is super cheap and has a manual aperture ring, will try on my Canon T5i (with adapter) for stop motion projects (fixed aperture vs electronic is supposed to help with "flickering" caused by very slight exposure differences caused by the aperture not stopping down to a mechanical stop). We shall see...

Details on this lens vary a little from the two versions I found on PF site but seems pretty much like this one: https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/sigma-28-80mm-f3-5-5-6-macro.html

Sigma 28-80 f3.5-5.6 zoom with macro up to 1:2 (half lifesize) at the 80mm setting. Glass is clear and clean. May have small dust specs inside but do not show on photos. Body shows light use and looks clean overall with no marks or damage. More "faded" from deep black finish than actually worn. Zoom and focus rings work smoothly.

Aperture ring with "A" setting for automatic camera bodies and can rotate from 3.5 to 22 on manual cameras or if going all-manual on a DSLR.

Macro switch can engage at 80mm setting and allows focus under .4 meters. Make sure focus is at least at .4meters to take out of macro mode.

Has 55mm UV filter and collapsing rubber lens hood. Hood showing some slight cracking at folds but still works fine and is easily sourced when needed.

Used as my walk-around lens on K-50and also took lots of shots for a food book - worked great for interior, exterior, portrait and macro work. Have faster (and unfortunately, much more $$$) lenses covering the range/function now.

Picture of flowers is at macro setting and f5.6 (fastest aperture available for 80mm) to show focus and DOF atthat range.

SOLD - Cactus V6 transceiver in excellent or better condition - $40 $35 plus shipping - SOLD

https://www.cactus-image.com/v6.html

Purchased recently from Adorama used store as trigger only - no box, footie thingy or paperwork (can find manual on Cactus site). Looks like new and worked perfectly when I set up and tested flashes for recent project. Has four groups and multiple channel variations. Allows all kinds of remote control and options. But, I cannot mix with my V6ii triggers and use the TTL firmware version on my V6ii triggers - they talk to each other on a different firmware version. Does not support HSS natively so am selling to get another V6ii trigger to keep my hardware variations to a minimum. Works with V6 and older triggers for standard sync.

Are the K-3 ii days counted?

Lots of good advice already and nobody asked for mine, so here it is: What does your friend want to use it for and how often? Snapshots with a walk-around lens for viewing on computer screen lead to one decision. Taking up event photography as a paid gig using big and/or fast glass gives another. So, having had that discussion and the answer being that they want a K-3 or equivalent sensor and to use the universe of manual and auto glass available for K mount (why, yes, that IS a good choice!); buy a camera and use it.

There is always something "better" on the horizon and even when that comes out, the horizon stretches on with promise of "better" yet to come. So jump in and use what works best to meet the need now. I bought a K-50 3 years ago and really liked it - the options, ergonomics etc. Used kit glass and a cheap Sigma 28-80 w/ macro. Lots of snapshots and took 2000 pics of farmers, restaurants, food and such for the wife's book on farm-to-table. Loved, loved, loved it. Then did a wedding and had to up my gear and game. Borrowed a K-3 and bought some new (to me at least) lenses (dreamy stuff that worked REALLY well). Using both cameras side-by-side was fun and here is my take-away:

24MP sensor gives more room to crop.

The K-3 has all the menu and button options of K-50 with MORE. It does go to 11.

Dual memory card slots on K-3 gives instant backup for safety. Or can be sequential, different formats, etc. I am testing a FLU card with JPG setting in one slot to shoot "tethered" with a big card in primary to capture RAW. But - options!!!

Good viewfinders on a DSLR are the reason I went that route vs mirrorless because I can't see the LCD in bright sun or while wearing sunglasses. Sometimes hard to see what is going on with all the settings in the viewfinder though. Top screen on K-3 (K-5 and others - ???) is visible even in bright light and gives key info for adjusting. Can use a Hoodman Loupe on LCD to help setup or chimp/review shots but I still rely on viewfinder for shooting and can't keep the Hoodman attached all the time.

Better ISO range and performance for pushing the limits when that is what has to be done.

Faster shutter speed - would not have thought that would be important but when shooting in bright sun with HSS, ISO 100 and f1.4, the only place to go is faster shutter to control ambient light. Other ways to deal with that but since I am listing rationalizations reasons...

Bottom line for me was boxing up my beloved K-50 and sending it off to someone who is hopefully happy to have that as their upgrade camera. Bought a gently used K-3ii to go with my new glass and am happy with my upgrade camera. Still getting the feel for the different button/dial/menu layout but like the shots I have so far. And GPS (tracking/tagging - meh, but it is an option), astrotracer (YES, thank you!), improved stabilization, and, did I mention it goes to 11?!?

It may be discontinued (recently) and there may be something "better" coming soon, but I will bet you the feature mix is always a little different from "ideal" and involves trade-offs. I will take the known set included in the K-3 line and enjoy my new glass as I push my skills and creativity through practice and learning from others.

There is always a market for good used gear and I suggest it is better to invest in glass and the body that supports it while keeping an eye on the horizon. Can always sell the body - heck, if it is a K-3 or K-3ii in good shape, I might be interested...

All the best with the process for your friend and I hope they enjoy their new (soon) gear.

Cheers.

What did Tarzan say when he saw the elephants coming over the hill.

"Here come the elephants over the hill."

What did Tarzan say when he saw the elephants coming over the hill, wearing sunglasses.

Nothing, he didn't recognize them.

How do you hide an elephant in a cherry tree?

Paint their toenails red.

How did Farmer Brown get hurt?

Picking cherries.

But only if there is a long strip of plastic-y stuff jammed inside that the pictures are kept on. You can view them after making magic motions in an unlit room and sloshing a bunch of smelly chemicals about for a precise amount of time. Someday...

Could be the lack of go-juice talking in the early am, but the detailed blog posting is about video and audio - Adobe Video and Audio Apps: Upcoming Changes to OS Support | Adobe Blog

OP link kinda fuzzy about requirements for LR and PS and Ai. Perhaps the next major CC upgrade is more about PP? LR CC already requires 10 - I have to use "Classic" on my stone-age setup (3 years).

But, faced with upgrading my OS from Win7 64 to 10 vs learning a new interface, tools, quirks and such - I will buy 10. It is the inevitable transition.

I liked XP 32 bit on an AMD 2 core w/ 3.x G ram, running CS3 with a 256M video card. But would not trade the performance of my current i7 6 core w/ 64 G of ram, SSD drives and 4 G video card. If I have to migrate OS to keep the hardware running the software I want, it is the move I will make. I fought it with my XP setup - got 12 years out of it (still a backup system, albeit a SLOW backup) and moved to Win 7 32 to extend its service life but should have transitioned to new hardware and OS years earlier. I am very good at hanging on too long and hope to have learned my lesson on keeping up this time around. Anyone need a Win98SE install disk (still in package with seal)... Or a Win95 laptop?
