Pentax-A 50mm on K-70 - "Input Focal Length"

To be absolutely clear.....the point of entering a FL when the camera asks for it is for the SR system. This relies on knowing the FL and thereby the magnification of the lens. The camera does not need to "sort things out". It knows the magnification of a 50mm lens and it moves the sensor accordingly if it detects SR is necessary. It matters not if the lens is a aps-c designed 50mm or an older film (35mm-full frame) lens....50mm is 50mm

NextBase are a popular make. I am on my second one. They work as advertised.

To be clear these are used for evidence if you have an accident.

+1 for DS Labs. I use them for large digital prints not d+p, and find their quality to be excellent, especially the Fine Art paper

Lightroom Super Resolution

For anyone who uses a digital camera with a Bayer Filter Array (ie the vast majority of us), the colour data in our pixels is created synthetically already. As each pixel can only record one colour (red or blue or green), a demosaicing algorithm estimates the amount of the other two colours to give us our colour digital image.

I see the advances in up-sampling (of which super-resolution is the latest) to be a natural progression. No more or less "true" to the original shot than the image our digital camera has "created" for us in the first place.

How many megapixels do you need (rant)?

Upsampling an image by adding more pixels is not new, It has been around for years. What has changed during this time is the the ability to tweak the algorithms to improve the result.

"AI learning", whether you like the phrase or not, is the latest "tweak". It is not just Adobe who are using this technology,

It works extremely well. You are suggesting it does not, without any knowledge of it, and without any intention to find out. That attitude helps no-one.

Ultimately it depends on whether you print or not.

When I capture a raw image with my K-1 , when preparing the picture for screen/web viewing I downsize it to 2158x1440 pixels. Reason being that my monitor is 1440 pixels tall, so I can view the image at 100% view without my graphics processor having to downsize it and perhaps introduce softness. That size is a reasonable compromise for most viewers depending on their screen resolution. So my web published images are 3.1 MP

Now if I want to print an image, my printer requires 300ppi so for a 24"x16" print I need a 7200x 4800 pixel image, ie a 34.56 MP image.

It is simple maths folks

But by doing so you are restricting the flexibility of things like DOF and perspective (background separation).

I disagree. The larger you print, the more MP are needed to attain the same image quality when viewing that print from the same distance.

BTW DPI and PPI are completely irrelevant when viewing on a screen. They cannot affect the image in the least.

Is a Pentax-M 100 f/2.8 lens better optically than a SMC Takumar 105mm?

Give it a try-out. Individual lenses can still have sample variation, or develop problems over the years.

I still have my old M 28mm 2.8. It sold in large numbers and is an extremely capable lens. The M 28mm 3.5 and K 28mm 3.5 are better regarded lenses however, and the K 28mm f2.0 "Hollywood" lens is in a league all of its own :)

I agree completely that poor focus was not recognised to the same degree as today. But having used plenty of split prism screens in the past, in my opinion they have nothing on LV zoom

The same was true for photographers with film in their cameras 30 years ago. You should use LV and the zoom function for perfect manual focus.

Then do not use old manual focus lenses. The lenses were designed long before the current cameras.

What is the second thing that annoys you ?

To answer your complaint you are wrong in your assumption that you MUST use the green button. In addition to that method you can use the DOF preview lever to activate the meter, or you can do what I tend to do and use a light meter.

The K3 III has even introduced a fourth method.....automatic stop down metering.

You are lucky that you can use 40 year old lenses with your modern dslr. Most other brands do not allow it at all

Any Pentax aps-c sensor camera will be the same as the K70. In fact any aps-c camera of any make will be close enough

Put it in a sealed plastic bag, and wait 30 minutes for it to warm up.
