If you used the lens hood you will find that it cropped the extra surface of the full frame quite nicely. Without the hood, the lens works very well for 21x21mm square crops or even a bit more depending on the f-stop. The full frame is not usable in my book.

It's possible that the mirror needs to be adjusted in your film camera (that's how focusing was calibrated in pre-AF days). It sure needed adjustment in the MX I used to shoot long ago.

Did anyone say it has to be digital?
Z-1p with FA* 200mm f/2.8 on Kodak Elite 100 silde film, taken in 2005 (my daughter is now 16...).

Digital comes in for digitization: K-1 with Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon-Zirconia 89mm f/2.8 1:1 (industrial line scan lens).

A little OT: I believe that the "generic" dirt cheap options you refer to are knock-offs of the Laowa lens but not the same product, see here:

It is exactly 35 years today that I took these photos in the High Atlas mountains in Morocco while doing ethnographic fieldwork for my PhD thesis. Pentax MX, Ilford HP5 film developed in ID-11 1+3. (I may have posted the second image before.)

Staying off topic: if you drop them you're probably better off if there is plastic involved. My 18-year old son picked up my old 645 for his new interest in analog shooting. One day it fell out of his back pack and dropped on concrete ground with the FA 150mm f/2.8 ED attached (quite a heavy package). It hit the ground with the grip next to the shutter release button first and then the lens hood. After that it would no longer fire. Since we had nothing to lose, we took the whole grip apart and found there was a strong stainless steel plate inside below the shutter release button holding all the tiny contacts and electronics that was totally bent while the plastic housing had gone back to its original shape. We bent it back to its approximate original shape using brute force and then made sure that the contacts all did what they were supposed to do. Now it works again. The lens hood, the second point of impact, came away cracked but is still usable. The short version: all that is metal in the grip was deformed, including its fastening plate. The plastic (admittedly quite strong) took the blow without failing. Still it's not recommended to repeat the exercise.

Thank you! Great shot you got there. I've been shooting Perseids for several years, mostly with more success than this year, and indeed the meteors always go from green to red. And I must say the Samyang 16mm is really a great lens for things like these. I've had the opportunity to use the 20mm f/1.8 on a K-1 recently and it is fine too but not on the same level as the 16mm.

Thanks again for taking your time to look!

I used to wet print a lot in earlier days, though not in very big formats. These days, alas, it is mostly on screen.

I was referring to the 645 system, so this remains speculation. But I wouldnt be surprised if it turned out that way.

For the 645 system, is there any evidence that they are not exactly doing this? If so, I must have missed it.

Since we are already in speculation mode, how about this: they wanted to streamline their manufacturing and get the new electronic diaphragm going. Now that apparently both is accomplished, they are ready to update the whole system with a new body and a new line of lenses on the same level as the D FA* 50mm (and with appropriate pricing of course).
