I got the pentax wireless one at London Drugs, it was cheap, it's small, and you can put it in the grip if you have one!

Are you a back button focusser with a grip?

I'm with you, this seems like they could add an option to change the behavior of the green button to AF in the custom options via a firmware patch.

it really does limit the usefulness of the grip without being able to use AF, and i don't like half-press at all.

I use Gentoo, and dualboot to windows for Lightroom :(

I've not found anything close to Lightroom in Linux, one day I'll replace my PC with an Mac and get the best of both worlds.

LightZone looks like a nice piece of software (for windows, mac, and linux) , but doesn't have much in the way of organization - if you are ok with using something else (fspot is decent) for that, you might want to look into LightZone

Battery life K20d?

I've had my K20d for quite some time now and the display showing battery life hasn't moved at all - I have the grip with a second battery, but even the primary still shows 100%...

How long can I expect the batteries to last, and how do you check how many shots have been taken?

I'm assuming my camera has fired off 889 shots, because that's the filename I'm up to.. but is there a way to check in camera?

Just a followup, Pentax Canada got back to me pretty quickly, but by the time they did I had done a bunch of tests, tried everything I could... I can't get it to happen again. Even when setting conditions intentionally to try to make it happen, It simply won't occur!

I can only assume it was caused by interference from something, or something else.. Who knows!

I'm just glad it's gone :)

To all concerned with K20D/Hot Pixel Issue

I also have a K20d with no hot pixels (as far as I know). Maybe I will play around with weird edge-case tests to try to expose them if i have some time. Just curious though, what would dpreview have to gain by lying about it? My guess is that they have found something that may not be evidient in regular shooting, which would make sense for them to really be "pixel peeping" - they ARE trying to write a technical review.

Also, I'm not the biggest fan of RiceHigh, the way he goes about saying things can be pretty hard to take, but i don't think he should be banned. He generally is talking about real issues, even if he likes to sensationalize them (Maybe he can apply for a job at Fox News?). I don't think what he does is any better or worse than the hordes of people denying that the issues he talks about exist at all. If we aren't going to have a middle ground, maybe the best we an do is two polarized sides to the "discussions" :)

I do agree though, that it's pretty strange how dedicated he is to seeking out any and all Pentax-related issues, and blowing them up to epic proportions, even when they are minor and/or very uncommon. Very strange dude. Must take a lot of energy! He must not get a lot of actual shooting done :(

Anyway, I'm very happy with my K20 and lenses, so I'm going to go take some pictures!

K20 Vpn? :(

i didn't "test" the Fuji but i owned it for a year and shot in similar conditions - i wasnt really testing the K20 either, it was just a quick snapshot while unboxing the camera

i didn't expect perfect results, i expected it to be noisy, I just didn't expect to see a pattern of vertical noise - this is new to me, other than the Fuji (which didnt exihbit patterns of noise like that, maybe just cause it was their honeycomb ccd?) my only cameras have been film, so i'm still newish to this whole thing

No need to be defensive, i'm not trolling or upset or anything- I'm just curious if this is expected/normal behaviour for high iso noise. So far I'm very happy with the k20d (And 35mm limited)!

K20 Vpn? :(

yeah, well it was pretty obvious - ie, unprintable, unmodified...

It was a test shot - one of the "Yay new camera, click-click-click" shots - high iso in a badly lit kitchen though - i've never seen anything like this in my previous (and only other) DSLR, the Fuji S5

I will definitly shoot more real shots and see if it still occurs before worrying about it, but figured I'd see if anyone else was seeing anything like this at 1600 with the k20

Is this the dreaded "VPN", on my new K20d?

If so... is there anything I can do about it - ie. get pentax to fix it, or..?

this was 1600iso and converted to B&W / levels changed to make it more obvious, but it was noticable in the raw image

Hey, just got my K20d - love it so far, but am trying to figure something out...

I have it set so i can change the ISO with the wheel in Av and Tv modes, since the only other way i could find to change ISO is via function menu..

but now i can't see how many shots remain, I checked the "info" screen ... is there some way to see this information without removing the ISO from the wheel?
