The past few days have really been hit and miss with me. Work has taken it's toll lately. I'm still in, but not commenting nearly as much as I'd like to.

At that price I would have already been there checking it out. I paid a good bit more than that for mine used, but it was worth it, an amazing lens.

Yes, User Mode. I have 3, the first 2 are identical save the metering, the 3rd is for my old manual lenses.

But I guess that’s really a turn of the dial.

I would say get a KP. A much better option than the Q or K01 and a smaller footprint than the K-1.

I wouldn’t hesitate to remove all the hardware and grip from the K-1 either. The last wedding I did without the grip on the K-1 partly because I was also carrying a K3 with grip. Battery life was no concern and the high ISO capabilities of the K-1 are nothing short of amazing.

Exactly. But when set to matrix, I didn’t mention it will expose slightly toward the focus point, but not like spot.

It’s a method of being able to quickly change the exposure on the fly. I have less work after the event working post because the exposure values are where I’m expecting them to be.

An all in one would probably do you just fine. I have one for general printing so I’m not using my large format printer for everything. I have the Epson Workforce Pro WF-4630 around $225. It’s only 3 color plus black but does good prints up to 8X10. I had an HP 6 color all in one but it died last year.

So... I have this feture turned on. I generally use Matrix, but with the press of a button I’m on spot metering. Which is where this really works nicely.

For instance: I’m shooting a wedding and the camera is on matrix but I want to catch the bride off center of the image. She doesn’t care what the rest of the scene is, as long as she is in focus and properly exposed. Switch to spot metering and focus on her, she will be properly exposed regardless of where she is in the shot.

It does take some serious practice to make it work, but once you have it down you can have some great control on the fly.

It looks like you have a good copy, very similar to my K300 f/4. A bit low in contrast which is easily remedied in post (I use rawtherapee now) but very sharp from 5.6 and up. Mine fringes quite severely when I have a bright sky for background, but that’s to be expected for the age.

Enjoy the lens, looks like it was a great find!

The things of my nightmares!

From an old mechanics standpoint, I would be hesitant to put too much pressure on the filter for obvious reasons. But when we had a stuck thread, one of the methods was to use a safe pressure and go back and forth between tightening and loosening. This will usually work the stuck part of the thread enough to break it free.

Good luck!

Sticky: Stop-down metering, why it is a problem, and how to make it work

Great write up Steve.

When I put a “bright” split focus screen on my K20, I had all kinds of issues with metrering on old lenses. My very old light meter was put back in service then.

I haven’t done any real testing, but I’m noticing some of the same inaccuracies with green button metering in AV with my K-1. I do a lot of shooting in M mode. Hopefully I’ll get a bit of time to fully test out what it’s doing.

Safe to use 3.6V CR2 Batteries for MZ-M?

My MZ-7 battery grip takes 4 AA batteries which is also 6V. The CR2 batteries I have are 3V each. I would say if you went up to 7.2 V you’ll likely kill the camera.

Good film bodies have gone up in price the past few years, and I would venture to guess part of that is we have more people shooting film the past few years, not much in the way of New film bodies, and a lot of camera repair men are retiring (the local one I use has been in business since 1976 and is semi-retired now).

More Limited lenses

While the 17-70 is a good lens (I’ve had mine for years and done many jobs with it) it is nowhere near a “Limited” lens. He referred to DC motor and zoom, which only leaves the 20-40 (which is also WR).

At this point I think we’d all like to see a few new FF lenses, whether they are Limiteds, DFA* or simply DFA. I prefer smaller, but that doesn’t suit every lens or everyone.

Sounds like what you are looking for is something like the DA 21, or if you want wider than the 18mm, look at the DA 15.

I really like how the color came out and the focus was spot on. I agree with Helen in that your best shots were focused on a subject, the dog or even the pillars to the door. Great set overall.

I've been playing with the high ISO capabilities of the K-1. This was hand held (I was braced against my car), ISO 3200 post process in rawtherapee. The A24-50 shows a bit of flare from the moon, but a nice starburst for being wide open f/4.
