I do...

My name is Chris, and it has been 4 weeks since my last confession..... I mean Lens purchase..

I also have a Wine buying addiction, but that is only to feed my need for drinking Wine, and is maybe also a factor in late night Lens "Buy Now" clicks...

It's really strange behavior from such a noted Photographer. It wasn't like, this was her "big break" , as,she is already quite a renowned Photographer and Digital Artist, Highly regarded in the industry. This ran into breaking the rules. All images must be taken yourself. regardless of any manipulation. And when the photographer whose work it was challenged the picture, she actually attacked him with treats . That's Not good.

The ideas and rules in the competition are clear and simple. The cascade effect on the whole thing, is massive. Her entire portfolio , has been disqualified, she should not have been in the running, Someone else , should have had the recognition, the prize money , endorsements ect. Others who were eliminated , should have been in the running, She has had the benefit of the title , and won work from it along the way, others, who may have profited by it, never got the chance.

This isn't a little bit of "Fair Use" there is no Fair use in this case. It's quite strange that she did it. I mean, she knew the rules, and she knew here work, some, may say, it was a simple oversight, that she had the image in her portfolio, but, again, an artist knows their work, so when curating her portfolio for entry, surely would have known the image was outside the contest rules. I don't know?

Also, It's a bit hard to believe, the works were not authenticated by the Competition, especially, at the time she was shortlisted into the finals. Surely at that stage of judging, a more rigorous process should have been used to make sure the portfolio met the guidelines???

It's a bit of a mess for ALL involved.

That's right, It's not easy being "green" , ( IE a Pentax person)

Yes, would be nice to see re-releases of those two with undated motors in them, but, unfortunately I'm unsure that would happen, seeing how the HD 35/2 , is the same design, just a little cosmetics on the outside, and new coatings on the same design glass inside. So I'm not sure, HOW much redesign would be needed to swap the SDM to a DC motor?? or even if there could be an upgrade program for them , similar to the K-1 to K-1ii upgrade.... Could you image that, send in your old SDM lenses, to get a DC Motor upgrade on them , they did it with a Camera, why not lenses???

Until then, I wish Pentax, would finally bit the bullet, and give a firmware update, that would allow people to switch them to screwdrive "in camera menu" so when they do fail they are still easily usable by even a novice , without having to do all the hacking that is needed currently.

That KP is still super super tempting, I keep imagining a silver one, with a Limited set of primes say a 15/43/77 and a 20-40 . as a travel/daily kit.

Yeah, I get that too, back in the old days when camera stores actually stocked Pentax, but generally , they don't, and not because of this, but, because they sell what most people want, nothing wrong with that, a store has to watch what it is selling to make business viable.

I bought , my D'ist and K-7 from Teds along with nearly all of my old film lenses and slr's , K-5 and quite a few Sigma K-mount lenses from Photo Continental ( now gone unfortunately ) and K-1 from Digital Camera Warehouse, all bricks and mortar stores, walked in and bought them , same for a lot of my older lenses, there was not internet buying back then anyway, but these days, I can't walk into a store and buy these lenses, they just don't have them, and most are just not interested to even order them for you, just too much hassle. Or the things we want, just aren't available here in Australia, so we have to buy from overseas.

Anyway, Good to see, the Lens is here, will be watching as people get theirs and start posting some actually pictures taken with it, rather than pictures off the lens.

This ^^^^^^^^^^

Whilst I really like this new 11-18 , it is a few years late to be a priority lens, I too , am very happy with the DFA 15-30 on the K-1, so am happy to wait a little. ( unless I don't.....)

Yeah, I'm sure Clem doesn't care which we buy from, so long as we I buy. I Generally wait for the sale on dcxpert, as that is CR Kennedy anyway, BUt alway check the price difference on the Pentax site as well, recently the DFA150-450 was a tad under 3700 on dcxpert, and only 3400 on the Pentax site, just had to make sure the 20poocent sale was on a dcxpert , and the 15poocent wasn;t on at Pentax, to get best price I could. If Pentax had the 15 % sale, it would have been cheaper there. It's a numbers and waiting game.

Yes, I suppose when we actually decide to pull the trigger on these things, we do want them asap, and not have to wait around.

That's the beauty of the quick delivery from dcxpert, I put a lens in the cart on Wedensday morning and I pick it up at the Post Orifice on Thursday afternnon. That's quick........ I'm sure at some stage it will get precognitive, and, I'll get an email that I have a delivery waiting for me and It will be this lens, then i'll have to go on and order it

Finally , I had been watching the Australian site to see when it would show up as even an announcement, I want one, but, will probably end up waiting for a few months or so, for it to come on sale at dcxpert during one of those 20poocent sales. But generally these newer lenses don't get on their site for quite some time.

Not the Pentax 1.4 converter, But a Kenko 1.5x with the DFA 100mm/F2.8 at F2.8, so razor thin DoF,

Taken on my trusty old K-5 from a few years ago. Black and White conversion in camera.

This is actually a Pretty heavy crop too. His head is about 2.5mm across.. The circles in his eyes are my macro LED ring.

Thanks ! I have to go back there again soon and get some more, there are so many, and they are quite accustom to people so they don't just run away as soon as you see them.

Odd, I have re-linked the 2nd pic, hope it's working now .

Poll: If there is a new Q .... what would you like it to be ?

I would like a All Weather Q, that would be great, but means a whole new set of lenses.

A Marco lens, as most say, would be the one to complete the lens line, I'd like to see a Macro, with a set of LEDs around the front built in, that would be excellent.

I can't say that I would want a pop up or pop out EVF, I think that would add too much to the small form factor of the Q , which is one of the things that makes it, BUT, I would like the option to attach an EVF say on the hotshoe , like other small form cameras do, so when I want it I can just attach it, like I do with the optical View finder now. Op course, the EVF would auto shut of the back screen when you put it up to the eye.

I'd also like to see a battery grip, just a tiny one underneath.

Wifi / bluetooth, for tethered control would be just brilliant.

Also, I'd like to see a K-mount adapter, still with it's own leaf shutter, that actually has power in it, and can run the AF in the DC or SDM lenses, and , hopefully even the aperture on the electronic aperture lenses, so AF and exposure fully supported when using K-mount on the Q.

Quite touching, pictures really convey the story.

Pets are great companions, esp for those alone, or, in a bad place, mentally or physically.

Thanks for Sharing

Yes, It was quite vibrant, although, I think the jepg out of the Q7 is saturated too, but, not far off the actual colours there. Could be he was getting ready for mating season, there was quite a few all around, he was one of the larger ones, but there was another there about twice his size. It's a really good place to go get photos.

Thanks for Loooking

We all have to wait for the Approved and Spellchecked script to come thru.....

We all used to be "Austrians" till that one time, somebody accidentally spelt it "Australia" , then in the mad, ad-lib scramble to cover that one up, we made up Kangaroos, Koalas and Echidnas spiraling out of control till we came up with a Mammal, that is semiaquatic , has fur, and a Duck bill, lays eggs, and has poisonous claw... a ... a. Oh lets call it a Platypus shall we.

Ever since then, we have been Australia's and we live Down-under. Thus, we have to wait for the Approved script.

It's good to know that the body L-grip should come with the Battery grip, (It makes a lot of sense ) .

I do think I'll wait to see what happens soon with a possible K-3 successor or whatever, maybe there will be something announced next month ??
The 150-450 should go well on my K-1 and K-3ii, but really hope they bring out a FF teleconverter soon... and a HD DFA*250-600mm\F5.6 DC IF AW of course ;)

There's plenty of other bargains there too.

Hopefully the 150-450 will show up tommorrow for the Long weekend

Yeah, so tempted, but, I did just spoon out for the 150-450. Not sure I should be jumping back in the pool so quickly after a big lunch. :)

Yes, I've got fairly big hands, and I also wondered, about the battery grip. I've heard conflicting reports, that you DO get the large body grip with the battery grip ( IE - Included in the box with the battery grip ) Also heard thats a NO, and you have to source it sep.

Wouldn't mind knowing for sure about that.

I would say this is going to be very sturdy indeed..
