Ricoh is working....with Zenit on a K-1 rebadge DSLR???

That's silly. I think it's far more likely they're just licencing out the k mount to zenit, or zenit is building on the k platform.

I bought a sprocket rocket. Fun camera! I don't know how to get a good DSLR scan on the negatives yet... I'll get there. :D

Specific lenses with K1 for trip to New Zealand

I definitely think there's something to be said about bringing less gear. Hauling a lot of lenses gets annoying quickly, especially if you're trying to keep up with other people. One nice zoom (which you have) does the trick for most of it.

I did a bike tour in NZ in 2007, it's a stunning place, I wish I could go back. Generally there will be a lot of light, the 28-105WR is a great choice. A 14mm would be good for some of the wide views. A tripod is a good call but honestly I didn't need one for most of the time I was there. There are a lot of tourists most places, you have to worry about the tripod being in the way, etc.

I'd say 28-105, 14, maybe the macro.

How many days will you be there, which Island?

Important gear -> HIKING SHOES and a rain jacket. There are so many good hiking opportunities, some short, some long. Bring thee hiking shoes. :D

People are friendly there, if you are friendly and talkative you might just find some cool sights off the beaten track. The tourist industry is huge and varied, but you don't need to spend $$$ for most of the sights.

There's lots of funny stuff built, probably back in the early 1900s. It's a quirky place, keep your eyes open and you never know what you might see... :^D

Make sure to go to the Kauri museum if possible!

I get that they had to add a touch screen, I hope you have the option to turn it off. 6 years ago I had an olympus XZ2 (nice camera!), it had a touch screen. I never used it, except for playback. For a serious photographer, I don't think it's very useful. Shutter button, some controls, done.

Optical formula... coatings, or just the picture of the lens elements?

Ps: I'm sure they're both nice, but if I was buying new, I'd buy the pentax, thanks!

That's neat, I bet it will be a really nice performing lens! 150mm is interesting at macro distances, DOF will even be more of a challenge. This will probably make a killer portrait lens!

My Petri does have a meter, but the ISO setting only goes up to 800, and honestly it was way to dark to deal with that anyway. I winged it, using the Ultimate Exposure Calculator.

I have a pentax PZ-10 that's pretty slick to load and unload, but not quite that nice!

Fyi thanks for all the suggestions. I shot at 1600. Didn't get that many shots but hopefully a few keepers.

The way you slip it in, it's such a pain to get it to start taking up the film. It just seems like a really fidgety design.

Fair enough! :) I guess for me, I'm not going to fight it for a concert, but in day to day life I feel photographers rights are pretty well entrenched in public places.

I lucked out with the Petri, bought it for $30 Canadian. It's a nice camera, only gripe is that I find the film reel to be almost impossible to load, massively frustrating each time I need to change film.

I believe this to be a straw man argument, at least here in Canada. Concert venue == private property. Public place, I'd tell authority XYZ I'm in the right, and what was your badge number?
