More Limited lenses

My experience with limited lenses is limited (no pun intended) to the FA 77mm and FA 31mm back in the film era. I loved those lenses when I had them; I stupidly sold them years ago though. They rocked as a two lens kit for travel and were capable of producing a wonderful black and white negative. I've used Leicas in the past too, and although different I hold those two lenses in the same image quality and use.

I'd like to see a 135mm limited lens in the same build quality, image rendering, and size as those two limiteds...rather small and in the 2.8-2.0 speed range. It would make a wonderful companion for me and get me to buy all three.

Between Nikon and Canon, I would choose Nikon everytime. I never got along with Canon camera bodies, even back in the film days. Loved the Nikon F5 though.

If pentax stopped making cameras it truly wouldn't ruin it for me because I'm solidly still in the film/manual focus camp and older Pentax gear is awesome for that.

But, since it is a poll I voted for Leica. Back in the day I have shot Leica side by side with a Pentax 645 system and a Pentax Pz-1p/Mx system. The way I shoot, which is basicall prime lenses in the 24-100mm range, Leica m cameras rule...and so does Pentax. Leica is, frankly, too expensive for me to purchase though, but if forced I could make do with a Leica M and two lens set up.

I like the Pz-1p a lot, and it is the one film camera I have owned for a long time that I always got along with. Using the control wheels for aperture and shutter speed with an excellent lcd readout in the viewfinder really help and the camera sticks the controls right under the fingers where they should be. Just an all around great camera and great to use with manual focus lenses from the past.

However, I do think the Mz-s is a bit better camera for using larger lenses like you are showing in your picture especially ones with the tripod collar. The Pz had a basically useless handgrip that didn't add any real functionality to the camera where the MZ-S battery grip adds an extra grip and shutter button. This is really helpful when using a physically long lens mounted to a tripod. Plus, I think the Mz-s is better built than the Pz-1p in general. If I were shooting a lens like a 70-200 f2.8 I would choose the Mz-S over the Pz anyday.

Thankfully, I use old a, m, and k lenses with the pz and don't tripod it, so that camera works very well for me.

Back in the day, before digital was huge, my travel camera setup was a Pentax Pz-1p with the 77mm limited and the 31mm limited. It made a wonderful two lens setup that came with me all over Europe, to the western United States, to the streets of Chicago and anywhere else I roamed. I even used that setup on my honeymoon. I stupidly sold all of it...dumb move.

The 77 was my favorite mostly because I gravitate to short telephotos, but the images I got with the 31 using FP4 or Velvia had a wonderful rendering. The build quality of the lens is awesome too.

Which AF SLR to buy

Really? I always thought the camera had the buttons layed out exactly how I want them and switching between aperture and shutter speed via the rotating knobs right under your fingers/thumb is great.

For a while in my shooting I switched over to Nikon using some of their lower end digital models like the D50 ect, hated it, and always felt that Pentax had it nailed with the Pz-1p.

I do have some digital photography experience but mostly film experience. Back when digital was coming in I had my own darkroom, was shooting and printing primarily black and white but then I got married, stopped shooting, and picked up other hobbies; life got in the way. The digital stuff I shot never really meshed with me because of the work on the computer. I can't complain about the immediacy of digital though.

I just now found this forum and thought I would introduce myself. I used to shoot pentax back in the film days with a few MX, LX, and PZ1-p cameras with various lenses, but sold them off. I really want to start shooting again and have always gotten along with the brand, so I'm looking for info and equipment. Really interested in a Pz1-P camera and a digital one, with some limited lenses. Thanks for having me.
