DA35 f2.4 - the Plastic Fantastic club

I was using a macro lens to photograph my Asahi Pentax Trinity- AP, S and K models, however diffraction ruined the photos since I needed f/22.
Plastic fantastic to the rescue. f/22 was no problem. My trusty housebound K-r was the camera.

Thank you.
I always figured my collection would be missing the rare S model until Gerjan Van Oosten (author of The Ultimate Asahi Pentax Screwmount Guide) listed one on an international Pentax buy-sell Facebook group. I messaged immediately. We had to work out exchange rates, PayPal fees and international insured postage from the Netherlands. Total cost of the clean, fully serviced S model was just $290 USD. I would have been insane to have passed it up!

Not as NSFW as it would have been for cameras with no prism dents. Every single pre-hotshoe Pentax in my collection has at least one prism dent!! H1, H3, H3v, and several spotmatics all have the accessory meter, or cold shoe love dents.

My DA 10-17 Fisheye zoom had to save the day to make both of these images. The old school is just forty feet from a sheer cliff down to an active railroad. The old house has multiple thick utility cables and a pole very close. Both ate in Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

Potential buyer- leave the 8gb card in the camera and download the photos via USB cable. Format the card when download is complete. The K-r makes a very good product photo camera, it works very well with LED lighting and delivers excellent files @ ISO 200.

Landscape Independence Day Veteran's Flags

July 4th, 2020, Independence Day in The United States of America. Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville Pennsylvania has several thousand United States Military Veterans interred. About twenty five years ago, a local US Army Veteran got the idea to ask relatives of deceased US Military servicemen and women to donate the five by eight foot flags presented to the family at the end of each funeral service. The display has grown and grown. Approximately four hundred of the collection, now well over one-thousand flags, is flown on a few patriotic holidays each year. Volunteers do all the work. At the base of each flagpole is a small marker with the name of a serviceman represented by that flag.

I never thought owning an Asahi Pentax S to complete my early Pentax SLR collection would happen. Only approximately 4,900 were produced. Then I spied this for sale on Pentaxians FB for 300 Euros. Several messages and I had it on the way for $290 USD including shipping and fees!!!
The best part- I bought this camera from Gerjan Van Oosten, the author of "The Ultimate Asahi Pentax Screw Mount Guide 1952 - 1977", who purchased the well cared for camera on a trip to Belgium.
Direct from the Netherlands to my collection-and it arrived on my Birthday!!
These are just quick photos, I need to pair it with an appropriate Takumar lens and then photograph the AP/S/K trifecta together.

I held my breath, braced my elbow into the car seat and slowly exhaled while squeezing the shutter release. Good technique and Pentax image stabilization along with the superb sharpness of the DA* 300 allowed a natural looking image.

Less than a hour after finallyreceiving the used DA* 300/4 I purchased nearly a month ago I captured a gray catbird and a molting white breasted nuthatch. Deep shade required ISO 2000 from my KP and f/5 from the DA*300/4.

After a twenty three day USPS shipping debacle, the DA*300/4 I bought from a PF member finally arrived yesterday. Quick testing gives this well “experienced “ lens a big thumbs up. Compared to my much loved F* 300/4.5 the DA*300 is sharper wide open and the AF is quiet and faster, the two of three reasons I wanted a copy of the newer lens. Reason three? Weather and dust resistance.

COVID19 was not the culprit-

The long overdue Priority Mail package containing the DA* 300/4 shipped from Alaska to Pennsylvania on June 4th arrived this afternoon. Over $30 worth of postage and a tracking number showing as Priority Mail in USPS tracking.
LOOK at the photos- notice anything missing?? The clerk at the mailing PO never put a Priority Mail sticker or tape on the box!! So, the package went with all the bulk mail and Parcel Post. Ship and ground transportation instead of aircraft. Moral of the story-if paying for Priority Mail and the Post Office uses stamps because they donít have a label printer MAKE SURE they put a Priority Mail sticker on the box.

DA*60-250 Out of stock?

My DA* 60-250/4 quits AF at the most inopportune times. Very, very aggravating. It happens much more often on my K5iis than the KP. I have to quickly flip the AF switch on the camera to manual, then back to AF and THEN shut the camera off and turn it back on to revive AF. The forum member who sold me this lens neglected to mention this more than small issue. I really love the lens other than the AF issue. Shame nobody can crack the close to make the 60/250 operate in screwdrive mode.

End this issue-buy the battery grip and use the bigger, better DL-i90 batteries. I have to have the grip because of my large hands, however the increased battery life and vertical shutter release are lifesavers.
