Hi everyone

Summer is busy time in Finland, as we need to do all living in 3 months, before we lock down for winter

To my surprice I found myself on holiday this week, so try to stay away from computer as much as possible. I try to get more involved next week when back in work, but does feel crowded with all my hobbies and friends.

Cleaned up my Flickr account to make room for the last two months of M primes. It was quite easy. I took out only shots I was never completely happy with :)

Choosing between the M 28/2.8 and the M 28/3.5

I don't remember flare issues as long as you keep sun out of the frame. I really don't pay attention to distortion or do brick wall tests with my lenses. Can't help you here.

Choosing between the M 28/2.8 and the M 28/3.5

I have both. I think the main difference is starbursts. 2.8 is among the best in M series and 3.5 simply sucks. 2.8 also handle flare and vignetting really well, thought I don't remember any vignetting issues with 3.5 either. If starbursts don't matter, I suggest either one :D

My single in challenge albums, if you like to check yourself.

M28/2.8 in APSC

M28/3.5 in APSC

M28/3.5 in FF

I'll shoot a month in FF with M28/2.8 in August.

You can put that M42toPK adapter in the extension tube. You don't need specific M42 tubes. That of course makes it hard to switch the tubes on and off, unless you have flanged adapter:

Of course the problem with flanged adapter is that you can't reach the infinity, but it makes switching between K mount lenses and M42 lenses a lot faster. I have flanged adapter on default on my Yashinon 60mm macro in case I have something I want to get really close to. I switch to original adapter if I go out with M42 lenses only.

I like that lens. Had a fun month with it in December. I find it sharp enough even wide open. Thought it gets sharper stopped down, the bokeh is worth it to go f2 at times. Works really well with extension tubes as well.

Yes, it has an edge over f3.5. Minimonster probably tries the lens in FF also during the month, so you will see how it works.

Useless in a sence that one step down is so much better that it's worth one stop in ISO if needed.

If you are after close focus check what Minimonster does with 35ltd macro in July.

K30 gone mad?!

It still works with manual lenses.

I never fixed mine, but instead bought couple of cheap manual lenses to keep it going. Then I bought few more expensive manual lenses, as I found it was fun to shoot with them. Then I bought a K5 to have an second body to play with my lenses. Then I bough a lot more manual lenses, K1ii and K3 when fully developed LBA and GAS really kicked in. Now I find myself dreaming of new DFA* lenses, so might be cheaper to keep that K30 in that box

I had high hopes when I started the month, as M35/2 was my go to lens on APSC. During the month I started to understand the phrase; Too wide and not wide enough. Also corner performance on FF was a bit of a let down. And my performance was also questionable. My first missed day in SIC came right on the first day, when I couldn't tell 85/2 from 35/2, thought I read the lens name couple of times and wondered about narrow FOV. That's what you get for not carrying your reading glasses with you

I've been wondering which one of M35's is better and still don't have clear answer. I go with they are both good and doesn't matter which one you have. Faster lens is bit useless wide open, so they are even about as fast lenses in reality. I took couple of shots wide open during the month, but lens goes too soft for my taste. F2.8 provide much better results and is quite usable. It's better to stuck to classic composition with target in the center, as the corners are bit week even at f8. Lens does handle the sunsets well and brings out acceptable results even shot straight to the sun, which is not bad for lens this old. Bokeh is nice for a wide angle with smooth transition.

As a lens M35/2 is versatile. It takes good landscapes and enjoys scenes where all is sharp. Focus close and open up the lens and it deliveres good separation and nice bokeh. Macro feature wouldn't hurt as it draws real nice with extension tubes.

I seriously consider this lens if I keep carrying 35 in my travel bag. On FF it doesn't feel as essential as on APSC. I have M28/2.8 to finish my FF round of M primes in August and I need to see how I feel about that focal length. Nevertheless I'll keep both of my 35's for now. Too good to let go and I might end up regretting selling them :)

I guess it's time to let the shots to the talking and continue with M200/4 in July Single In Challenge.

Cheap shot every now and then keeps you going :)

I have heard that one of the ideas of the challenge is to document the everyday life of participants and share it with others, so I do that quite a lot. It gives a lot of material to challenge.

I think the problem with M200 these days is that it's not quite sharp enough. I bought it to have a cheap longer tele for occasional use, but pretty soon I fell for M*300 and 200 became useless.

Only 2 years? Feels like you've always been here. Maybe because I haven't been here much longer. 3 years at the end of August. And thanks for compliment.

M200 is cheap. It probably is quite common and nothing special in sharpness which explains it. Bokeh is probably its best feature with that M series rendering. Personally I've already replaced it with Tak 200/3.5, but I give it this one more go.
