Poll: Should we allow or disallow religious/political threads in General Talk?

I agree with what has been said before, where does censorship end? So I vote to allow political or religious discussions. Maybe just a warning to enter at your own risk and refrain from uglyness... just my 2 cents

While they are all good, it's the 'mirror' that does it for me. It's more a feeling that I get with that one..

I wonder, is there nobody on this forum who has the inside track to Pentax to point the shortcomings of the current firmware out?

Home of the world's longest skating path (8.5 km).
I love my K10D and when the weather cooperates (currently windchill of minus 43 Deg. Celsius) I love to hike and photograph landscapes.
And of course, family events are always a must.

Consider myself an enthusiast with lots to learn and look into this forum several times a day. Exciting times we're living in..

Which pentax 28-105?

Thanks all, I'm still undecided. I like the PZ and the fact that the lens is black, but it's twice the weight of the 3.2. It becomes a factor when carrying a camera (K10D with grip) and possibly 3 lenses for up to 12 hours at a time. I guess availability will be the deciding factor.

Check out McBains (K10D for $999CDN on the web)
or Don's Photo (I found that items in the store tend to be more competitive in the store than online)

Well, if I have to choose then it'll have to be red by a slight margin. On both choices the fontsare to small for my eyes.
Overall I still prefer the simple skin. Still the most pleasent.

Thanks 'volosong', the thought had crossed my mind as well but but I too would be concerend about having them burnt to CD. I'm currently pricing out mem cards but the lowest price so far is 40 CDN for a 2 GB card at Best Buy (GXT 133).

I definetely have to sharpen my pencil to see which way to go, I like the idea of small memory cards instead of a hardrive to carry. But 30 - 40 GB in mem cards still add up in money...
But it's definetely food for thought

I've picked up the K10D last month but had already purchased a few lenses in anticipation. So I'm up to 6 and also have a few ancient ones from the Me days.
Well, justthisweekend I made up an inventory list for the insurance on my equipment and my heart took a beat after I saw the money i had spent. Instand LBA cure...NO MORE!
(Well, unless...USM....??):D

I'm planning a trip to Europe in the summer and taking the K10D. Since I won't have access to a computer or anything else, how can I store my pictures until I return? I'll have half a dozen memory cards but that wont last very long.
Can you recommend a good travel and storage system, preferable something that is available in Canada?

Hi and welcome.
I think those leaves are 'wild garlic''. It's nice to seen pictures from Germany. Keep them coming. Would love to see more. As for technical problems, I'm probably not the right person to ask but there are a lot of people here who are more than capable and I'm sure also willing to help out.

Thanks for all your help especially from John, Will and Ben. You have given me a lot of information that I need to digest but I got a clearer picture now of what I need to do to accomplish the outcome I desire.
Until then I guess I'll read some books and download some trial versions of software to see what suits me. I hope I can count on your support if I have any more questions.
Thanks again...

John, you make a very good point. Here is the way I envision it.
a) Take pic in RAW
b) Convert RAW to Jpeg
c) edit Jpeg, crop etc
d) print some nice ones to hang on the wall 8x10. I print a fair number of them to rotate my pictures and also burn the odd CD for relatives
The reason I want to take shots in RAW is so I can always go back and work with them as I learn a bit more. I want to learn to convert to b/w, maybe even try HDR or infrared. But I need to go step by step and get the basics down pat first.

Hi jfdavis58, the only software I have ever used was Microsoft PictureIt! to crop some Jpegs out of my P&S. Nothing more.
So now to take advantage of The K10D's capability I would like to move on to RAW processing in some form
