Update: Sent lens to Sigma on Monday. Got it back with firmware upgrade and mount modification (apparently a known issue where it scratches camera body). Got it back Friday. Tested on K70. Working better than ever. No charge! Well done Sigma UK.

I have both the Pentax K50 and the K70. When I noted this problem on K70 I immediately tested the lens on the K50. The lens worked perfectly. As it should. No issues with the HSM. The lens isn't compatible with the K70.

I'm waiting on Sigma to respond to an email. Will see if they say anything. I'll be well upset if they say they don't support Pentax anymore.

Hiya,

I've had this lens a while. Worked perfectly with both my old KX and K50. Recently bought a K70 and the K70 says 'no'.

I attach the lens, switch the K70 on and it effectively just freezes. The LCD is on but you can't do anything. Even if you turn power off on camera it stays on. Only way to resolve issue is to remove the lens or pull out battery.

I rechecked lens on my K50 and it still works perfectly.

I've contacted Pentax and they say it isn't their problem and to contact Sigma. Being an older lens I didn't think updating the firmware was that easy. Has anyone gone or had this issue with this lens? Would Sigma charge you update the lens firmware? Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello...

Saw this posting after having just discovered myself having the same problem with this same lens and K70. Tested lens on my K50 and works fine. On my K70 it just freezes the camera body. Can't even turn the body off unless you remove lens or take out battery.

Any updates on this issue???

I'm currently using a Pentax K70. I have all three lenses. I'm a little greedy in the sense I have these things, but don't make full use of them. I'm looking at ultimately trimming my collection of lenses down as I can't exactly take them to the grave with me. I was curious in wondering what people thought. All three lenses have a place but it seems most people are pointing to the 70mm as the general choice of the three.

It's an interesting survey with good comments on rational for choice so thank you all for your feedback.

Hello...

Question for you all...

You have a choice out of the following 3 Sigma Macro lenses:

Sigma 50mm F2.8 EX DG Macro - Sigma 50mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro - Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro - Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX and EX DG Macros Lens Reviews - Sigma Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

If you could have one which one would you have and why?

Would be interested in finding out what people think.

Thanks Jaq1967 :)

Pentax K-50 and Sigma EF 610 DG ST Flash.

Yes... I am wrong. Why? Because I'm an idiot! It would have helped if I moved the switch on the lens to 'A'. It worked on the K-50 after that! Beats me how it worked on the K-X without it switch to 'A' but I ain't gonna worry about that. Life's too short! Lol...

---------- Post added 04-06-2014 at 07:56 AM ----------

Besides... How do you figure the 28-80 AF not adhering to the specs if indeed the AF is OLDER than the K-50?!? Surely that's not a possible conclusion if prior to the K-50 it worked with all other models?!?

That's might be the reason why an old Sigma AF 28-80 lens won't work with my K-50 but is happy on my K-X.

I liked Pentax for being backward compatible but seems like they are less backward compatible as they use to be. Not good, as some of the old stuff is perfectly functional at the fraction of the price!

Thank you (...both) for your advice and help.

Pentax K-50 and Sigma EF 610 DG ST Flash.

Hello Everyone,

I've recently updated my DSLR from, K-X to K-50. I've also got my hands on a Sigma EF 610 DG ST flash.

I am looking at doing some indoor photography - portrait stuff. I am also maybe getting some slave flash units and umbrellas. I believe the flash I have does not trigger other flashes so will need some kind of trigger (unit that will sit between K-50 and Sigma Flash) and no doubt a receiver (or two) and slave flash(s), umbrella(s) that will essentially do what I am looking for?

I'm new to this side of photography so any advice, pointers and suggestions most welcome on what equipment I should be looking for - I am not looking to break the bank so aiming for functional rather than top-of-the-range until I feel comfortable.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

Well... After two years since I did this hack it all works still very well. Great for my Astrophotography and long exposures.

Getting a K-50 now but will keep my KX for Astrophotography. Glad people found my hack fun and hope it helped some take courage in being creative. :)

My Pentax K-X DSLR DIY AC/DC PSU (K-AC86)

Hi Guys...

I thought I'd share my 5 minute DIY project.

After having seen how expensive the Pentax K-AC86 PSU cost I thought I would do my own.

I found out the genuine PSU was 6.5v 3A so figured I'd get something close to this. I picked up a PSU from my CCTV dept at work. Regulated 5v 2.6A. Seeing I was using rechargables it would be OK. If anything less chance of blowing up my camera. Cost: Nothing. I then got from eBay 2 x AAA to AA converters. Cost: 2.50. I also got a CCTV female DC Pigtail. Again from eBay. Cost: 1.00.

The PSU has a male DC central positive pin which was 2.1mm. It is important to make sure it will fit your pigtail (also 2.1mm). I positioned the Converters into the battery housing making note where I'd drill the holes to feed the cables through. I drilled the holes. I knocked out the contact pins and fed the cables through the ends and stripped them and jammed the bare cables back with the contact pins on the Converters.

It fitted the battery housing nicely. Note: The positive terminal is at the top and the negative at the bottom. Ensure you connect the polarity of the wires correctly. Plug the PSU into the mains and switch on the camera. Note the battery level indicator (top right) is green! It works and it cost me peanuts.

Now I can do some astrophotography with less worry.

Jacques.

Btw... if you do this and you mess up your camera I take no responsibility for your mess - You can easily fry your camera if you use the wrong PSU and mess up the cabling.

Does anybody know or recommend a device I can attach to my Pentax KX to stabilise the image whilst I am in motion? I've seen things like the Flycam Nano but can't see a fitment for Pentax.

Recommendations welcome. Thanks

Macro lens required for Pentax K-X

Hi,

I'm new to this and am slowly learning photography. I bought the K-X twin lens kit as a good starting DSLR. I am looking for recommendations on additional bits and bobs to get me started. I am looking for value for money and probably good secondhand stuff compatible to get me started - until I feel comfortable and spend big bucks!

I am looking for a macro lens. I am also looking for a flash gun.

Any suggestions welcome on this subject.

Thanks...
