I'll be keen to see the reviews too before parting with my cash. I wouldn't upgrade for Pixel Shift but as I'm often shooting canine events under flood lights any improvement in high ISO output is welcome. I'll usually be shooting these events with the 70-200 f2.8 at ISO 5000 or 6400 and f4.0 or f4.5 at about 1/160 or 1/200sec. I don't even bother with movement shots under those lighting conditions so it's just when dogs are presented to the judge. I was expecting $900 given how most tech items seem to get whacked with that little bit extra here so at $700 it will be more enticing.

Would have loved to see a replacement for my k-3ii as well but I'm in no rush so it'll continue to get a good workout as well. A full weekend of shows will often mean 6,000 to 7,000 images especially if I'm also trying to capture movement shots (day time events). Here's where I'd really love a deep buffer and fast clearing. There is no way that you can time exactly the proper foot placement of a dog on the move and unless the foot placement is in precisely the proper position the image is useless. You have to shoot in bursts and hope that you get at least a frame or two that are useful. The buffer will usually be filled just trying to get a movement shot of the 1 dog and most of the time it hasn't cleared by the time the next dog is asked by the judge to gait around the ring. I know there are models in other brands that would probably suit this style of photography more as well as for my bird/nature photography but I've had Pentax cameras since the Super A in the early 80's and I'm hardly likely to change now. Most things I'm happy with just a couple of niggles that I work around... oh and wider coverage of the frame with the AF points is my other wish list item.

Looking forward to the hands-on K-1 mkii reviews in the coming weeks and then it'll be working out when I can do without my unit. Hopefully it'll be a reasonable turnaround.

Updated to v1.10 firmware and went out photographing birds last Saturday morning. - Issue appears to be resolved for me. No more weird exposure issues when shooting HiSpeed sequences.

Needed to do a session with the K-1 on the weekend. I show dogs and also get official photographer duties some weekends.

Last weekend I found my K-1 incorrectly adjusting the shutter speed when shooting Hi speed in Av mode. I'm yet to go through the 2,000 plus images from the weekend fully but here's what I have so far.

K-1 (no D-BG6 grip) in Av mode, Hi speed, WB - daylight, crop manually set to FF, center weighted metering, AFC, back button focusing (no focus on shutter button), DA*55 lens (gives slight vignetting on FF but images usually get cropped). I would shoot a continuous sequence and the first frame would be correctly exposed but then the shutter speed would start increasing in subsequent frames all the way up to 1/8000 giving me a series of underexposed images (nearly like doing a bracket exposure going 0EV, -1EV, -2EV but I'm not in bracketing mode). Tonight I hope to go through the images to see if I had this issue at all while using the Sigma 70-200 - definitely with the DA*55 but not sure on the other lens I used on the weekend from memory.

An Update: checking through my images I had the same issue intermittantly with the Sigma 70-200 EX DG OS HSM. Found a 5 frame sequence ISO at 200, F4 - 3 frames at 1/640 then strangely stepped to 1/1250 next frame and then to 1/2000 the frame after. No change to subject or lighting.

There was no mention of them doing a special warranty so I assumed it to be the same as everywhere else. Yes their website says 2 years, so I might confirm that with them next week. and take a screen capture of their website.

K-1s have hit stores here in Brisbane as I picked mine up from Ted's yesterday at lunch time. They ordered 4 and 3 were promptly pre-ordered. Maybe they'll at least have a shelf for some Pentax gear soon. Can't actually go into a store and hold something in your hand before you decide to buy. If we want them in stores we have to purchase in stores rather than going back to CRK. Why would a store want to carry them if buyers go to the distributor?

Might not be any K-1 shots from Oz either. Official launch May 10th and digiDIRECT, who are partnering with Pentax for the launch have released a review on youtube and the last few seconds has a block of text saying the K-1 will not be available in stores until after the launch. I can only hope it's digiDIRECT stores and the other outlets will have them on the day of the launch (or before), but I doubt it.

I'm guessing that is if your pre-order is through CRK for $2899, not if you've pre-ordered through Ted's or anywhere else. Might be looking like a Friday 13th delivery. :-(

Thanks for the feedback manntax. I did actually focus on the buidings off in the distance rather than that chain a few feet in front of me. I do see your point though and will revisit the raw image to see if it does have a problem or if I may have caused the issue in PP. Wonder if a light haze in the city might have also taken the crispness out of distant objects....or if the poor old kit lens just isn't that sharp. In any case I'll check the PEF file again. Cheers.

A 2am early morning start to go into the city to attend the Brisbane Anzac Day pre-dawn commemorative service (25 April 2014). After the service I went down to the riverside to watch the sun come up over the Story Bridge.

Tone mapping in Photomatix and then some final tweaks back in LR5.
Details: Pentax k-5, 18-55mm lens at 18mm, 8 secs, f11, ISO 100.
