My first two rolls should be at my house tomorrow. Sadly I left two days ago on a 2000 mile vacation trip, which I really wanted to have them with me. Oh well, they’ll be there when I return, and I have some Velvia packed.

I was quite pleased with the 135 in Rodinal. The 135 seems hit or miss, but 120 seems easier to find.

Bruce,

In my experience shooting events and weddings, reliability is key with flash. Which seems to be the issue you are having, you don’t want to be running and gunning and have the flash mis-fire. This is why my solution was Pentax and Metz flashes, they just work. I have and use others, and while I like them, they aren’t without their problems.

I hope you find a better solution.

The demise of Google+: what replacement to use?

Google+ was nice, for a short time. Then it seemed like some groups became inundated with spam posts and I walked away from it. I spend my time here, Flickr, and browsing Wordpress. I’m too busy for Facebook these days, so I’m not doing much there.

Good luck finding something else.

Thank you all for your concern. This morning at 0600 we were released of our emergency status. When I started shift yesterday morning, the hurricane was due south of us. Although they expected it to turn east, as it did, I've been through hurricanes Erin, Opal and Dennis, and it is not uncommon for the hurricane to "wobble" before it comes ashore, changing the landing point by up to 100 miles.

My area I worked was just west of the bridge which seemed to be the dividing line between major damage and little damage. We saw sustained winds of 40mph for nearly 5 hours with gusts between 50 and 55mph. Those on the other side of the bridge saw much worse.

My prayers go out to those where it made landfall. My wife is a Trauma Nurse here at the local Emergency Room. Last night they were transporting patients from the hospital at Panama City (landfall point) to her hospital all night. The roof of their hospital blew off, and as I write this, they are still digging patients and staff out of the rubble.

Here's a few images from my area...

The storm surge was the most dangerous part of the storm. We saw 3-6 foot surge, landfall saw over 13 foot...

The K5 series are great cameras, I still use mine. But compared to the K3, the K5 lags in auto focus capabilities, which may be something to consider as a beginner. If I were going to recommend a Pentax to begin with, I would start with the K70.

About 3 years ago I decided to go into law enforcement and became a Deputy Sheriff here in Okaloosa County Florida.

Yesterday morning we enacted Emergency Protocol due to the hurricane, which means every Deputy is on duty for 12 hour shifts, either day or night. I came in early this morning at 0400 hours (shift began at 0600) but we already had heavy rain and starting wind. Itís now noon and our sustained winds are reaching 40mph and are soon expected to reach upwards of 75mph. Yes, I work by the Gulf of Mexico, just west of Destin.

I made sure to bring my K3 and DA20-40 so Iíll have some photos to share when we finally get a day off. But I have to laugh with the way people look at me when get my Pentax out in the driving rain for a shot.

We should petition Ricoh for a K10D... with pixel shift. They can announce the new K10D for the 100th celebration of Pentax, with a Legacy camera!

They should all work fine. The Ricoh P lens will not work in the “P” setting, but will function as a “K” or “M” lens. I had the Rikenon 50 and it is a great lens on digital.

It would make sense for a new aps-c body to appear with the new 11-18mm. Sort of like the K-1ii and DFA 50 did this year.

Nice shots! I agree, Fona 100 works very well with Caffenol. Iíve done a bit of Foma 400 with Caffenol and really liked the results. Iíve never shot the 200 so Iíll be looking foreword to seeing your results.

Ricoh is working....with Zenit on a K-1 rebadge DSLR???

Iíd bet being partnered with another company, albeit outside Russia, would alleviate some of the restrictions. Otherwise I donít think they would have done the Leica collaboration, even if it is low production numbers. I think they are looking to other companies because they arenít able to put together the staff and equipment.

When I look at what theyíve done with Leica, doing something similar with Pentax makes sense on many levels. A smaller company with high quality equipment that can profit by working with them. Truth is, even by todayís standards, the K5 is still a good camera, and the K3 is still a great camera. If Ricoh/Pentax is planning a new K-1 in the near future, it would make a perfect camera to re-badge.

While I still think the K1000 is a good camera (only having recently acquired one) I’ll usually grab my Super Program, new K2 or LX (not a fair comparison) before the K1000. Actually, I’ll probably grap the Spotmatic first.

Since the K mount is public domain and has a vast array of legacy lenses still in regular use, there are many pluses for Zenit (KMZ) to attempt to partner with Ricoh/Pentax. But the biggest is their lack of infrastructure or ability to produce quality consumer electronics. Having Ricoh handle the production covers that aspect (just as that have done with Leica).

But yes, this rumor has been floating around the Internet netherworld for a couple of years now.

Super Program / Super-A Battery Drain Issue

I’ve had my Super Program about 10 years now, and I just put my 3rd set of batteries in it. Granted it saw heavy use the first couple of years, then sat on a shelf for about 5, then saw a year of regular use before sitting on a shelf until earlier this year when I started using it regular again. But wven while sitting, it didn’t drain the batteries and was working when I picked it up.

I agree with victormwldrew, it sounds like a short and something which would require at least a partial tear down of the camera. Even if the light meter were staying charges, the batteries should last three or more rolls of film.

My first thought would be a short in or near the battery compartment, which would not be very difficult to inspect by removing the bottom plate. I would recommend getting a set of good quality JIS screwdrivers as they are slightly different than phillips and will save you the headache of stripped screws.

Rick, what do you have for a computer system? It can make a difference in some of the answers you get.

I used Adobe for years, Bridge - Lightroom - Photoshop if needed. But I will NOT do monthly subscription, let me purchase my products outright.

So I started to make a change to Rawtherapee and Darktable. I've also worked my way away from Windows as I'm tired of being shut down every few days for an unknown amount of time while it updates, and if I refuse the updates, I get problems. So I'm now running Linux OS, which uses much less of my computer leaving more power for the processing.

Both of the programs I've listed are free and have Windows versions if you wish to try them out.
