Yes, you are lucky. I live about half way between New York City and Washington, D.C. Using the Authorized Ricoh Imaging Americas Dealers web locator, I see more than 60 "Dealers" within 100 miles. However, the closest that carries other than Theta products is more than 60 miles away. And that "Dealer" is a distributor that doesn't mention Pentax among its various brands and products such as fish finders and toilets for boats. And we actually have a couple of decent camera shops in the area.

So the good old USofA seems to be treated as a backwater. I know most of the reasons - Asia is the major market, carrying product is a two sided issue (dealers don't want to be stuck with unsold inventory), American buyers exhibit herd mentality, etc., but it is frustrating. Still keeping up the hope that things will improve.:(

No, I have the lens and have not found any instances of unexpected flare. And when I do see flare, I adjust my composition to minimize it to acceptable levels. It is my most used lens.

Yes, all the changes would entail both new hardware and the software/firmware to support it. We (high tech consumer goods manufacturer) used to estimate 3 fully developed and tested (including regression testing) lines of code per software engineer per day. That's a lot of people hours for the amount of code this would take. So, plenty of time and money would be needed, above and beyond the hardware development and costs, even if off the shelf parts were available.

Light is at least partially polarized when it reflects off any surface. So the effects of a polarizing filter will vary with the surface, but are worth a try.

File size from that 51MP sensor might have something to do with the performance of the OP's computer with a given software product. Other packages might use and manage computer resources better.

And the Metadata filter of the Grid View in the Lightroom Library Module permits similar analyses very quickly. You can use your whole data set ("All Photographs") or limit it based on dates, keywords, lens, camera, etc.

For my K-3, I chose the Sigma to replace the 18-55mm kit lens. It has done everything I've wanted from it - improved IQ, focus speed and low focus noise along with the f2.8 max aperture. In fact, if it were WR and had the color rendition of my DA*60-250 and DA12-24, I would say it was about perfect. I have found the reverse zoom rotation to not be an issue.

Sensor Cleaning

If you do not see the spots through the viewfinder, they are not on the mirror. Cleaning the mirror would be the last thing I would attempt myself, as it is front side silvered and hence quite delicate. The spots you illustrate via your attached image are most likely on the sensor. You have received good suggestions on how to proceed, using the method with the least potential for harm (blower) first.

If you are referring to this particular forum within Pentax Forums, it is actually titled "Pentax News and Rumors". A camera sync app as well as the how to articles are new and thus fit in quite nicely. If you need a bigger rumor fix, there are other sites and blogs that should fill that need.

I, too, tire of the flaming among participants and of Ricoh.

Although I was mostly involved in the hardware side of development projects, the SW folks usually quoted 2 lines of fully tested code per programmer per day as the expected output. This included all levels of testing from module through integration and regression testing. So, if the project was well defined, based off of previous similar product projects, and there was no feature creep once the contract book was approved, the SW team had something to base their estimates on. But they still needed to pad them for the unexpected issues that might arise.

If you want to run LR or PS, just make sure whatever hardware you purchase will support a 64-bit OS, as Adobe has stated that will be a requirement for newer versions (updates) of both. Of course, if what you want is LR CC (NOT Classic) you should be OK with just about any OS including Android.

The Color Mode selection should only affect jpg images. If you are shooting raw, pef or dng, the actual image (as opposed to the embedded preview) should be the same in any setting.

Yes, going with the physics, "K-ν" would be a good choice, where the second letter is the Greek small letter nu. Nu, being the frequency of light, and also sounding exactly like "new", there could be lots of fun with that name.

They could make it the "K-3.14..." After all, Pentax has already used the * in a camera name, so why not just three dots?

My guess is that most children won't be interested in any of their parents' photos. My father passed away about 20 years ago, and I still haven't done anything with most of his. I'm having enough of a motivational crisis to go through my own slides, negatives and prints to decide which to digitize. For other folks, YMMV.

I tend to agree. I think that Nikon looked at the money being spent on MILCs and decided that they wanted part of it. And with their name, cache, or whatever, they may actually steal sales that would have gone to Sony had they not entered the market. I don't think that they saw the end of the DSLR as the reason to introduce MILCs.

While I realize that much of what you said is hyperbole, since you have no idea what else a given individual chooses to fund (including charitable organizations) why pick on someone's spending on their hobby (or job)? I doubt that many people with cameras feel they were duped or tricked into buying a specific brand or model because they thought it would make them excellent photographers (by yours or anyone else's standards).

As others have already mentioned, if you have specific suggestions on how an individual can improve their work, most, if not all forum members, would positively respond to such suggestions directed to them via a PM. To make a public blanket statement that the work of others is weak only casts you as an elitist who would limit the forum or even the whole hobby to only those that meet your standards.

If it were mine, I wouldn't take the chance with the camera. Too many things could go wrong while it is unattended. And your lenses are not WR rated.

While release date is certainly the biggest unknown variable, do we know many of the other characteristics like sensor manufacturer or even MP, feature set, body design, etc. other than some we may have inferred from the interviews? Maybe I missed it.:)

That would be the one. I used to find them at Radio Shack stores, but we know that story. And the couple of local camera shops either didn't have them or wanted an arm and a leg for them.

I might add that battery availability is not the best, depending upon where you live and shop. I found that the accessory hand grip was a great addition.
