Gold is fashionable: see the Leica M10-P 'ASC 100 Edition' or the Canon EOS RP 'SP Gold' limited edition.

I agree with this re-reworked KP possibly being a hint at what's expecting us for the celebration of Asahi Optical's centennial.

Yes they do. The lens itself (a very simple design, 4 elements in 3 groups) has an M48 thread mount and a long flange back distance, allowing the addition of an M48 to SLR mount end part.

It's not an opinion, just facts and/or statements made by Ricoh:
  • Sales went down 15.1% for the quarter and down 8.7% for the nine-month period

  • 'Earnings' (I presume they mean the operating result) 'rose despite sales falling from narrowing down of products' ()

  • 'Ricoh Theta and other products' (which ones?) 'performed well.'

The reason is the sale of two businesses: semiconductors and logistics. See page #10 of https://www.ricoh.com/IR/data/pre/pdf/h31q3_1.pdf

The smc Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro (the first version, not the subsequent WR version) both had an aperture ring and supported the Quick-Shift focus system.

Thank you for rephrasing and explaining your point.

I will do the same on my side, taking into account you subsequent comments: could you please point out one Sony- (or Zeiss-) branded E-mount lens with such feature, i.e. an empty space of more than 2.5cm between the last element and the lens mount which would let suppose that this lens was first designed for a long-flanged SLR mount and then got an adapter tube grafted on?

I know of four such lenses but the corresponding space (less than the 2.5cm quoted above) is meant for allowing the use of a teleconverter, which protrudes inside the lens itself.
  • FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS

  • FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS

  • FE 70-200 mm f/4 G OSS

  • FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS

One would find the same design feature in long lenses in SLR mount.

So you are talking about third-party lenses originally designed for DSLR mounts and then adapted to the Sony E mount (e.g. most Sigma lenses and some Samyang lenses.)

If so what you wrote is a tautology.

Yep! Note the AOCO logo (Asahi Optical Corporation) on both the prism and the lens cap (Takumar-DA!)

The camera itself was a mere mock-up, a shell with wood inside.

I have the impression that the KP will be a one-off. I might be wrong though.

By the way, I'm not saying that there won't be any high-end APS-C DSLR with the Pentax logo any more; I'm just saying that, should Ricoh Imaging ever introduce such a camera, they won't name it K-3 III.

Could you please point out one native E-mount lens (not a multi-mount third-party lens originally designed for SLRs and then adapted to E mount) with such feature?

I think an announcement of the Ricoh GR III before CP+ is almost a given. As a Japanese company CP+ in Yokohama is 'their' trade show and they can't nor shan't miss announcing and showcasing a product bearing their name, even if not 100% ready, just to introduce it a few weeks after.

The availability date could be deferred though (and potentially delayed if something happens at the very last stages of pre-production), thus explaining the wording used by Ricoh Imaging in their CP+ web page (prototype cameras being available for touching and trying and the product being under development).

Further clues are given by an email just sent out by a French retailer -the guy is a very capable salesman and has been a huge supporter of Ricoh for decades.

Translation:

As you've certainly heard, the third Ricoh GR, the GRIII, is about to be announced and marketed.
Many of us are waiting for this new version.
The global press release will soon tell us officially about all its features and of course its availability and price.
Anyway, it's a great pleasure for me to announce that Ricoh France have done me the honour of choosing l'Instantané
[=The Snapshot :) -that's the name of his outlet] for a presentation day, a national exclusivity.
Soon I will formally invite you to touch and try the Ricoh GRIII.
You will be the first to take it in hand and discover it.
Upon release of the press release, you will receive your invitation.
Be patient ! ;)

I look forward to having soon the pleasure of seeing you gathered around our favourite photographic companion.

Generally speaking, yes, but the Pentax KP was announced four weeks before CP+ 2017.

De rien !

By the way, had the photo been taken at f/1.4, the transitions between in-focus and out-of-focus areas would have been much more brutal.

The aperture used is something like f/4.

The point is, the photo above was taken with a Rollei Carl Zeiss Planar HFT 85mm f/1.4 (1) (and a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, sorry for that :o), famous non only for its bokeh but also for its triangular aperture. :)

(1) The Rollei Carl Zeiss Planar HFT 85mm f/1.4 is a lens made for 24x36 cameras in Rollei QBM mount (Quick Bayonet Mount): Rolleiflex SL35 / SL350 / SL35M / SL35ME / SL35 E, Voigtländer VSL 1 (BM) / VSL 2 Automatic / VSL 3-E and Rolleiflex SL2000F / SL3003 / SL3001.

It derives from the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 in Contarex mount.

I'll add that the Rollei Carl Zeiss Planar HFT 85mm f/1.4 has six elements in five groups, like the FA 35mm f/2 .

Those of you who seem to think there is a correlation between the rendering of out-of-focus areas, the smoothness (or lack thereof) of the transitions between in-focus and out-of-focus areas, etc. and the number and shape of the aperture blades, could you guess how many apertures blades the diaphragm of the lens that took the picture below is made of?
