Seeking mirrorless to use legacy glass on...

No, its a strictly Pentax thing I think. Pentax AF lenses have the bar at the back with which you can flick the aperture open. I don't know if other makes have this. Its that bar that the adapter moves. You don't have exact control on the aperture, but you can make an educated guess based on the markings on the ring on the adapter.

You are spot on but its all relative. The XE1 is great for £100, the XE2 is better for £150, xt10 is £175 the Sony is tremendous for £200+ etc. It all comes down to budget. My budget was £100 and no more and for that the xe1 is peachy :) bottom line is all my money goes on Pentax kit. I just wanted something cheap enough to chuck about but was capable of decent results and the 16mp xtrans sensor is pretty good. OK, the write speeds are slooooow but as a knockabout for my vintage lenses, its fine. :)

They are! After all, even entry level Pentax cameras contain features that sonyfujicanicon deem unnecessary! On the subject of specialized, one new member of Lancaster Photographic society who is also new to photography was guided, by the camera press, into buying a Fuji x100f. And that woman called us speciality......... Unless, she just said special, then sneezed

I sit corrected :) although, to be fair, I was on top of a hill, quoting from memory, as I jogged along, banging my coconut shells together, .......... the ones the swallow can't possibly have brought! Anyway, I think I deserve a little more respect given my evident regal status, predicated by the fact that I don't have s**t all over me :D

I can see it now, as I reach for my Pentax, a hairy little man will pop up and say "...you must answer me these questions three before the other side you see...!" If I get the swallow question I am golden :)

OK, if you want cheap, go for the Fuji X-E1 and a K&F concept k mount/x mount adapter with aperture ring. The Fuji recently cost me £90 and the adapter another £25. The adapter moves the lever on the back of the k mount lens so you can use any AF lens, with or without an aperture ring on it. I had my 10-17mm fish eye on mine and the 40mm xs also works a treat. The pentax-m mounts work especially well, as do m42 (you just put the m42 adapter in the k/x adapter and boom) the camera is a 16mp sensor. You have a really good evf with peaking. You can also click the rear dial to zoom in for focusing. Images are very sharp and the jpeg film simulations, especially the custom ones, are stellar. The only thing missing is ibis but then, its only £90

I started reading and thought ..."hold on, isn't that......" Quite appropriate really, given the sad passing of terry Jones today. As for my confession, think of it as a reset. I have been eating at a Michelin star restaurant all this time and for some reason my constitution needed a dodgy kebab. All better now, I can't wait to get my KP on

Yashika auto yashinon 55mm f1.8. Incredibly sharp and the silver one is soooo pretty. I also have a tokina RMC 28mm f2.8 on a Fuji X-E1 and it is astonishing for such a cheap lens, although, saying that, prices have recently doubled so maybe the secret is out

I have a confession! Someone local got their camera bag grabbed by a smackrat and ever since I have had a morbid fear of the same happening to me, so, I bought a Fuji X-E1 (16mp xtrans, rangefinder, evf) for £90 and a k mount adapter with aperture control for £20. I can now use any of my lenses on it :) the idea was, a cheap kit for dodgy places. Trouble is, I have fallen in love with the system! The jpegs are incredible! Anyway, I am in Sheffield (mini monster territory ) and I left my KP and fishy at home. I am back tomorrow and will be overdosing on Pentax to cure this surge of Fuji love :) thing is, I could sell all of my Pentax gear and end up with one body and maybe two lenses, which is ludicrous, especially as my KP has features Fuji owners can only dream of. Anyhoo, I think next month I will just do the daily in. I am hankering for my 18-135 and limited! They will put this upstart Fuji in its place

Aha, well, k&f concept do an adapter that moves the aperture bar at the back of the lens. You are guesstimating to a degree but it does mean I can use every AF lens I use and control the aperture :D

I have put my 40mm xs on eBay to raise cash to pay for a Fuji X-E1 that I have already purchased. I thought it would be fun, before it sells, to pair them up. I am now considering removing the listing, it was that good

Well! That was an eye opener! I have owned the Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar for ages but I never really used it. The lens needs a flanged adapter, thankfully I have two :) it is such a labour intensive lens to use so it slowed me down a lot. Last month I used the KP with the Pentax-M 135mm and it wasn't a great success so I approached this with trepidation. I needn't have worried because, on the silver KP, it was as fabulous as it looked, in fact, it has become my favourite M42 lens.

Happy new year guys. Thanks for all the support and I will see you next month, next year, tomorrow!

That's actually quite a good ratio :) I guess the ones we notice are the core posters. It is good to know that the stats suggest we get keepers. So, how many members are there? Maybe we need to put the answer in the "are we really that rare" thread lol

I suspect forums for the mainstream cameras have more lightweights. I have always found this forum to be exceptionally down to earth. The only time you see much tetchiness .... Is that how you spell it? lol, anyway, lack of understanding only rears its head at competition time when the proportion of empty threads, that are little more than post generators, increases exponentially. I guess that is understandable, given that we pride ourselves on our high standards of information, detail and support. Everyone has a place here, which makes this forum very special indeed.

Try this
Av, rear dial = aperture, front dial set to exposure comp, top dial set to iso, exposure button set to exposure lock and back button focus. That took me round Cadiz :)

A two fish eye single in :) that will be fun :) I have hardly used mine and have no idea what I will get. I am rather looking forward to it :) I am actually starting early. The 50mm has gone away and the 10-17 is coming out tomorrow. I have a decorated church to shoot. There may well be a few church shots as it lends itself rather well to that kind of thing :)

No

I just bought a Fuji xe1and a pk adapter. I don't have any Ks but I have Ms, (50 +135mm) an A (35-80) and a couple of 3rd party k mount (tokina 28mm f2.8 and a fabulous Miranda (cosina) 28mm f2.8 macro). The idea of the Fuji is 1) cheap, £110 inc adapter, for days when I don't want to carry £1k+ worth of kit, & ii) old school rangefinder photography. Should be fun

Hi
My name is Peter and I am from ...... Pretty much anywhere that doesn't set the police on me :)

We get an upsurge of welcomes at competition time and the cynic in me wonders the same as the OP. It would be annoying if a grand prize went to someone only here for a week! Thankfully the first two went to very active and helpful existing members, which is how it should be :) I know there is a very active competition culture who only care about the resale value of any prize, and I hate them accordingly as they stop prizes going to people who, in some cases, need them! If the K-new goes to boriscleto or Sandy Hancock or pepperberry, or another active member I will be delighted. Fingers crossed

I use to have a pocketable camera (Olympus stylus 1s) but it was a small sensor so it went to pay for my KP. So, needing something cheap as chips for days when I donít want to take out 1k worth of Pentax apsc, I started looking at the Fuji x100! For a cute but old and flawed camera those are really expensive! So I got a 16mp Fuji X-E1 and a k&f concept k mount adapter with aperture ring for £129. Rangefinder loveliness rocking my K mount glass! Thatíll do nicely
