I too, nominate this shot. I really do like that bokeh-snow and you've done a great job of capturing a winter street.

Liking the first shot there, and how the reflections of the two people are slightly distorted by the water :)

Ugh seriously? I linked them from flickr first (which didn't show up once I posted it) then again from imgur (which also didn't show up when I posted it) and then I finally directly attached them through the forums and they show up at least for me... here's a link to the set on Flickr. I have no idea why it's being so finicky tonight.

Thanks for the heads up though :)

Been imagining this shoot in my head for a week now, finally got to go out and shoot it this afternoon. I have to say, the DOF on the 01 still astounds me sometimes to this day, really happy with how it renders the greens of the wood into a nice blur. That and I just love how her eyes have such an intense color to them, but then again I'm a bit biased as these are pictures of my girlfriend :p
I still think they're pretty good though ;)

Gorgeous shots all throughout and looks like a fun trip. I'm a bit jealous >_<

I hope I get to travel again with my Q soon, I didn't use it much when I went to New York in the fall and I've regretted it ever since. I'd love another go at it.
Also, you use the Q to great effect, inspires me :)

Is the 01 worth it if you have the 02?

I'd agree with some of the others here that the 01 is kind of just part of the Q in a way. I shoot mainly street photography and a little bit of landscape/lifestyle, so the 01 is good for me because I'm either shooting people and the wide angle is great for framing as I walk by, or I'm shooting a landscape and getting the whole vista is easy with the wide angle.

Other than that the Q just seems at it's best when shooting at 1.9, it's just feels sort of how it's meant to be shot. Like, I have the 06 and while it's a really useful tool, I've come to appreciate shooting with a prime so much more. My sister has the 02 because it came with her Q10, and from the brief time I've spent with it I don't think I'd ever need to buy one of my own. The 01's focal length is just perfect for my style of shooting.

I'd definitely recommend you get it (and it looks like you did so congrats.) I think shooting with a prime is a powerful way to shoot, and I'm pretty sure it helps you learn as well because you really need to focus on framing and where you need to move and go in order to get the right shot. With a kit zoom lens like that come with most system cameras I don't feel like you get as into the creation of the shot, and as a result I don't think you learn and grow as much.

I'm really glad the OG Q came with the 01 initially as the kit lens, it's the best IMO.
Cheers, enjoy your 01 :)

Yeah, if I'm honest the biggest reason I went for it was because it just looked so damn nice :p but it's a seriously high quality piece of kit.

Hey guys,

I was looking for a good camera bag to use with the Q recently and found the ONA Bowery after a few weeks of debating whether the price was worth it or not I decided to pick it up, and have been using it for a couple weeks now.

Here is my "review" of the bag. I think it's a really awesome option for a Q kit, especially if you buy a couple more dividers from ONA so that you can keep the Q and all it's tiny lenses organized.

Cheers,
~M

Yeah, I just dug one out of my basement. It's a black one too so it matches my black Q nicely :) The only fear I'd have is that they might drop it, but it sounds like you've had good luck with it.

I've been meaning to pick up a strap, but you know what? That sounds like a great (and cheap) way to do it, especially because I have a bunch of those lying around with my Wii collecting dust. I wouldn't have even thought of that, thanks :)

I personally have large hands and have no issues wrapping my hands around the Q. It's a completely comfortable camera for me and I can reach all the buttons and controls just fine without fear of dropping the thing. That being said, my hands are large but thin, so those who have meatier mitts might have issues that I don't.

Here's a picture of me holding it the way I usually do:

Then just imagine my left hand wrapped around to steady the cam and turn the focus ring. Seems to work pretty great for me.

cheers,

I agree. I'm so glad I found this place when I picked up my Q a year ago. It's been good inspiration and a great resource when I need info or help.

Here's a shot from yesterday, this guy seems pretty relaxed too ;)

Went out street shooting for the first time with my new viewfinder.
I was super excited to shoot pseudo-rangefinder style and out of all the shots which didn't turn out so well, I think I might have gotten a few which are "gold." At least for me.

This one is my absolute favorite, It's the exact kind of shot I was looking for today with a full range of greys, a nice subject ( I love that long stride and it's shadow) and good composition.

This second one is a shot I snagged of these two people as they were walking along the diag in downtown Ann Arbor. They were discussing vinyl records and so whenever I see this shot I think of them talking about it. I had to literally power walk along behind them in order to get this shot. Well worth it.

The third is one I'm sure we can all relate to. I spied this photographer hauling his gear somewhere from the inside of the art museum. I was in a room where we weren't supposed to take photographs, but I took the risk to get this shot anyways.

It was a great day and I had an awesome time, I can't wait to go out shooting like this again.

Traditional Street Shooting Setup?
Posted By MykeBatez

Hey Guys,
I just ordered an old Yashica OVF (similar to the one in this bundle) and it got me wondering what a good setup for traditional rangefinder-style shooting would be with the Q.

I already know you can turn off the LCD by double-pressing the info button and I'd like to do that along with using the OVF. From there I'm left wondering what lens I should be using in order to manually zone-focus in the traditional rangefinder style. I looked around on Ebay and found an old Pentax 28mm 2.8 wide angle m42 lens that might be good but with the Q's crop factor it wouldn't be so wide-angle anymore...

Just was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of a lens that I could use to experiment with this rangefinder style of shooting. I'd also love to hear what you guys' street setups look like.

Thanks guys :)

...And the results are in folks! I received the lens about a week ago and I've been experimenting with it ever since.
Here are a few of the shots I've taken, not all of them have turned out so good, but I assume thats part of the experience with this lens.
Hope you guys like em,

Oh yeah, I've already looked at Canon and Nikon's offerings and decided I like Pentax's much more. The value is better and as far as I can tell Pentax has by far the best menu system out of the 3. I'm looking at getting a K30 or K50 sometime in the next year.

Awesome! Thanks for the links. It's rather daunting delving into all the old lenses and trying to figure out what the crop factor will turn them into on the Q.
The help is much appreciated, and I bet I'll pick up one of those soon. Probably starting with the supertele and then filling in the closer range with the 200-400mm.
Also it's a good point about using them on a Pentax DSLR. I might get a K50 towards the end of this year and I'd still get to use them then :)

Yeah, I went with the 35mm for now, but I would be interested in seeing if there are any super tele's that are longer than the 06 Telephoto. I don't have any old K-gear or anything so getting a really long-reaching lens, maybe a C mount, would nicely fill out my lens setup for the Q.

Just ordered this tonight along with yet another Wasabi Power battery ( never can have too many). I'm excited to see how the lens performs, especially with that macro ring.

Only unfortunate part is that I have to wait 17-28 business days for it to ship from across the pond.
Once it gets here I'll be sure to post a test shot or two :)
