It should be noted, this isn't just a Pentax problem. Many brands have this issue when using electronic shutter.

Pentax K-1 II and Capture One

I've never used Capture 1, so I can't say much on that, but generally I think using some sort of a preset may very well work, but then your work will look very similar to others who use the same presets. IMO, develop your own look, create your own profile (if you want / need one) and tweak each file accordingly. People will want to hire you based on your unique look, and possibly not so much for a more generic look that is similar to others. Some food for thought for you. :-)

Pentax K5 - faster shutterspeeds than the sync speed of 1/180 for dog portraits

As others have said, if you're in a studio environment with little ambient light, you can freeze motion. Jumping dog, or something else. See my example here on 500px. Hair fling froze with 1/160 second.

Shooting in snow will definitely throw off your meter readings if you're shooting in priority modes. (AV in your case) I did up this short article a couple years ago, so have a read. Hopefully you find it of some use.

You don't actually have to go into LV to do it. This works, but not needed. The button to press to switch out how the 4 way works is just above the 4 way. I believe it's the right most one. Don't have camera with me, so can't 100% be sure.

Repeatability of image in focus using non-central focusing points on K-1

Are you doing these tests wide open? I don't know the characteristics of this lens, but maybe it's not so much missing focus, but maybe it's just not as sharp off center wide open. Not uncommon with a lot of lenses, so perhaps this is the issue, generally not sharp in the area of question vs missed focus..??

Improving battery life on K-1

Here is a test I did with my K-1 that might be of some interest. It should give you an idea of how many shots you can potentially get doing interval shooting. When I did these tests, I had most things turned off, but I did forget to turn off the GPS, so that was also drawing power during the tests I did. Hope you find it useful.

One of my first ones with the K-1. One thing I learned from this is even if you have the camera in full manual, you might get flicker in your final product. It seems it was due to slight exposure variations between frames, most likely because the actual aperture on the lens isn't 100% consistent. Now when I play about, I use old manual lenses so the aperture doesn't change between frames.

Mine is the same. Slot one sticks. I find it works best ejecting from the corner of the card vs the center, then it hardly ever sticks.

This is actually where I got the lens from. An old Praktica camera. I'll mount it on my K-1 for fun, just to see how good or bad it really is. Can't hurt to try. I was looking on E-bay Canada and was surprised they were selling upwards of $100, especially for a F4.5 lens. Might be a good time to sell it. lol

Has anyone ever tried out this lens? Can't find it in the review database and couldn't find any posts for that specific lens. Might give it a try on the K-1, but curious if others have played with it and what they thought of it.

Looks like support has been added for K1 mark II. (RAW Files) Thought those with this camera would be interested in knowing it's now supported. (minus the pixel shift of course)

Shooting at 2.8 and 70mm, your DOF can be shallow. I've had shots where the shirt if sharp, but the face isn't and it's because of this. If I get the eye in focus, then sometimes even the tip of the nose is out of focus. The longer the focal length, the more noticeable this will become wide open.

K-1 stabilization vs Olympus e-m1 mark 1 stabilization: is Oly really that good?

Exactly this. 100% agree. If the person getting 2 seconds on the Olympus had a Pentax, he might very well be able to replicate the results.

I shoot Pentax because I love being different and don't follow the crowd. lol Sure there are some limitations, but any photographer worth their salt can work around it instead of trying to find the easy way out. I find typically the ones that jump ship, end up not being happy because of some limitation of the brand they switch too, and jump ship again and again instead of learning and working around the quirks. I'm still debating upgrading my K-1 to the Mark II, but time will tell.

Not sure if you're looking for suggestions for additions to the software, but I wonder if there would be any interest in adding an intervalometer option. I've been playing a bit with doing timelapse, and I find the built in one isn't that reliable, and I end up using my wired one. That being said, phone might have to be in range of the camera for it to work, but still might be something to consider. I'd be interested in others opinions on this idea.

I agree that the shutter wouldn't be replaced, but if the main board is replaced, then odds are the chip that stores the count is on the main board, so there fore the count would probably end up back to a very low number. (depending on how many test shots the repair center does)

---------- Post added 03-07-2018 at 01:52 PM ----------

This is basically what I suspect is true. As someone else mentioned, most K1 camera's probably don't have a lot of accuations on them yet, but the potential is there for a high count to be reset.

Regarding the new K-1 Mark II. If one was to do the upgrade to their current K-1 to bring it up to the Mark II version, would the camera's shutter count get reset? If so, then buying a used converted one down the road, you might never know the true shutter count of the camera.

I might consider it, but not until I see if the claims are as good as they say. If they are, then I might consider it. If it's all hot air, and doesn't work as well as they claim, then probably not.

K5iis live view with M42 lens

So I can go into live view, but I can't get the zoom function to work for fine tuning my focus, I know there is no focus peaking, but wonder about zooming in just to fine tune as well as I can, but can't seem to get it to work. Also in Live View, the screen seems to change automatically so you can see the screen, but I'd prefer it change based on actual exposure. I'm using an old M42 lens and I can quickly change exposure with the green button, but don't want my back screen changing based on my view vs actual exposure.
