KS-1 & the OGPS1

Hi

I take Industrial Archaeology shots and haven't had a problem with locating the shot afterwards until now. I can't find the physical location of a shot I took about three weeks ago.

I tought I'd buy the OGPS-1 for the KS-1 Camera that I have but some information says that it does work & other information says that it needs some sort of other card to work.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks.

Well, the project was a general failure, I'm afraid. I couldn't get through the crowd and I had floodlights staring straight at the lens if I could get close. So, there was a restaurant nearby at an elevated elevated position that I'll use with permission for our "Greenwell Point Gazette."
But, I'm really interested now in low light photography. I seem to have the equipment, so I'll work on the skill. Maybe next year I'll be able to get myself into an "official" position.

So, thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.

The F50 was the best by far. However, I found that there was a "list." The Tripod was broken.

So, I'll take the F50 and I think the Sigma although it hunts. But I could accept the suggestion and manually focus. Anyway, a new tripod today and more practice tonight. Strangely, Silky pix won't identify the len's except for "A" lens.

Thank you very much. I'll get down there tomorrow and put it into practice. There'll be no-one there so I might take the computer and see what transpires. There'll be no artificial light as there will be on the night but I'll see how it goes.

If it's not too much of a disaster, i'll certainly post here.

I can use the tripod as a monopod, I suppose. Plus, if i get there early enough, I can get a spot at the front.

Maybe, if I get a Dick Tracey hat with a "press" note on the brim, I might get even closer.

Thanks again.

Graeme

Hi

Our regular photographer is away and I've been asked to cover the ANZAC Day service for our local Gazette.

It's the Dawn Service to honour our Serviceman that have served Countries, Australia & New Zealand through the various wars.

So, I need some advice and I've only one morning left to practice.

It starts before dawn and continues shortly after. The sun rising is spectacular and I certainly want to capture that. I might have a crack at video. It's pretty dark but there will be electric lighting about.

The distance will be between 40 metres & about 10.

Heaps of people so a tripod might be difficult to manage but I'm taking one.

Lenses I have are a Pentax F50 1:1.7. Super Tak F50 1:1.4. Pentax M28 1:2.8. The Kit lens and a Sigma Zoom 18 - 50. 2.8 although I haven't had much success with this lens in any light.

I've a flash but I don't think that will be acceptable. In fact, I'm sure it won't.

Any advice will be helpful, particularly ISO. I don't have time to experiment.

Camera KS-1

Thank you.

Graeme

Well, thank you all for the input; particularly yours, ChristanRock for that advice & the knowledge that it's actually me, not the equipment. Yep, it does look like a snapshot; I need not to be so lazy.

I usually take shots in .JPG & .PEF, deleting .PEF if I can't do anymore with it. I might need to spend a weekend going back to basics with the Takumar 50mm f1:1.4 & the 28mm 2.8. Then get a hood for the kit lens and give the Sigma 18-50/ 2.8 another go.

Thanks again.

Hi

I'm continually getting out of focus (non-sharp) shots. It's sharp through the viewfinder and I've tried various lenses including the kit lens, a Sigma 18-50 f2.8 & a few heritage (manual focus) lenses. Tried with & without shake reduction.

Yep! I bought it second hand to replace the K10D.

Any ideas?

Thanks. I use a lot of manual lenses so the split screen works well with them. Any advice on which one would be the best choice on the Pentax list? Katz Eye, I noticed have ceased production, which is a shame.

I've recently passed on my revered K10D to my son & bought a KS-1. I had a split screen for the K10D but I can't seem to find one for the KS-1. Any ideas?

This is very good news. I would imagine that Pentax had a hand in it or I would hope.

When I went from XP to Vista, it was a nightmare that I only awoke from on discarding my Canon hardware. The result of that is that I will never buy Canon equipment again. I felt that they were making their equipment redundant.

On Windows 7, I couldn't get the Remote to work on the K10D (some on this forum have, however) and I found that it was unsupported in by Windows 7 by Pentax so I downloaded a third party.

We can't expect manufactureres to update their equipment in perpetuity for free, but if some of us are unwilling or unable to update perfectly servicible equipment, then there should be a way to do so, even if it has to be paid for.

SMC Pentax-M lens 'stuck' to largest aperture on K10D

Ah! Ha! Thank you very much.

It works. Well, that saved a camera & a lens from some damaging mechanical interference. :D.

The three lenses I have (+ a 2x tele) are shown with a P30 Camera. I have had these from yesterday when my wife was having a bit of a scavenge (which is how she got me :) )during our six monthly council cleanup where you throw your rubbish on the footpath & the council pick it up. (Unless my wife gets there first)

The lenses were in their original leather cases except for the Tokina RMC 80-200 which was attached to the camera. The lenes are an M 28 - 2.8 & M 50 - 1.4. I have a couple of M42's (50 1.4 & 135 3.5) and I thought that they would operate the same way.

They are all a bit grubby but I couldn't see any evidence of fungus but I'll have a closer look before I store them with the others.

Interestingly, there were instruction manuals for a Canon Rebel & other Canon peripherals. Someone must have got there first & decided that the Pentax deserved to stay. Lucky me.

SMC Pentax-M lens 'stuck' to largest aperture on K10D

Thanks Pio Rico

So, I would need to remove the lever that extends into the camera to operate the aperture ring? Have I got that right?

Hmmm! I'm just wondering if there's something wrong with my Camera. When I fit the lens, the aperture becomes wide open and connot be changed regardless of what I do with the aperture ring.

Same problem but on attaching the M len, the apperture opens fully and can't be closed. I have three M lens & it happens with all of them. All lens' work on a P30. I have changed to "Aperture permitted" and use in "M" mode.

Thanks

Ricoh to buy Pentax camera business from Hoya

My first SLR was a Ricoh XR-M. I've still got it and if they had made the same camera into a digital, I'd be still using it. I use the lenses now on my K10D.

If Ricoh want to buy Pentax, then they must be serious about re-entering the SLR market because there's not a lot Pentax has in point & shoot.

I'm very positive about it.

I'd be happy with manual focus. It would replace my M 28mm 2.8 which is becoming attached to my K10D by molecular attraction.

My solution to an identical problem & maintain budgetry constraints is a Pentax M28 f2.8. I use it more than the kit. I also use the Supertak 50mm f1.4 & was fortunate enough to score an F50mm f1.7 very cheaply for autofocus. There is a Pentax 28mm f2.0 but it's a fortune.

The Zenit Helios range 58mm 1:2 44M- (x) have been getting a lot of very positive comments on the manual focus forums of late. Now, they are cheap; I got one for $20 (ding in filter ring). I bought it only to check the infinity focus on my 50/1.4 Super Tak with the adapter I had. I'll give it a run on it's own when I get the chance. But at that price, you can't go too wrong.

I'm very grateful for this thread. I was lucky enough to get hold of a F50 f/1.7 about two years ago attached to an SF7 for $80.

I was tossing up wether or not to sell it to fund an FA50 f/1.4.

Having a super tak 50 f/1.4 already was stopping me.

I think now, I'll stick with what I've got. :)

In the words of another, on a forum far, far away, try the Tamron zooms 70-210 19AH SP or the SP 60-300.

They actually think that they are primes.

My favorite would be the M28/2.8 I bought from this forum. It's sharp, light & a great focal length for outdoor shots on the K10D.

The only time I don't use it is when I need a different focal length or faster.
