I forget where I read it, but earlier today I saw this story and it was a $300 charge and only on their new Contemporary/Art/Sport range. All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up until the official press release...

Loving the purple colour cast on the first one, makes me think of lavender on the Scottish moors. Was it natural light or a filter/WB/PP? Really like the cheetah too.

Another point worth noting is that the 35mm DA Limited is a macro lens, so if close-ups are your thing it's a good option.

prime question

I have a 28mm SMC-A, a 40mm DA Limited, a 50mm Lensbaby (and previously a 50mm SMC-A) and a K 55mm. I tend to shoot street and landscape, and I guess the 40mm has spent the least time in my bag recently (partly due to autofocus and being ludicrously small). But I find the 28mm a very useful length too. The 50 and 55 rarely see much camera time, except for portraits. Its worth mentioning that I also shoot on film, where the 28 is a fair bit wider and the 55 gets a lot more use (not too far off the field of view of a 35mm on APS-C). I find myself yearning for a wider option, maybe a 15 or thereabouts (close to a 24mm on full-frame). The only zoom I use often is the 17-28mm fisheye, which I use almost exclusively at 17mm (27mm equivalent on full-frame).

So my advice to the OP would be around a 28mm or 30mm for near-normal focal length, and around a 15mm for wide. The 50 is great for portraits and short-tele stuff.

I think all 3 are fairly unlikely. Unless anyone knows otherwise...

Pentax K-500

For the record, the motor industry does exactly the same thing (as someone mentioned earlier). Lotus have used three or four different engines in it's Elise sports car in the last decade, all of which can also be found in a range of much more dull and practical cars. A car is more than just an engine, just as a camera is more than just a sensor.

I'm hoping for retro OM-D-esque styling, K1000 student-friendly simplicity and a battery grip.

Point of interest, you can thread a 49mm filter on this lens.

Will have to find somewhere else to shop!

I'm not sure if I'm sad about this or not. Certainly lots of people loosing their jobs is bad, and more empty shops on Britain's high streets is not helping either. But I never liked shopping in Jessops - poor staff, little or no Pentax, no used stuff, and all the smaller items on hooks were behind security tags so you had to ask someone to let you read the back of the box. And hopefully it will force more people into better camera stores (and not towards Currys, Argos etc), thereby helping the rest of the industry.

I wonder what will happen to the Jessops stock; massive Ebay sale perhaps?

I will be living in Galway in about three days time, so I too will be out there shooting (but not buying) Pentax. Actually, since I just finished university and am now paying for my wedding and moving countries I don't have any money left anyway. Maybe in a few months when I've got some pay cheques in my pocket...

I'd suggest the DA 18-135mm WR. It's pricey, but you wouldn't need the 18-55mm WR any more.

The Mysteries of a Pentax Camera Strap

Hate to burst y'all's bubble, but the strap keeper is tapered so they can get it out of the mould at the factory. Injection moulded plastic parts are a very tight fit in their moulds, and parallel sides would make it nigh-on impossible to get them out.

As in, an APS-C Pentax lens on a full-frame Canon body? No wonder it doesn't work. The lens has a 45.46mm register distance while the body has a 44mm register distance; granted 1.5mm isn't much, but it's probably enough to alter the optical performance to some degree.

Forgive me if I've misunderstood...

Kr in a hot car (hey, that rhymes :) )

Well, I guess a UK heatwave is not quite an Arizona heat wave, but it can get well into the 90s and top 100 on occasion. Certainly hot enough to get my car too hot to be in for five minutes.

We've been having a bit of a heat wave for the last few days, and I was wondering about the affect of leaving my Kr in the car all day. It can get pretty warm in a car in the sun, and I don't want to kill my camera.

And the odd thing is, only a short while after this first occurred to me, I went to get my camera from the car (which was very hot), turned it on and the screen was almost white. I could still see the menus and such, it was as if the contrast and brightness had been turned way up. I immediately turned it off and back on again and it was fine, with no problems since.

ME Super film door popped open :(

I was in my car the other day, with my ME Super sitting on the seat next to me. I went to put it under my seat as I was getting out and didn't want it on show, and the edge of the film door caught on my shirt and popped open. Needless to say the four or five shots I'd already taken are ruined, but I was wondering if there is a problem with the door latch or if it's just a minor design flaw.

Idea for new feature

Wherever they fit and are easily accessible (unlike the red and green buttons on the K01).

Three is the highest number humans can work with instinctively (i.e. without mental effort). Plus two is not enough and four is too many, atmo.

Differentiate by feel, same as any other button.

Give people two or three standard options for common functions, then let them change them if they want.

Can anyone explain why there are 14 points in the star? The DA15 has 7 aperture blades, if it had 9 would there be 18 points?

Battery Grip?

Any idea if the K30 will take a battery grip? It's one of the few things I really dislike about my Kr, and one of the main reasons to ditch it.

This is the only shot I could find on Pentax's UK website that shows the base of the body, can't see if there are any contacts.

I guess it would be Nikon for me too. To make it worth my while I'd go for a full-frame model with full AI and AI-S compatibility (unlike my other half's D3000 which barely qualifies as a decent camera IMHO). For my needs and desires, being able to use old (affordable but awesome) lenses is a must, so Canon can go take a long walk. Having said that, if I actually had the money for a new setup I'd get a Leica M9 and keep my Pentax kit.

My two weirdest are my Lensbaby and my FA 17-28 fisheye zoom. Not weird at all compared to some...

I don't think I'll be buying any zooms any time soon, I just enjoy the constraint of shooting primes (the 17-28 I only really use at 17mm, and I've kept my 55-300 only because it's the longest lens I have).

Good cheap negative scanner ?

Sorry for the minor hijacking, but when you say flatbed scanners do you mean regular home/office scanners? I have an HP printer/scanner/copier which is ok for printing 8x10s from digital, and I'd like to be able to scan and print my negs too. I guess the thing to do is give it a try and buy something better if it turns out like garbage.
