Pentax HD 645 D-FA 35mm f3.5 or SMC Pentax FA 35mm f3.5

no difference, besides 9blades vs 8blades, no impact on at least 90% of shootings styles. smc coating for 645 FA is already a high end coating.

hi Barondla, i'll test to confirm this in a day or two . until then i dont't see why auto aperture wouldn't work with the TC and the extension tubes. Otherwise , what's for sure , the helicoid adapter won't work for aperture control. i do ask myself at what extent the internal Shake reduction will be effective with tubes or extenders

The MH-RA 49 from the 43mm limited works very well on the FA 50mm with protecting the front element, it's discrete and no vignetting at all on full frame.
You can easily find it new from 25 to 30 USD or EUR.

Should I buy a 645z or not?

Then why not try the 645D first ? They come around 1.000 -1200 € in pro stores in France at least. The CCD sensor can have some advantages over the CMOS, depending on the photography you're planning for the 645 system. This way you can keep the K1 FF system and enjoy a cheaper 645D with two second hand lenses. The setup may cost you under 2.000€ with the 645 FA120mm macro included.

Short answer : Yes.
Long answer : Yes, if you have the €€€ for the lenses. The 25mm, 35mm, 45-85mm and 90mm & 120mm (this last one is cheap) are above anything made for FF or APSC.
The only drawback with the Z is the absence of Tilt-Shift for some rare architectural stuff.
Otherwise, no complaints. Have 2, one + 220.000 clicks and the other +100.000. (harsh weather outdoor shootings included) . No mechanical or electrical faults, no software or hardware errors. Never ever.
Go for it.

hi, nice item but honestly doesn't worth more than 150usd.
owned it for a couple of months so i could compare it with the cheap sony fe 28mm f2.
the sony is better in all aspects.
there's nothing crazy about the lens today, maybe at that time used on old non af dslr it was great. I paid 100€ for it, i wouldn't pay more, i sold it back for the same price.
my advice, wait for a better priced one..

Maximize the capabilities of your 645z

645Z's sensor -> 14bit. just like Fuji's GFX50.

(Hasselblad claims on some recent models sensor : 16bit. but.. the 2+ bits of data don't seem hardware related).
So, i understand that for some applications a photographer wishes 16bit TIFFS instead of 8bit ones when shooting with a 14bit depth sensor, and would be afraid of banding issues in color tones.
But also, actually, most printing is done taking 8bit data.

So, what seems to me more important it's the color gamut size.
Good gamut & 8bit work perfectly fine for 99% of the cases, unless of course some rare very rare cases when dealing with special, really special & complex color tones or if you need to make some huge tonal adjustments.

Love the Tamron adaptall 2 135mm 2.5 03B "Close Focus".
Bought it for 20€ in a flea market in 2012.

It's the only manual lens i still use on Pentax.
A nice casual portrait taken in 2012 with a blue filter and on par with a K20D on the first day i started using it. This is why i keep it and still use it :)

That seller is expensive ! Seen two 645Ds that were sold second hand in november & december in France in photo professional stores with 3 and 6 months warranty for 1,000€ incl VAT.

645Ds prices are dropping , good news for those who want to play with a not-so-old spectacular camera with a spectacular CCD sensor.

Mea culpa, went too fast into misleading Linkedin information, there are 2 company profiles R I Europe. One stating +500 employees, the other R I Europe LTD with 55 registered employees.

So it must me somewhere 50+ for Ricoh Imaging Europe

Apologies , a bit late to correct the 1st post.

Also, maybe, but I don't know if the employees working for Ricoh industrial printers or screens that i met while going to 2 tech events in the past years work there too, but they seemed very very nice, capable and pros.

At that time i thought of buying a Latex printer from them for the company but i revised as the projects finally didn't seem to be worth it. Although they have great printers (check out Ricoh L5100 series, outstanding stuff, pricey enough)

On the other hand,I totally understand what you're talking about.
it's been 25 years I live in Paris, but not continuously as i moved around in other european countries for work for different periods but it's been my HQ.
I don't sympathize either with a sort of "superiority" many french citizens show and feel around citizens born in other countries living on "their" soil. It's the main reason i never asked for french citizenship, and still don't, although i could obtain it easily and could've obtained it easily 20 years ago.
But anyway, in photo industry & business, photo people and art people, the french are almost all different from the "superior" french beings.

and usually in scientific related areas or research, or culture related areas, same case too. :)

Can Over-Exposure Damage a Sensor?

Sensors are supposed to have layers of protection . In any case, typical light over exposure can't hurt a sensor. What can damage depends on the type of rays hitting it. Direct sunlight, on Earth, with the the atmosphere protection, most probably won't. It all depends on the wave length of your source of light. For instance , you can put ten 1000W flashes of any duration, at full power pointing to your camera, your sensor will outlive the experience .

This lens is a gem.
Using it mainly for sports , concerts, wildlife. It's really fast, AF is fast, image quality is superb.
It's impressive at 300mm against the fa* 300mm 4.5, it's impressive at 200mm against the fa*80-200mm 2.8. Actually it's impressive overall against many fixed focals also at all focal lengths.
It's a marvelous lens.
you're selling it because you managed to find something better on pentax K or you've switched brands? i can hardly see a better equivalent on pentax K, even when additioning 2 lenses.

Problem is their Europe HQ are right here (near, i mean in really close suburbs) of Paris, France. (20min drive from my home and studio in Paris, 10km away).

Ricoh Imaging Europe has a pretty big and nice building, and, as stated on linkedin, +500 employees here.
Paris was, is, and always will be a capital city for photography with worldwide impact.
This must also be one of the many reasons why the company's headquarters for Europe is here.

So why parisian pros suffer from the lack of support or bad support for their Ricoh Imaging gear it's a bit strange, isn't it?

On format equivalence (again)

OK thanks. i understand much better, i thought it was more complex than this.
All i can recommend, thus you maybe don't need this reco, for printing large prints with sharpening in post process: "cleaning" the image is an important step before sharpening. It's sometimes fairly long to do. Topaz's "AI" will not give those great results many photographers dream of, if a proper image cleaning is not done before. Very well known 3rd party filters are nice on screens but for large prints they rarely shine.

So you had this issue with 2 prints out of how many? because if the issue is not on other prints, i don't see the relationship with dof.
It could be a printer related problem, also sometimes accentuated out of focus can be caused by color paletes involved in printing process in particular color schemes , pixel data / areas transmitted and processed vs screen view.
I would look more into the color data differencies between your 2 prints and the other ones.
or,even more simple: just test the 2 images in B&W, grayscale whatever and print em B&W grayscale. I'm 99,9 % sure you'll realize it's not about dof.

Not all pros are dissing Pentax. Within my close circle in Paris, we are 4 working on 645Zs. Three of us are between 30-40yo. The 4th is older and not really Working . His camera is on a local website waiting for a buyer since 2020.
It's more Ricoh Imaging dissing pros here. Not having good support , nothing special done for or around the pros. for examble it takes 2 months changing a shutter on a K1. I see all the big profesionnal shops here dumping Pentax for the same reasons. There are only 2 100% pro for pros stores left that keep distributing Pentax. And one offical store.
There's no clear brand ambassador program (we're 3 good shooters, pretty succesfull, pretty good, pretty well followed, we never had any return when asking for some parnership - 2 of us called Ricoh, emailed, instagrammed -and zero replies - and we never asked for anything in return, we were ok to do stuff for free) , it seems to me it's more a marketing strategy problem and a lack of support for serious and visible Ricoh / Pentax shooters on whom the brand could rely for more positive impact.

A newborn is always good news and a reason to upgrade or improve your equipement ! :)
Godox are the best. They're top notch, very agressive on the market, top brands like profoto and elinchrom are already loosing pro market parts because of godox, at least here in europe.
BUT , for the sake of your newborn : limit flash, or at least no direct flash light. Not good for his eyes, not good for his brain. Better use indirect continuous light. And quickly offer him sunglasses for next summer, best easy way to preserve his eyesight developpement.

D-LI109 battery on D-BC90 charger

Well, this is where the magic happens, if you push the Dli109 in the DBC90 charger with just a little punch it fits perfectly.
I finished charging 2 Dli109s they seem in perfectly good shape. And the green dot appears on charge then stops when charge is done.

---------- Post added 12-08-21 at 07:13 PM ----------

I'll post an update after 3 complete cycles with Dli109s on the same Dbc90 charger , just to see if the combo stands in time.

suppose you're travelling with 2 cameras, one taking D-li90 batteries the other one D-li109 batteries.
While checking voltages and specs of their dedicated chargers D-BC90 & D-BC109, well, i realised i can theoretically charge D-li109 batteries on the D-BC90 charger, which means i can travel with one charger only for both batteries and cameras.
I found d-li109 charging very well on D-BC90.
Any thoughts?

HD FA 21 not on par with the other LTDs

Thank you for your kind reply, and thank you for spending precious time providing precious informations for the forum members. Please accept my apologies if somehow my last reply seemed a bit rude.

But i insist, it is particularly unpleasent, in 2021, when you have a sole line of production of a FF camera, to have to spend time fine AF adjusting a new 1.49K€ prime lens with calibration adjustment tools.
I mean if it's supposed to be a common issue, Ricoh should at least offer a Calibration Alignement Chart with the lenses. Now that they seem to stop providing any booklet or manual, a nice b&w rectangle with a nice rule for calibratring your newly received lens would seem pretty adequate.

Of course i will try a new 21mm ltd 2.4.

But i expect it to be perfect.

A lens is Not supposed to be made, de facto, for giving a style of photography. It's supposed to be perfect enough to give users the liberty of versatility and choice of doing their styleS of photography. If i want halos around a subject, if i want razor clinical stuff, if i want some feelings around a pic or stuff like "pop up 3D effect" (i'm still not sure what this stands for), as a photographer i am able to create this stuff with any lens with all the other means i have. We're not supposed to be lens "dependent" while expecting marvels From a lens. We just need perfect lenses for a price, the rest is up to us.

It's always pleasant to read you, and i appreciate enthousiam. But i'm more into photo work than photo entoushiam (thus i don't lack it. and i certainly don't lack any other technical knowledge in the photography field).

Before taking the Pentax step into medium format with the costly 645Z and the costly 90, 25, 28-45, (i had the 645D already with basic FA lenses and Hassies with P's on the back) then the K1, K1II with all their costy lenses i really enjoy and find marvelous (btw, i've got 2 K1ii waiting for parts fr repair as their shutter is dead after 5 & 6 months of use - so you understand the deal of work i do with a camera), back then i was enjoying the new mirrorless Sonys.

And I used the first A7/R/S with my old lenses in A mount with a sony adaptor.
With some very fine Minolta lenses and some killer Sony Zeiss glass.

One would expect much more need for AF microadjustment in this case Mirrorless+adaptor+Lenses than from a Pentax K1 / K1 II which comes in a sole line of production coupled with newly designed and new lenses made for K1 & K1ii like the ltd 21mm 2.4.
And guess what, all of the system, A7R/S + LAAE4+ Zeiss or Minolta glass was flawless (i abandoned the system as i couldn't bare electronic viewfinders and pocket sized A7s) and never needed any micro adjustement whatsoever.

Get the point?
Cheers mate

Actually, given the professional or fine art applications of medium format photography in 2021-2022, there is no need to upgrade from a 645Z. It's versatile for indoor , studio and outdoor. If you got the good lenses, the good lights and the good skills, there's no worth upgrading.
