Chris, I never understood why the MX was more popular than the KX. Little light bulb metering just isn't my thing, I guess.

I find the black and white treatment loses some of the depth of the scene compared to the colour treatment. Both are good, but the black and white seems flat compared to the colour.

The only reason I have gone to DSLR from SLR is because the film development has become redundant in most markets. I am using a K3, but the best camera for me in feel was the KX. I didn't like the MX because the finder readout was in steps rather than analog. My age might be a factor.

Hard to tell the rig in the photo: ketch or yawl? My brother had a Piver 42' trimaran with ketch rig and after cabin.

One time I got out at a bear jam in Waterton Lakes National Park (sister to US Glacier National Park) I was at the tail end of a long line up jam on Red Rock Canyon Road. A mother with twin cubs was foraging. I got a great shot of them, and use it for my desktop. I used a tripod, K10D and M 400 for the group shot from about 150 meters/yards away. Close enough for me.

How did you become a Pentaxian ?

I purchased an Asahi Pentax from a pawn shop in Vancouver, BC in 1961, with a Takumar 55 mm f/2.2 preset lens. A few months later I bought a Takumar 135 mm f/3.5 preset to go with it. I have never seen any reason to change my brand of camera, and am now using a K3.

PS: I took a photo of HMS Bounty II when she toured Vancouver from under the bridge in Stanley Park with an Orange #2 filter on the 135 to bring up the fumes of the little boats surrounding her. 2nd prize in the black and white contest from MGM: a camera bag and 10 rolls of film.

My '02 Tundra, bought new, just turned over 337,000 km (209,000 mi). No repairs needed that grounded the truck. Usual brakes, tires, bearings (rear axle -- I tow a single axle 5th wheel on less than paved roads -- hard on the teeth, too) and recommended maintenance. Max "cruising" speed while I have owned it 150 kph (90 mph) while hauling my wife 50 km (30 mi) with a post operation bleed in a knee replacement. She spent a week in hospitals but the knee came through ok. I must admit that the truck sure felt like it ENJOYED running at that speed - 3,000 RPM - red line is 5,400 on the 4.7 V8.

Digital film roll concept

I haven't seen anyone mention Sunny 16 on this thread. Try it with your digital; you might be surprised. Shutter Speed = 1/ISO setting. Here's my take on the concept (which I have used since 1954 approximately):
f/22: Beach in bright sun
f/16: Normal scene in bright sun: -- hence the name
f/11: Bright cloudy light
f/8: Cloudy
f/5.6: Dark cloudy
f/4: Miserable rainy lighting
f/2.8: Dawn or Dusk.

I just returned a week ago from a three day stay in the trailer on a beautiful lake popular with fisher people and birders. I took my whole kit with me. Didn't use the 12-24, took two shots with the 16-50 (one of each of our two camp sites) 40 or so with the Super Takumar 55/1.8, 20 with the M 400/5.6, and the rest with the DA 55-300ED for a total on the card of 85 shots. Maybe the days and years of shooting with Asahi Pentax, Pentax KX (film), SF-1 film, etc. make my mind work with the viewfinder to take better single shots. I enjoy the ability to make adjustments to the images like cropping and minor exposure changes that we used to do in the enlarger and printing phases with print film while still keeping the fine detail of reversal film. I do not enjoy going through hundreds of images and eliminating the losers.

Like backup warning cameras in the Rockies? They don't seem to handle snow very well.
