FA 100-300 vs Pentax 55-300 PLM

I had a DAL 55-300 which was leaps and bounds better than an FA 100-300. I'd stay away from the FA 100-300 if I were you. Huge, heavy, slow, and only sharp stopped way down near its minimum focus distance but not when focused at or near infinity.

My grip stays permanently attached since I have a lens down carry bag so the camera pretty much takes up the same amount of extra lens space with or without the grip attached. That's the beauty of the K200D, it's still pretty small even with a grip on it! But yeah, a lens would always take priority for me too :)

Just used my K200D today, and was just thinking about how great it feels in my hand, even without the extra battery grip attached. Does anyone else agree with me that the grip on the K200D is perfection, and with the exntended grip attached, absolute perfection?!

If this ever happens to my K30 I'd definitely try filing the horse shoe thingy as shown in a video tutorial, and if that didn't work, probably tear out whatever is in the camera body that contacts the lens aperture lever before I would risk crippling all my lenses.

K7 and K20 have no so great high iso performance so if you shoot in low light I would pass on these. K-x is a little better in the iso department but it also doesn't have pro model features and build like the other two do so it's a trade off. I'd personally suggest skipping such old models and get something equal or better than your K-500 if money allows. I like my K200d a lot but I can't deny my K-30 is a much more superior camera!

Bring both your 18-135mm and your 43mm. You may need the low light performance of the 43mm and it's not like it's that heavy or takes up that much space. On my trip to Germany, Austria, and France I took a couple years ago I never felt the need for more than 77mm but a wide angle lens was very necessary.

Is it possible to use the K50 firmware file on the Ricoh website to update a K30? What is different about the link to the file in this thread?

They have some 645Z's, 10% off one of those would be a lot of savings

It is a bit difficult to use in smaller indoor places with a crop sensor, not too much different than an 85mm field of view imo.

For 100$ K10D or K200D?

I don't remember if I extensively tried to calibrate the focus or not, but that on top of how much larger and heavier than it was compared to my K30 caused me to send it back. My K200D focuses nearly as accurate as my K30 so maybe the K10D defective or had been dropped since I bought it used.

I prefer the K200D. After using both cameras I concluded the K10D was too big and heavy and its auto focus was obviously much slower and inaccurate compared to the K200D, so away it went. The K200D is still around.

Tried mild soapy water and even a little windex and the spots are still there. Any other suggestions for a cleaning agent? Also, I just remembered I have a spanner to remove watch case backs but sadly the prongs were too wide. The inside of the lens actually isn't nearly as bad as the outside though so I may give up trying to open it. Could it have locktite holding it together?

I don't mind dust. But won't chemicals remove any coatings on a lens? Or is this lens so old it doesn't have any?

I tried a pair of scissors that fit really well but even after quite a bit of force it didn't budge. I may have to purchase a spanners wrench. I was able to clean a lot of fungus off the front of the lens with a microfiber cloth and a lot of pressure, but even though it looks much cleaner when shining a flashlight, the spots are still there when I fog the lens with my breath. Could the fungus have etched itself into the front element?
