K&F M42-To-Kmount Adapter

I believe so. I would guess that K&F make just the one model. The adapter pictured in the ad looks like the one in front of me as I type this. On the other hand, so did those $5 pieces of junk. My experience is that the K&F adapter is better machined: it's round and the threads don't bind. I've tried other cheapies, but they were so poorly made that they weren't usable; e.g. not round (and therefore can't be mounted in the body) and nearly impossible to remove from the lens (if you can get it screwed on at all).

I've brought four of these K&F Concept 42->pk adapters, and so far so good. Much better than those $5 cheapies!

This photo is from a bunch I took to try out my first "good" lens, an FA43. The aperture and shutter speed data are no longer embedded in the file, but I would guess 1/250@ F8 or so.

I need help picking a Vivitar lens!

I bought the Vivitar (Kiron) 24mm/f2.0 years ago (1983-5 if memory serves me correctly). It didn't get used at all after about 1988, and so it was packed away until February 2014... 25 years roughly. When I went to use the lens, it turned out the diaphragm was seized; its lubricant was all gummed up. A bit of googling told me this was a common problem with the lens as well as its 28mm sibling. The lens needed a C$60 CLA before I could use it again. Sooo... don't be disappointed if your 35+ year old NOS lens needs a CLA right out of the box as well.

Spotmatic lubricant for sticky mirror problem

I can't say I've seen or heard of a specific Pentax lubricant, but I have read that white lithium grease is appropriate for camera and lens use. I bought a tube of it for about $7 at Parts Source, so it should also be available at Canadian Tire.

I see Aden Camera has body only @ $1049.99 (Toronto), The Camera Store has a body + DA 18-135 @ $1,399.87 (Calgary), and Amazon has a used body only for $948. Otherwise, it looks like everywhere else is sold out. Of course, my answer depends on how accurate these websites are.... and sometimes they're not.

Just a cursory look in Toronto has turned up Downtown Camera, Aden Camera, Henry's and Vistek who offer photo printing, enlargements and so forth through their websites. I don't doubt there are others in the GTA as well.

Bright Colored Mystery Spots in JPEGs Only

My comment may be irrelevant, but here goes. I have a comparable problem on my K100D which turned out to be batteries. I found when using alkalines or ordinary rechargeables I would get 3x3 or 4x4 pixel spots. Switching to high discharge & high capacity lithiums solved the problem. You mention long exposures: maybe using an external power source which will provide steady, ample power for the duration of the expose, process and save cycle will help your troubleshooting.

Apparently this car is a 1932 Oldsmobile that had been parked in the bush and left to rust decades ago. It was hauled out this past spring (April-ish 2017) and is a lawn ornament now. The tree growing through the roof is rooted in the car; not a existing tree growing through it.

I have been taking my stuff to Computech Camera Repair. They've done CLAs for an MX and a P3n as well as fixing a lens with a stuck diaphragm for me. The CLAs were $90 and the lens was $60 (but I expect their prices have gone up in the year or two since the work was done). So far all's good. Although not in Vancouver, Computech might be what you need. Their contact info is:

Japanese and British Ebay sellers

I have bought three lens from Japanese eBay sellers: a Tamron 28-200 walkaround, a Zeiss 25/2.8 and a Zeiss 50/1.4. In all three cases the lenses were better than described (the Zeisses were mint) and shipped promptly. I have no hesitation at all to buy from Japan. As for British sellers, I haven't any experience with them.

Why not just buy a ZK lens and avoid the fuss of an adapter? And you get the full functionality of an A lens. I bought a Zeiss 25/2.8 off eBay a couple years ago and, although listed as used, it seemed absolutely new: complete with original caps & paperwork, not a speck of dust, no fingerprints.. I suspect that many of the Zeiss ZK lenses on eBay (usually from Japan) will be the same. Great lens.

Can't say if it's my best shot of 2016 or not, but it's the one I like the most. It must have been 35+ degrees that day, too hot even for swimming. Actually taken at 1/400 of a second, but could not choose it from the pick list

P.S It has been mentioned here before but: use a fixed ISO. It makes sense, of course, but it's easy to forget and you'll never get manual mode to work correctly otherwise. I've done it.

Extending this idea a bit further, how about enabling cameras to be configured through a computer application? Working on a computer screen could be a lot more pleasant than the 3" screen on the camera. And this app could give you access to settings not available on the in-camera menu system. The app could go well with a favorites or "most often used" in-camera menu.

Letting my imagination run wild:

1) how about if the app allowed add-ins to be installed, be they commercial, user defined or freeware downloadable from PF?

2) the application could display the appropriate manual page for each setting as it's selected.

3) how about incorporating some form of tethering in the app to provide, for example, focus adjustment from a laptop, or for that matter, let the app adjust focus for you.

4) Wildman's wish that never-used and set-and-forget items be hidden until needed would go a long way to making the camera simpler to use in the field. How about the capability to add user menu items, say... it the camera had the ability to execute user defined macros or stored procedures.

5) It would be great if the application could save firmware image complete with any customizing and add-ins, so that should something go wrong system restoration is possible.

Feel free to add new features to this fantasy application.

I love today's auto everything cameras; but sometimes old school simplicity has its own charm. I really like getting out with my $25 flea market Spotmatic + 35mm/f3.5 Takumar; really basic, one manual only body, one lens and 24 frames of film - that's all. Maybe a polarizing filter, too. Making every shot count is great way to build skills.

I did a bit of Googling and e-Baying and have turned up a couple more lenses similar to this. For instance TORA MC Auto FE 28m objectif photo reflex dslr monture pentax k. Any reference I've found is European (France, Italy, Spain and Netherlands), so my best guess is Tora was/is a house or private brand sourced from Japan. I've also found a reference to a Tora zoom, and a Tora filter on e-bay UK: Tora Japanese 55mm Skylight 1A filter for camera lens SLR DSLR Also a close up supplemental lens: Tora Close Up Lens NO2 for 52mm Threads in Original Box | eBay.

In Winnipeg we have Compu-Tech Camera Repair, who CLAed and fixed a stuck diaphragm in a Vivitar 24mm f/2. $60 and two years later the lens is chugging along with no problems.
