HD Pentax-DA★ 11-18mm f/2.8

I'm glad they kept that motor especially since majority of their lenses are still screw-driven.
Someday yeah all Pentax lenses will probably get updated to in-lens motors, as is evident in what Pentax is doing right now (e.g. the release of the 55-300 PLM, 18-50 DC WR RE)

I'm wondering how they'd do that for the Limiteds though. Adding that motor would surely increase the size of the lenses, and kind of goes directly against what Limiteds are mostly about: great build and compactness.

as someone from the Philippines I can vouch that there are no lens plants here those are all in Vietnam with parts coming from Japan. Only bodies are assembled here in a processing zone in Mactan, Cebu.

Also, I doubt the 12-24's gonna go anywhere even when the 11-18 arrives. They're vastly different lenses in features, the only similarity being both UWA. It would be unwise for Pentax to just drop out the other DA* lenses just because a "connection" has been severed with Hoya and Tokina. (the 12-24 is also not SDM... apparently your statement is very much floating with imagination :) )

Anyway, ignore list you go!

as for this lens, I hope Pentax rolls out sample images shot with it (with EXIF data) soon!

nice catch on the taped features, but best bet is a zoom lock to counter zoom creep;
could be a focus limiter (but for what? it's not a macro... and I doubt the focus throw on this lens is long)

something's up; the covered part on gold ring should indicate the filter thread size right? is it possible they're not even final with the optical formula for this lens?
(because the filter thread size might still change?)

most likely a zoom lock as some have said, I doubt a focus limiter since it's easy to go from infinity and down with most wide-angles.

and the final letters are probably just SDM [IF] (and prolly ED, but I'm not very knowledgeable on special lens elements)

Yeah I thought about that a little later. thanks for mentioning the proper term - internal zoom. But that's alright, it isn't disappointing. It's just that internal zoom and focus are truly stellar design features for me

it's just that a lot of folks were wondering about Pentax's long silence (disregarding the KP, at least) after the K-1's release

this new lens is also the only other f/2.8 UWA zoom out there aside from the Tokina 11-16 of yester years, is it?
been browsing through Canikon's APS-C lenses and can't see an UWA at that max aperture

I hope it's an [IF] lens that doesn't extend like the DA*50-135...
but I guess that's unlikely.

Fuji GFX Medium Format Announced.

I wonder how Ricoh will respond to this. Fuji's suddenly upped the ante with this new format in their system.
And will also give current Fuji users something to "upgrade" too - creating even more loyalty to the brand.

suddenly, the 645z looks long in the tooth... let's wait for more news though. But I gotta admit, this is exciting!

This isn't the same K-3II sensor right? Just a variant?

That one's 24.35MP and the K-70's is 24.24...

I doubt any price drop in Canikon is because of the K-1; most likely it's to make room for their upcoming new cameras

probably a B2B thing with sponsorships, endorsements, deals, and related stuff especially for industry professionals / studios. They then use this "display of market share" to get enthusiasts to buy their products.

If Pentax had aggressive B2B marketing back then things could probably be different today.

Irix 15mm f/2,4 for full frame K-mount

What's with all the negativity? I don't understand. For me, even if it's a small startup company - to think they opted to launch their product in K mount too - is a sign that they believe it's profitable in that area (otherwise, even if they just found K mount easy to make in, if there's no money in it, they'd just take the extra effort and go Sony, right?). I just hope the lens is a good performer.

Even those small accessories companies supporting Pentax cameras/system is something positive, expanding what one can do with our less-popular brand.

As for the marketing fluff, well, everybody does it (like how Pentax just chose the name "HD" as in high definition...), it's like a natural part of the product lol

anyway, is there a Samyang/Rokinon/Bower out there that has seals yet?

I believe the LX100 is a very good camera but looking at the "Let's post shots of the Q!" thread, I can't exactly say it's rubbish.

I'm from the Philippines, where Pentax bodies are made, and even here, after-sales support is laughable but they do try their best to improve. Marketing is even more laughable. And they're not improving in that aspect.

Considering that Pentax is made here, we few Pentaxians are also like some occult group to the C/N/S/F clubs. But we don't mind. It actually feels like we're Vader's ship in the midst of all the TIE fighters. :)

If you say it does what you want and need it to do, why switch again? Also, I use mine for small-time commercial work, clients don't care as long as they don't have to provide you your gear lol.

If it's a matter of image as a photographer, you don't have to worry about using a Pentax. If it's about using more gear, well you do have to worry, but then it's something more easily solved than the fear of not being "in" with the crowd.

Ability to use old K mount lenses on K1 is losing poll!

The fact that Ricoh took the trouble to make a Pentax FF with the aim to "satisfy its current userbase" of course presumes they have existing lenses and most probably old ones says that they take the words "history" and "legacy" with weight. No need to worry with at least the current generation of cameras.

There was an English printed catalogue back in the K20D days. I had one photocopied at the local distro in Manila. The DA*s were fairly new that time. After that though, I never saw another one in English.

I wish I understood what that meant.. All I see is that it's sharp like hell but has some ugly fringing in certain light conditions when wide open.

lens screwdrive gear broken

I managed to find a great local technician (in Manila) who was able to repair my lens for half the cost of sending it to Pentax for repair. Also, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself even if you have the parts due to the very intricate detailed nature of the parts inside Limiteds - especially the 43 and its size - unless you have some experience tinkering with them and/or are confident enough with your own repair skills.

When I sent my lens to him he had to look for the part and it took some time, about three weeks. I think some parts for Limiteds are not standard across Pentax lenses so what works for one lens might not for another.

Mystery Lenses in Pentax Interview??
Posted By Alizarine
Replies: 123

all Pentax DSLRs today have in-body IS, so even if the Tamron one was made for Pentax, it wouldn't need the VC. And the Sigma isn't that bad, too. Additionally, 85mm is still pretty short for heavy shake reduction, unlike lenses ranging from, say 300mm and up...

CP+ Interview Question Suggestions

Some suggestions:

1. Will Ricoh expand its distribution to more countries, open their own shops or just license more distro's?

2. Will FF users also be offered the Pro support option? And what other lenses are coming up?

3. Is there a future for the Q line or a possible K-01 successor?
