I took a few shots of a friends' baby with my 'Ruby' at 200mm wide open.
This is my favourite shot. I think the optics of this lens are pretty good.
I am sorry Ash has what appears to be a 'soft' copy of the lens because my copy seems to be pretty good at wide open 2.8.
Jack.
ps. this shot is raw and not post processed and not cropped.
2nd shot is 100% crop

Thanks Ash....yes the window light was behind the camera. The old fella is 98 years old so i didnt want to fuss too much with him with lights and positioning. But you are right, i DO need to think more about the lighting....Thanks.

Portraits with a Tamron 70-200mm Di

This is a portrait done yesterday with my 'Ruby" 70-200mm Di.
I did it purely for testing the lens for portraits. ( ie. No thought went into background etc)
I have been considering getting a Da 70mm or a 100mm macro for portraits but I think this lens might be ok
It was indoor with window light.
Focal length was 100mm at 5.6.
Any opinions? Do I really need to get a dedicated portrait lens or is this good enough quality?
cheers,
Jack

Yes you need to pull the clutch down to the manual position and then flick the camera to manual focus....easy enough to do.

I know it is my fault for not properly researching but I got sucked in by the following review of the Tamron 70-200mm Di. Don't get me wrong, I love the lens but as the reviewer says "it works just great with my Sigma 1.4 TC"........so when I ordered the lens I also ordered the Sigma 1.4TC didn't I!!!!!
Well it doesn't fit AT ALL!!!.....very dissapointed and angry at myself.
I will see if I can swap it for the tammy version.....DOH:mad:

(REAL NAME)
I have had this lens for a few weeks and it hasn't been off my d300. It's sharp at 2.8 and razor sharp by 5.6. In fact at 5.6 I can't tell it from my Sigma 150 macro. It pairs very well with my Sigma 1.4 TC though the EXIF data is 1 f stop faster than reality. Macro mode is very good and with the 1.4 TC is excellent.

I have decided that my next lens will be the Tamron 90mm macro and I think I might call her 'Mandy'.
I have also seriously considered booking myself in for some Therapy.
I think the cost of my Therapy should be paid for by all members of this forum because you are ALL to blame for my newly acquired lens fetish!!!!!!!!!!!:p

Its a big bag that holds 2 cameras and lots of lenses and other bits and pieces.
It has lots of pockets and zips and dividers.....great value at $180 Australian bucks.

Everyone keeps saying how crap the AF is on the Tammy but I don't have this problem. Following a subject with the AF button depressed has given me great results. The following pics were taken today at my sons soccer match. One is of him in action and the other two pics are of seagulls hovering around the park on a scavenging trip. The third and fourth seagull pics are 100% crops.
All shots were at 200mm @ 2.8. It was an overcast day again so the ISO was 400.

I like this lens alot!!

Jack

jsherman999......your review of the tamron 70-200 Di was the one that finally made my decision to get one so that makes you 'Ruby's' Godfather. Congrats.
I am also glad that I am not the only eccentric one out there!!!

Ok Oren its a deal. You post your shots with shot data and then i will reply with shots from same focal length and arpeture. This should be interesting.

My suggestion would be to compare shots at 70mm, 100mm and 200mm at f2.8, f5.6 and f11.....what do you think?

Jack. PS. Its winter down here so it has been very overcast/lowlight but I will try my best

I have an old M50-f2 coupled with k20d and when it asks for focal length should i put in 50mm or 75mm for the crop factor or doesn't it matter?
