Are we really THAT rare?

I was in Yellowstone last weekend with a friend when a man came up to us. He spotted our Pentax gear and he struck up a conversation.

He had a K1 with a DFA 150-450, I had my K3 III with a DFA 150-450 and my friend had her KP with a DA 55-300. He was a very positive Pentax user.
I asked him if he was on the Forum and he said "not any more". Apparently some negative comments had caused him to drop off the board. I didn't pursue the issue.
It was good to find another Pentaxian enjoying the Park.

I emailed B&H today asking when I could preorder and got this reply from Luis L.:
"That is a decision that is up to the manufacturer and until we get the word from them we do not know when or if the Pentax K3 III will be available for preorder."

Takumar 85-210mm F4.5 diopter stuck in case

Thanks for the suggestions.
I managed to get it out using a thin exacto knife going around the outside breaking the
lens loose from the felt.
Looks like new so I suspect it sat there for a long time.

Takumar 85-210mm F4.5 diopter stuck in case

I just received a Takumar 85-210 M42 lens with case. It includes the diopter in its small compartment.
I can not get the diopter out. It may have been sitting in its slot for decades. There is a small finger depression to lift it out but it will not budge.
Any ideas how to get it out short of destroying the top of the case?
Thanks,
Don

MZ-S Cable/Timer switch?

I know.... resurrecting a dead thread.
Has anyone figured out the part number of the connector?
Since I now have a TS-110, I want to use on K3 and MZ-S so will not cut the existing connector off.
Yes, I know there are 3rd party timers available.

Thanks,

This always strike my ear as odd. I like to listen to audio books, especially Craig Thomas (Firefox, Firefox Down). He uses the word orientated and it always drops me out of following the story........
He also likes the word "stertorous" which I rarely hear.

I just got home from a trip to pick up an M42 kit I found I found on Craig's list.
I'm fairly excited as everything is in better condition than I expected.

You can tell me if I did well:

Super-Takumar 105mm 2.8
Super-Takumar 50mm 1.4 - 8 element version
Super-Multi-Coated Macro Takumar 50mm 4
Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 28mm 3.5
Super-Takumar 200mm 4
Tamron Adaptall-2 28-200mm 171A with P/U M42 adapter

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SP
Honeywell Spotmatic

Everything is extremely clean. All original caps and cases. I don't know how the previous owner kept the leather cases looking so good.
The Spotmatics are clean and sound good. The mirrors don't stick...
Total cost $200 plus 1/2 tank of gas.

I'll know more when I get a chance to run some film through them.

For me, leaving the camera and lens together in a backpack allows me to set up quickly when I stop for a wildlife shot. I set up the tripod then I pull the camera and attached lens out of the backpack.
This also means I don't have to attach the lens outdoors so I prevent wind getting dirt inside. For me, this works just as I want.

I have the Lens Trekker AWIII. The model that came out after yours. I keep my DA560 and K3 in it and have nothing but good things to say about it. I believe the AWII model was just a bit too short for the DA560. It is a quality backpack.

I went to a lot of car shows when I lived near Detroit including the Concours d'Elegance...
There were a number of Prototype cars on display with documentation. I remember Corvettes, Chrysler Turbines, Mustangs...
Some of them had interesting stories about how they escaped.

I checked Blacktail Plateau Road this weekend. Its closed with a chunk of road dug up in front of it...not promising. One of the Black Bear I saw was the same area where it was when you were here a few years ago. You'll have to let me know about the other road.

No, Just his legs. I watched him quite a while and he was all alone. Park is different this year. Can't take Dunn Raven pass all year so its the long way through Mammoth Hot Springs. The road from Norris to Mammoth is finally done so
its nice now. The coyote was at the top of the road just before the 6% grade down to Mammoth. There is a new road there and a new trail and virtually no people.....
By the way the Osprey nest is in use again this year. Mom is sitting on eggs.

Thanks,
It was windy and overcast and rained late in the afternoon. But I got to see two Bears swimming, a Coyote and a Bald Eagle having lunch so it was a good day.

Alan,
There are many hotels in West Yellowstone which is located at the West Yellowstone, MT gate. There is a brand new hotel here in Big Sky - The Wilson (part of Marriott) that puts you 45min from the West gate.
Big Sky Lodgings | Residence Inn Big Sky/The Wilson Hotel.
A number of hotels at the Gardiner entrance as well.
Since the tour buses will not be filling the hotels, I expect there will be some space.
Don

Alan,
That's what I was getting at. Normally the Park opens well before the Lodge does. Since the actual Park has made no announcement (their last notice is when they closed March 24th)
see - Yellowstone National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

I'm hoping the Park may open sooner so I can get in. Since the overseas travel restrictions are in place and the 2 week out of state visitor quarantine is in place, the Park should be a lot more photographer friendly...

That's interesting. That notice is for The Lodge at the Park. The actual Yellowstone Park still has no information on its web page about any opening date....
Hopefully, the Park itself will open a bit sooner.
