Need advice for a shoot

Without flash letting you stop down to f4 or more, this is going to be hard, Dreamercross.

If you're shooting at f1.4, it's asking a lot of you and your directing and them and they're modelling ability to have their eyes in the same focal plane, again and again without the shots looking repetitive.

You get more margin for error with full length shots, because you're standing back further. :)

And of course, nor do Pentax owners as a whole, as their market research must show and the survey in this very forum actually does.

Instagram vs...

Why Instagram, Twitter and Facebook have succeeded over the earlier platforms like Flickr, 500pix, etc is that they're social, and that a generation of people/customers/potential clients actively engage with them again and again throughout the week or even day.

If you're not into engagement - you're not a sociable person or aren't advertising - you're far better off sticking to the older sites or putting prints on the wall. You're just pleasing yourself.

I do quite a bit of birding, Tuggie, and it's all about improving speed and correctness of technique.

So you should begin quickly deploying and bracing the camera then framing and shooting large, tame waterfowl at a park, and build up to the jumpier, smaller, wilder birds. :)

By the sound of it, Leo, you'd benefit most not by reading a book or watching some YouTube video, but going to a class and getting real time feedback and instruction. You'll have a lot of 'Aha!' moments in a group. :)

The issue is *not* companies outsourcing manufacturers to make their products, Winder, a board wants that.
It's where those lens companies start offering their own branded alternatives, and keep the money! :)

AFAIK, something like the Sigma 24-70mm is not licensed by Nikon, who receive no royalties, and additionally it competes with their OEM product.

Canon, Nikon and Sony hate the third party lens manufacturers. They are commercial rivals, no question about it, and they don't share protocols. They put the effort into developing a body, and don't want it simply milked by others. It is the weaker companies struggling against them who collaborate with each other to try to share costs (Panasonic, Olympus, Sigma, Leica, Pentax, Tokina).

An 'ecosystem' is what we owners want, not the camera companies. :)

I think this would be disastrous, Charlie you'd end up paying more for every Pentax product you buy, without a hike in sales to justify it.

As I understand it, those big chain stores run on such tight margins they try to make money not just off customers, but the suppliers too - you pay for the floorspace, and they hit you up for a percentage of the advertising.

IIRC, the K-500 was an attempt by Pentax North America to play that sort of Canon/Nikon game - high volume, low profit, and it failed miserably. I don't think Japan ever listened to its North America office again about products or marketing after that disaster. It's stuck to its domestic market, and as a niche manufacturer elsewhere.

That's a fantastic pic. It makes a big difference, getting to work with someone for a street portrait rather than candid street photography, but you now get the right angle for the geometrical display you wanted, and from so close we see all the textures.

A man wanted to become a Buddhist monk so he went to the monastery and talked to the head monk, who said, “You must take a vow of silence and can only say two words every three years.”

The man agreed and after the first 3 years, the head monk came to him and said, “What are your two words?”

“Food cold!” the man replied.

Three more years went by and the head monk came to him and said “What are your two words?”

“Robe dirty!” the man exclaimed.

Three more years went by and the head monk came to him and said, “What are your two words?”

“I quit!” said the man.

“Well,” the head monk replied, “I'm not surprised. You've done nothing but complain ever since you got here!”

I have this lens and it's excellent.

Don't use any filter unless you have a specific purpose and are willing to cope with its interference in certain scenarios.

I say that as a frequent CPL user, too, BTW. :)

I just hope they don't get sued, DW.

The idea of Led Zeppelin getting angry over music intellectual property would be surreal. :)

Yeah, the travel was brutal - pretty much around the world in four weeks, and it was three connecting flights home from Seattle over two days a lot of time waiting in transit lounges without the use of a bed or shower. :)

My wife was using up a lot of her long service leave as a high school teacher of more than twenty years, and picked Scotland for the romance of it all (she's an Outlander fan) and Idaho for its cycling and hiking 'off the beaten track'.

If it was my pick, it would have been a little different - we've not been to the East Coast USA, for instance, and I might have gone for Central/Eastern Europe instead of the UK again, but the people we encountered and the experiences were great in any case. And happy wife equals happy life. :D

Actually, he's better off painting with the Pentax 540.

Because its flash is so much brighter, he can really stop down the camera for the composite and kill the ambient if needed. Onlookers can be removed there just needs to be a single frame where they're not in the same position.

Tripod and permission from the owner required in fact, the owner could be sold resulting photos! :)

All good tips, Bob. We started in Boise but it soon looked like we'd have to drive for a day to get to Jackson, do a tour, then another day to Couer d'Alene where we really wanted to go.

We'd do it properly in the future, and I'd see if you were available in whatever part of the state you're in for a lunch meetup or just buy you a drink or whatever. :)

If you see his mockumentary 'Exit Through the Gift Shop' he very much ridicules the pricing of art and satirizes reputation versus talent.

In respect to the Dada movement, I think he does have a lot in common with them, although they were of their time - they'd fled to Switzerland during WW I and thought nothing was more absurd than the global war going on around them.

Forget focus peaking in low contrast conditions, Charles.

What you'd do is get a Hoodman loupe to turn the back screen into an EVF. Use Magnified live view, it's fine then.
