That's pretty impressive Taz, and thanks for the feedback.

My niece lives in Brisbane and is always taking about 'nudgee', what is it?

I went from k30 to k3ii, the difference in quality of photo was amazing. The main thing I miss is the pop up flash.

That seemed to work, although it was a tiff file and was gonna take 20 minutes to download. As I'd already done the contest I stopped there.

My first time with this competition, so I'm not sure how far you can go. I added a sunrise and some morning mist as well as general adjustments.

I couldn't access the raw file, the web page would not open.

A stunning sunset at Port Dalhousie last night. I recently bought a manual focus Vivitar 28-70 for $25 and tried catch in focus. I have to say it works amazingly, almost as good as auto focus, just hold the shutter release and focus the lens until it clicks!

Focus issue

Thanks for all the advise, I would have changed lenses, but it just wasn't possible at the time. On a different night I had my 10-17 on and that worked fine by setting to infinity and backing off a bit, but the moon was too bright to get long enough exposures.

Focus issue

I was in Manitoba last week and was presented a show of the Northern Lights. I mounted my trusty K3ii on a tripod and tried to focus my 18-135 lens. I have been advised that the trick is to focus on infinity and back off a tad, but there is no infinity mark or stop on the lens so focusing was just shear luck, not something I'm overburdened with! Any advise? A different lens would be better, but not practical at the time.

Another time I tried to find the milky way, but a full moon ruled out longer exposures, plus, how do you know where to look?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I found the 'interval composite mode', set to 2 minute intervals did a nice job, but trying to look at the screen while pointing at the sun had it's challenges. This is 2 sets, the first through a 10 stopper, the second through welding glass. Not great, but I had fun and learnt for next time!

I had the camera on continuous and just kept shooting to see what happened, I realised the sun was too low, but wanted to see the effect. Yes, I had the Pentax leaf type hood on, maybe a full hood would have worked, but the sun was so low I don't think anything would have been perfect.

Thanks, Canadian Rockies, I'm totally impressed with the lens. Here's another of the start sequence, the lens flair is quite evident.

I took a trip to Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada last night to watch the Prince of Wales Stakes, the start and final turns were right in front of the sun, but the K3ii seemed to manage.

I don't think it's a fault with the camera. It happens to me if I forget to put the card back in after downloading the pictures. I look at it as a way to say 'Idiot, you forgot the card!' I just put the other card in the slot I want. It's much better than not having a card at all!

This may not be the best place for this, but my wife and I will be going to Gravenhurst Ontario next weekend. I know a few of you are near Alquonuin park and I'm wondering if you can recommend an easy place to get to that may have moose or other interesting wildlife.

Thanks, pm me if not appropriate to thread.
