You gonna stick with apsc? the Rokinon 10mm2.8 is what I will be purchasing for that. There is a guy named Kevin Palmer who has taken some really nice night photos with that.

Chromatic Aberration or Fringing?

Man this post is getting so scientific!! To sum it up, it sucks that the lens has such bad fringing in the OOF areas. Also, the bike isn't in good focus, causing the fringing to be all over your subject! The second image also was not in good focus, eliminating the fringing, but preventing you from creating a quality photo.

All this talk about science experiments and adding filters is pretty much a waste of time. Try focus peaking or zooming in on live view to get that sharp focus and minimize that fringing!

Where are you located? Is there a rental shop that will ship to you or one where you can pick one up? I use lensrentals.com all the time just because I like to try before I buy.

I was unable to zoom in on your backyard photo taken with the sigma... but the coolpix photo looks way better across the frame than the one taken with the kit lens(that lens sucks). Seriously, you mounted the cheapest lens to the flagship camera and wonder why they suck... Sure, processing would make them all better, but just scroll from the bottom of that image to the top and you can tell you are using a lens with horrible corner performance(it actually looks really good in the center)
I have a little bit of experience with the Sigma, and so far I liked it pretty well for across the frame sharpness. I've heard of auto focus issues from others but I normally shoot nature mounted to a tripod and manually focus for hyper focal distance, so I don't have a lot of experience with its AF.

Landscape Love the Shadow Recovery on the K3

I am still fairly new to the k3 so I am still using the 2 exposure brackets to make sure I can get all the DR covered. But am finding as I get more familiar with where the k3 clips the highlights I am needing the second exposure less and less. my personal jury is still out on the 12-24 but so far I have gotten good results.

I wasn't comparing it. I don't really like the IQ of those type of zooms so the 18-135 really isn't my taste. To be honest it's actually somewhat challenging to compare those two lenses as they are pretty much totally different lenses..
Also, the DA 15 may be similar cost but again, it's a completely different lens.

Ahh I see now. I was looking at it at full size so I pretty much only saw a photo with tons of CA. Looks like dragon... had it right. It's Moire.

I REALLY like seeing lots of quality samples. The edge of the frame is a touch weak. But I agree with the starburst comment above, those look great .

Are you referring to the blue and magenta highlights around all the branches? If so, then they are CA and have pretty much nothing to do with anything regarding post process. Most of them could be easily corrected, but the big magenta area might be tough to tackle.
I am really surprised to see that much CA at a somewhat small aperture, at first I thought it was a shot taken at a much larger aperture than f8, bummer.

I'd probably go with the 16-50 simply because 24 isn't wide enough for events IMO

How do I get a white foam in the ocean night shots?

You are on the right track! Just watch the waves before you shoot. It looks like he may have been shooting near high tide, which would mean for way more foam and splash.
Shooting with a flat horizon makes it really easy to blend to need for the exposure time on the foreground while holding back the sky in a separate exposure.
From my experience, waiting until the sun is well below the horizon allows you to get it all in one exposure. That said, the use of ND filters will really give you flexibility to get those long exposures in any condition.

I'm like 5 hours from ocean so I don't do these often... EXIF data is available on all the photos

This was a really hard choice! I just recently switched back to Pentax from the 5dii. I've been shooting like crazy for the last month but I still only have a small gallery of 2014 images to choose from(I got my camera on Black Friday). This one is from the last Saturday of 2014. You start your hike in the dark and come up to a rock bald that has great views of Virginia. There were a couple guys up there as well, and one of them came up onto the rock and stood there long enough for me to compose a shot with him. I gotta say the shadow recovery on the k3 is stellar. I just overexpose the sky a little knowing I can pull it back down, and then, where the camera really excels is when you boost the shadows! Looking forward to shooting with this thing in 2015!

This photo is of the staircase to the top of Pompeys Pillar in Southeast Montana. It is one of the last places that have physical evidence of the Lewis and Clarke Expedition. This photo was used as the cover for the 2014 Southeat Montana Travel Guide. This was taken with a pentax k20d that has since been drowned in the river. Thanks for the support!
