I'd be interested being on the list for the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 as well. Was anybody ever able to find out what the price from Zeiss was going to be for an order of 500 lenses?

Interesting, so this is probably a really dumb question, but where are these available for purchase and will they work on a K-1?

I'm on board if there is a movement to get together and place an order with Zeiss. Yes please on the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 ZK Distagon T* Manual Focus Lens for Pentax K-Mount.

I read a lot of reviews today and I'm really starting to like what i'm seeing with the Loxia line. There's a 21mm focal length that will be available in a couple of weeks that I might prefer a lot more than the 35mm focal length, but will need see the distortion differences.

Thanks a bunch for your input and info! I've read quite a bit about the Loxia 35 f/2, but kind of wrote it off for two reasons. Manual focus only and I'm not a huge fan of shooting the 35mm focal length. With that being said I can adapt to anything for the right combination. I've loved the idea of the RX1r since it came out and was really excited about the mark ii, but as I mentioned, the samples/posts thus far have been very underwhelming which brings me back to the A7r ii. I did see that there is supposed to be a 18mm Batis coming early next year.

The other lens I have been researching and looking into extensively is the Voigtländer 15mm f/4.5 heliar iii. There's a thread on another site that features Ultra-wide Images and nearly every image shot with the A7r ii + 15mm iii Heliar is spectacular and eye catching. I enjoy shooting stitched pano's, but the 15mm may eliminate the need and it is time consuming.

As far as Pentax...I love my K-5 and DA 15mm. That camera and lens combination has served me well. I have been very close to buying the 645z and even several used 645d's. Two things have held me back. The weight of the system as I travel into the back country a lot and secondly, the file size/resolution is probably overkill for what I do/sell.

Anyhow, thanks a bunch for your input and look forward to seeing more of your images in the future!

What will I be missing or gaining if I continue to be with Pentax?

I too am still shooting with the ever so trusty K-5. 99% of my shots are with my K-5 and DA 15mm. I've been in the "market" for a couple of years looking for a replacement. I've nearly bought a K-3 several times, and did buy an A7r and a 610 and promptly returned both. I've been waiting patiently for the Pentax FF, but the new Sony RX1r ii and the A7r ii with a Batis 25mm have my attention.

I think there's two things to consider. Equipment is only part of the equation. I find technique and composition much more important than equipment. I'm in a fairly large local photography group and I have the cheapest setup, yet sell the most work and get the most positive feedback. There's people that have $5-$10k setups/gear but never learned photography. You hear things like "but I have a 36mp sensor, my lenses cost more than a car, etc." I'm not implying that you don't know what you're doing at all, but merely showcasing that equipment isn't everything. The one hang up I have is my desire for more resolution. I've found that clients typically like to print large for their homes or offices. I also carry everything when in the field and only want one lens and as light as possible system, which is why the Sony A7r ii is so appealing right now. To overcome the lack of resolution if you will, I just shoot and stitch panoramics now.

As far as gaining and losing...that's up to you.

Hi itshimitis,

I enjoyed going through all your A7rii photos with the various lenses that you've shot with. I'm in the market for a new camera/lens (still shooting with a K-5 and DA15mm). While I've been waiting patiently for the new Pentax FF, each day I'm leaning more and more towards switching back over to Sony. I've had my eye on the A7rii with a Batis 25 f/2. I really like shooting primes and in the 20-25mm range since I'm so used to a 22.5mm focal length with the DA15mm. My question for you is with the regard to the A7rii if you had to pick only one lens for it and primarily landscape work, which lens would you buy? I've read a lot about the 16-35mm too and would be open to a zoom on the A7rii. I had been waiting patiently for user shots from the RX1rii as that was a top solution as well, but so far I've been underwhelmed by what I've seen and I think the A7rii offers a lot more flexibility. I also like to shoot a lot stitched panoramics, typically 3-8 images. Anyhow, love the shots you post and thanks in advance for any advice. Take care!

Wow! Beautiful work! I can't wait to see your lens tests on the Sony A7r! I too have been waiting a long time for a camera like that. I'm sure I'll buy it at some point, but not until I see a wide angle lens test that blows me away. I'm hoping that Zeiss will come out with an insane wide angle prime FE lens. Great website by the way, enjoyed it this evening. I subscribed to your newsletter.

Highly thinking about it! That's a really good deal! For what it's worth, I spoke with a very highly regarded camera repair shop and he said the D600 and the D800 are both dust magnets. He has yet to see any oil. He said "just don't change your lens" and you'll be fine. Joking of course...

It's $65 for a full wet cleaning. If you buy it, test it (small aperture straight up at the sky). If it's bad send it back!

I'm 99% a landscape shooter as well and I would agree the center is really great, but the edges and corners are quite soft...even stopped down. I still love the lens, but it has it's limitations for sure.

Howdy fellow 15mm's! It's been a while since I've posted on here and I've had my 15 for about a year now. It's easily my favorite lens and is on my K-5 99% of the time. With that being said the 15 does come with some heartache (at least my copy). Does anybody else have issues with extreme softness in the corners and even the edges on large landscape shots? I also have issues with a lot of CA, albeit on very high dynamic scenes which I know are an issue with pretty much any lens. I guess my question is is there anything I can do to help mitigate the softness? I used to focus 1/3rd into the scene, but the top corners were really soft, so now I center focus. I typically shot at f/8-f/11...have any other users found another aperture more useful for sharper dof on landscapes? Any info/help would be greatly appreciated! Here's 2 examples...

This image at 100% shows the mountain range in the top left corner is very soft! (Or perhaps I'm expecting too much?)

At 100% the tree's and greenery on the edge's are quite soft!

K5 Exposure Bracket Shift

mde1970...Yea, I was trying multiple setting and lenses last night too. I thought I had it figured out since it worked twice in a row with two different lenses and no shift. I do own Photomatix but don't like using it. I suppose I could just use it for aligning, but that just increases my workflow. There's got to be a reason this is happening and I would suspect a fix. Definitely disappointing that you can't shoot 3, 5, etc. multiple exposures without them being properly aligned. ;)

Well that's a bummer hearing that it's not being caused by the Automatic Horizon Correction. I don't own Photoshop. I use LR/Enfuse with Lightroom4 to blend my multiple exposures. The program is great...but it works better and faster when images are aligned properly out of the camera like they're supposed to be. This is super frustrating and I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger issue with K-5 users. I love the K-5 and it's the best camera I've owned, but this is becoming a major issue for me.

I did have the Automatic Horizon Correction turned on and I believe that was the culprit. It didn't happen all the time and after reading at length about it, I think that was causing my issue. Thanks to all who replied and thanks so much Karl Stevens...appreciate it!

So I checked and SR is indeed off as I thought. I'll have to check for Horizon Correction. It's definitely not composition adjustment. I'm going to experiment tonight and see if I can provide more insight. Thanks for the responses!

Thanks for the replies! Sorry, I should've specified that I always shoot on a tripod. It might be the SR though. I'll have to double check when I get home. I know I turned it off at some point, but that's not to say its not back on somehow. That would make sense with what the images are doing and the misalignment. Hopefully that's what it is!

K5 Exposure Bracket Shift

Hi all, I'm having an issue with my K5 when I bracket exposures. For example...3 exposures at -2, 0, +2. Sometimes, not all the time though, when I take the photos one of three will be shifted slightly. I thought it might be me when pressing the shutter button, but it also happens when I use a remote shutter release. Sometimes I like to blend all three images together, but it's impossible when one if the images shifts. I've never had an issue like this before. I searched the forums, but couldn't find anything similar. Any ideas what the deal is? Thanks!
