D-FA* 85mm f1.4 also coming

Okay what is the point of 85mm large aperture lens for DSLR? AF performance is so-so with these lenses for CaNikon also. They hit what they hit. Not always the intended spot. For mirrorless system they could make some sense.

Indeed. I have found handholding hi-res cameras a bit impossible to make any proper use of them without a flash.

What technique was used to take for example the 3rd color photo? Handheld or tripod? It does not have very high IQ when viewed in large size.

Landscape testing Pixelshift with longer exposure

Ya, long exposures sometimes work with PS. Artifacts will be different type or visually hard to spot compared to typical short PS exposures with movement between frames. I often combine long exposure PS frame with normal frame and mask any artifacts with content from normal frame. RawTherapee has automatic masking BTW which works quite well. But it is not Lightroom.

Good thing is that usually rocks and other large mass objects do not move and pop nicely with extra sharpness.

Trying to kick the lens buying habit

Awww, let's fix that. "One good cure is to buy a camera with a fixed lens". But...then one needs many different fixed lens cameras. No wait...there is already Sigma Merril series.

One good cure is to buy a camera for which one can find no lenses. For example Leica Q. Or 4000€ Fatbike. Much more useful than stupid camera gear and also gets one in good shape physically. Leica Q fits in small backpack when cycling around the wilderness. Although I would rather take some snacks instead of Leica for long runs.

Serious advice: Get a top of the class lens like Zeiss 135/2 APO. After that there is no return to coke bottle bottom lenses.

Astro Tracer Failure?

My comfort temperature is about +5C and anything above that is a nuisance as it limits physical performance of human body too much during high pace activity. I have noticed most hi-res cameras start to fail after +20C too. +30C being IQ limiting border.

Sony 36MP sensor camera bodies do not usually need long exposure noise reduction when time is 30 second or less. In extreme heat I would use it (+30C or more). When using astrotracer for longer than that, it is somewhat useful.

I recommend trying out Leica M9 should you have such possibility some day. It gives sparkling files particularly with Zeiss Biogons.

Yes it is. If I hold the lens (Zeiss 50MP) tightly by hand and fire away with MLU I can still feel the shutter resonating thru the lens body (or tripod legs). Multiexposures cannot be used with electronic shutter (plain dumb feature) and firing away 256x exposures with MLU is even more hassle should it cure something (it does NOT). I have workaround for this - ND filter to make exposures long enough but not too long. Combining few second exposures with multiexposure averaging is superb technique for smooth IQ.

I started with K200D and 18-55mm kit lens. This was one of first landscape images I took with it. The CCD sensor gives better colors than modern K-1 body which after some tweaking comes close but not enough. Leica M9 is about the same.

I combined it with Photomatix trial back in 2008. Oh gosh. Funny thing I purchased it later and it was lifetime license which still works this very day. Not that I use it anymore.

Nothing wrong with the review. In the end it says: "So it's big, it's heavy and it's very sharp."

Anyone experienced with high-end lenses knows extreme performance comes at the cost of one or two side effects. Even Zeiss Otus lenses have issues, for example minor focus shift (bad).

Oh the shutter shock is there with MK2. Just use shutter speed between 0.5s and 1/20sec, put camera to multiexposure average mode and shoot the stack. Output is more or less messed up. Much less of an issue towards faster speeds or longer exposures.

Image center is somewhat like Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/1.4 shot wide open. Acceptable. But then again, what was the point of the test photo? Duck's eye? Kind of same issue of having very sharp human eye and the rest of the face blurred. Waiting for someone to plan a dramatic landscape shoot in really nasty weather and punish the lens properly.

What's the use case for extremely high ISO?

ISO has no meaning with ISO invariant camera. You can shoot at low ISO and boost later. With K-1 MK2 this is especially important as you have much less control over noise reduction later.

Pentax KP vs Fuji X-H1

True, but then again KP starts to really shine with the battery grip and D-LI90 which are quite a high additional cost if budget is limited. Not much an issue in warm climate but go under 0C and issues are very real.

I just wrote that the same cast is present in all ISO100 exposures when pushed. This again suggests that RAW conversion fails or ISO100 is not the real base ISO of MK2 but something higher. Have to do ISO100 vs 200 comparison using multiexposure averaging which allows huge boosting of moderately high ISO value images. It will not remove the cast but shows it very clearly.

How do you explain this: Mark I vs Mark II ISO Comparison Plus Files - Page 3 - PentaxForums.com

Nothing special done except exposure push. All my ISO100 exposures look like that when pushed beyond 4EV. Trying to adjust tint to get rid of the magenta results in very weird looking images. Are there again some uncalibrated sensors or similar issues in some models while others are good?

Pentax KP vs Fuji X-H1
Posted By MJKoski
Replies: 62

This question comes down to brand commitment to the system. Fuji constantly brings out new lenses and seems to update old models - both lenses and camera bodies. Ergonomics wise, X-T2 and X-H1 are no worse than KP which has lackluster add-on grip system with pieces that fit to no hand perfectly.

I see no reason to get KP instead of Fuji unless one has extensive selection of modern (enough) Pentax lenses with aperture automation. That, and/or Pixel-Shift which always requires extra care and proper tripod. Thus, lust for Pixel-Shift is better handled with K-1.
