It's embarassing to think that a technology company the size of Ricoh cant manage to get Blue Tooth connectivity to work. I use the App now and again, I'll have to see if I have automatically been updated.

I responded to a post 3 years ago from the same user on the same topic.
If he is still rationalizing, it sounds to me as though he should sell the works. There is no amount of navel gazing that can cure that feeling of ďit would have been better ifĒ.

Now if he is situated in Lakeshore, Ontario he ought to send a PM and I will help him find a home for is unsatisfactory glass.

With only four pages to view I flipped through your culled offering.. have you isolated what resonates? I went througha couple years of poor shooting frequency. I lug my K-1 and a selection of lenses everyday but I found I'd go for a week and make only a handful of shutter activations. My 365 project was a way to "get at it"

A few things I have gathered after hanging around here for nearly a decade.

1) The Red Rule is always in effect
2) Great Light + instersesting subject = Win (the opposite of that is that an interesting subject in poor light, or great light illuminating a mundane object just doesnt compell any response)
3) People doing things make great interesting subjects - particularly when you see their face
4) Surrealistic PoV - something different than the casual observer might see always causes people to pause and look.

So I've tried to make photos with people in them, tried to create interesting illuminated subjects, and where ever possible a little humor as this is the best way to invoke a response from viewers.. The internet is filled with pretty pictures, and even more poor photography. I may not be successful in hitting these simple rules, but I feel if I make an effort to tick a few of those boxes, I'll have greater success.

Anyway - the fact that you are examining your photography means you'll come to your own conclusions - It would be great to read your thoughts if you cared to share... or any of our other daily regulars who want to share a philosophy on photograpy...

I'm off to the ball park again.. TTFN!! :)

I normally shoot ball with a Sigma 120-400 which is too big by far, and reaks of "pro", and even the DA 55-300 is too big. My local stadium regulates SLR's to lenses of no greater than 3" in length.

Well except for the guys with passes that is...

I've hit explore pretty consistantly since Christmas 2018.... around every 13 days except the last few weeks when it has been a bit more frequently... but I just hit #2 with the image below... just a bit of nonsense really, crafted for a 365 project which I'm sharing in our "Daily In" group.

What's wrong with my portrait?

Congrats to the young fellow...

Lots of different things to change what you'd done, not that there is anything WRONG per se in what you've got there:

1) spot meter on skin in the shade. Old school and it works.
2) use centre metered...with the dark shirt it would probably get you there with no exposure comp. might need some test exposures to make sure the exposure is ok.
3) use matrix metered with a (+) exposure compensation. Might need some test exposures to make sure the compensation is adequate.

4) use fill flash

Open shade is a great place to make portraits. You might consider moving your subject so the back ground isn't as difficult to work with.
Practice practice practice.

I'm no pro, but I've made plenty of portraits and I love the view from a fast fifty. É4 is a good aperture to work at at the distance you are at, and the shutter speed is reasonable for handheld portraiture so that is all good.

To be completely honest, its a snapshot and I wouldn't be scared to boost it in post (i'm assuming you're collecting RAW files in at least one card slot).

A quick edit - its tough to work with such a small jpg... but I think you've got something workable in the file.

Technique Question: Portrait Photography with a Milky Way background

I can tell you that your milky way will take anywhere from 30-90 secs to expose properly. Your portrait figure will need to be painted in, but i caution that you must keep the portrait victim in place for the duration of the milkyway exposure or you will get a ghostly effect of stars shining through your portrait sitter...

A colour exposure of link above for your convenience.... I'm not so sure about your use of filters. Generally speaking a Red filter adds 1.5-2 stops to exposure times which will be very noticeable when you have esposures measured in minutes...

Since January I've had 14 explores, and this week I was recognised (questionably) for Flickr's Good Panda's contest - During that time I've taken a new job and been through Airport security over a dozen times, spent 7 weeks in hotels, and travelled to 3 baseball tournaments. All that plus a 365 project that I'm glad to share here for your encouragement.

I'm in for June to keep the ride going for days 151 -> 181 of my 365.

PS: all joking aside, good to see Sandy join the Mod team - Its a thankless task.

Hood doesnít rotate. The filters are moved into place by carefully rotating the ring which is is accessible between the petals of the hood. Itís a great lens I use often.
