Yep if it's not attached to the body WD40 will probably be fine, as long as you clean it thoroughly afterwards.

Baseplate on a Spotmatic is easy to get off...

My top ten favorite lenses and the honorable mentions

They're winners! The Minolta in particular is a favourite. Autocord's are such an affordable way into medium format (6x6) and the Chiyoko Rokkor lens is exceptional - as good as the f3.5 Zeiss and Schneider glass used by Rollei.

I second these two suggestions.

Both good image quality, well made, compact and very affordable.

I always chuckle when these 'best of' lists end up with 22 different lenses. It's not really very selective is it?

Anyway, here's mine (across a few different formats in no particular order).

1. SMC Pentax-M 28/f2
2. SMC Pentax 50/f1.2
3. SMC Pentax 85/f1.8
4. Chiyoko Rokkor 75/f3.5 (Minolta Autocord)
5. Carl Zeiss 38/f4.5 Biogon (Hasselblad SWC/M)
6. Leitz 5cm f2 Summicron Collapsible

That's it I think.

I wouldn't, no.

If possible (you haven't said which body you have), remove the base plate. For most mechanical Pentax's this is very easy (there's lots of tutorials on youtube). Then soak it in common white vinegar for a couple of hours. The battery cap should come straight off.

WD40 is bad news around cameras. Avoid.

As an aside, unless you really need to use it, I would never play around with the self-timer on an older camera. Most haven't been used in decades and will fail the first time you try to activate them, leaving you with a dicky leaver poking out at 45deg...

What is this thing in my viewfinder?

Yep, de-silvering... Won't affect images but will steadily get worse with time.

The bad news - it's not really repairable. If you're invested in the camera, finding a donor body and swapping the prisms is probably your best option. Luckily there are lots of K1000's in the world. As others have mentioned, I would send it to Erik Hendrickson and have him do a full CLA at the same time.

The good news - it's not a Leica :) I had to get the rangefinder prism in my M2 re-silvered. You do not want to know how much that cost...

I really (really) like the top two thirds of this, but the composition is ruined for me because of the lawn in the foreground.

I'd love to see a version with a wider perspective and the foreground cropped out!

I think I've missed something here... Why on earth would you start a whole thread about a lens sale that you wanted to 'keep under the radar'?

I think I just replied to you on FB...

Anyway, the red IR mark should be to the right of the '4' on an 8 element Super Takumar, not the left. You have a 7 element...

Ah ok, the bodies with a green 'R' are not compatible with the 50/f1.4.

'The SV came in an early and a late type. The latter has an orange 'R' on the rewind knob which tells that the camera can use the 50mm f/1.4 lens (which protudes farther into the camera than all other 50mm lenses)'

Do you mean that all four have a red R on the rewind lever (rather than green)?

Very nice :)

I currently have two SV's away with an Australian technician having new curtains made. Will be interesting to see the results.

I agree though, it's a beautiful camera to use!
