Pentax has gone crazy! And not for the first time! Seriously though, it's great to see a 70-210mm f4 with a light and portable body. I've got the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 but don't use it as much as I'd like because it is heavy. Like you I think I will re-assess... It might be time to look at the new offering. And I'm also hoping Pentax goes completely nuts and releases the 85 1.4 this year!

On my K1 it's the DA* 50mm 1.4. If I have my KP then it's the 35mm 2.8 macro (which becomes then almost a 'normal' lens) and on my tiny GX800 it's the Sigma 19mm - also near normal. I really like these FL's as they represent what I see. And of course I also like to use the 43mm 1.9 - as perfect a normal lens as you can get on FF.

And welcome from an ex-South African, from Durban, who has lived in Adelaide Australia, whose mother is Norwegian, and who now lives in rural Cookham in Berksire,England!

Never been to Phoenix though, and hope to do so one day. Hope you enjoy your K1ii - I have a K1 and it is wonderful paired with the DA* 50mm 1.4. You've got so much lovely light to play with!

Pentax 100 Year Celebration event in Watford, UK

I attended the Pentax 100 Year Celebration event in Watford today. it was held at SRS Microsystems and was a great day for the many Pentaxians who made the journey from all over the UK, as well as a guy who flew in from Sweden!

Mr Takahashi, President of Ricoh Imaging, flew in for the event - he was only over in the UK for 7 hours before flying back to Japan tonight. That's quite a commitment and was greatly appreciated by all.

He spoke about the new APSC camera and brought one over with him, but it was inside its glass case as in previous events in other parts of the world. He talked about Pentax staying committed to DSLR's and said that they were not moving into mirrorless as he believes that many people prefer the OVF over any other system. He didn't even say, "Well, one day we will". It just doesn't appear to be something that Pentax is going to spend money on. He talked about the new APSC as being a premium product and it seems that that is the direction they are moving in - money will come from building and selling premium cameras rather than low cost entry-level models in the way that Canon and Nikon do. Pentax as a brand is definitely moving into a premium position. It may turn out to be one of the shrewdest moves in an ever-shrinking market. There is still a lot of profit to be made.

I looked carefully at the camera in its glass case but cannot add any more than has been written in previous posts. The rear screen does not appear to articulate but that doesn't mean that it will not in the future. We just don't know. Once again the name was blacked out by black tape.

Happily, I got a photograph with him for my kids, who were mighty impressed that I was going to meet the President, even if he was the President of Ricoh Imaging!

Lovely images! How does the 50mm 1.4 handle on your KP? I also have a KP but don't use it much. However, the 75mm focal length equivalent using the 50mm makes me think how good it will be for portraits.

Post more images - would love to see them!

Some with the D FA* 50mm F1.4 SDM from a recent trip to Wales. Pontsticill water and some a reflection that I liked...

I really do think this lens can do so much, from portraits to landscapes.

Yes - I see that now! I just copied and pasted what they had on the page. Should've just typed it out myself!

It's still a fantastic price though regardless of their/my typo!

Pentax HD FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW Lens - Pentax K Mount

I have just taken delivery of a 50mm 1.4 and it is something quite spectacular! As Sandy said, The best lens I've ever used' or words to that effect. I agree.

Don't know how long the price reduction runs for....
