K3 Crazy Mirror Sickness (Mirror Flapping Lockup) - Report Yours Here!

Hey Bert… the first thing I would suggest is that you make sure you weren't accidentally in the wrong drive mode. It almost sounds like you were accidentally in interval or interval composite mode, instead of the drive mode you wanted to be in. I found it was easy to accidentally have selected the wrong one.

How do DRabbit,

Yeah, that's the first thing that i checked i.e. that i wasn't accidentally shooting in interval composite mode. It was happening in single frame shooting too. It hasn't happened since and I've been tinkering with it all night. Will see what happens, i need a firmware update though as i'm still on 1.00.

I'm not sure this is exactly the 'machine gun' like mirror flop problem, but my K3 has been acting up this evening quite a bit. It's firing sporadically by itself, maybe a shot every 3 or 4 seconds quite randomly. I was mostly on multiple exposure mode each time, although it has happened on single shot also (twice). The screen was blank after each time it did this in single shot mode. It's happened five times this evening over a period of an hour and a half of shooting. Ive removed the grip and take out the battery but still faced the issue again after. I'm shooting a three week old Pentax K3 silver with genuine Pentax batteries. I had the mirror flop issue with the K5 before and it was nothing like this. Anyone else have similar problems?

K-3 multi exposure and interval composite

Great job on the write up of the Multiple Exposure mode on the K3. It's nice to see it documented as the it's one of the best Multiple Exposures of any camera around now. For me, as i shoot multiple exposures 80-90 percent of the time, the K3's new M.E mode made it worth the upgrade alone. The fact that it is now in the drive mode makes life so much easier. What was annoying with the K5 M.E. mode was if you had shot 3 out 5 images (or whatever) and felt it was enough and cancelled the remaining exposures, when then again selecting M.E mode it would take one shot and knock out of a sequence of multiple exposures. This was a real nuisance. Now with the K3, that's no longer a problem.

The 'bright blend' composite mode is also a major added bonus and seems to open up a whole new creative mode. In particular i found this mode works amazingly for blending a sequence of Intentional Camera Movement M.E's. The way the pixels interact is massively different to the standard 'average' and additive' composite modes.

In a review of the K3 in Imaging Resource, it was stated that there was the option to select an image already stored on the camera as the first shot in a new series of multiple exposures at another time. I contacted the site and Pentax at the same time as i couldn't find any other info to confirm the K3 could do it. Pentax got back to me before the reviewer to confirm that it was incorrect but that they would forward it to the developers who may add it in a firmware update. Only the Canon 5d mark iii and 1D mark 'whatever the latest one is" has this feature now i believe. This would open a whole other door of creating images that would normally require Photoshop.

A wee example of the 5 M.E.s (four of them 1 second) in bright blend mode in the forest.

Yet another vote for the dfa 100. Superb lens with beautiful bokeh, and it serves me well for some telephoto landscape shots on rainy days. It's pretty much shelved my DA 35 macro and the DFA has a lovely rendering for humanoids and four legged amigos (not forgetting it's also full frame compatible if one comes about).

Nikon to Pentax K adapter for Samyang tilt shift?

Yeah i had heard that it might be why no release of it in Pentax mount yet.

Cheers, yeah i know of these. I have the Lensbaby Edge 80 already so ive got that part covered. The Arax 35mm seems to have some hit and very miss performance from what ive been able to find out about it. It's still pretty expensive to take a gamble on. Thanks though!

I found this on ebay. Would anyone know at all if it's remotely decent? It seems to be the same makers of the Arax but i dont know about the 'Mir' part of the equation.

Nikon to Pentax K adapter for Samyang tilt shift?

First off, apologies in advance if this in the wrong section as I wasn't too sure where to post it.

I would love to upcoming Samyang tilt shift which seems to have been postponed for Pentax mount if it even will get released at all. I am not interested in starting a Nikon setup, or going anywhere near Canon again to get a tilt shift or for anything else.

I was wondering if this adapter or any others would allow me to use the Samyang TS in Nikon mount for the K5? I intend to use it for more experimental selective focus work and don't mind loosing some sharpness. I am using the Lensbaby Edge 80 at the long at and loving it. If I had this for the wide end I would be one very happy camper!

It seems to me like this might work okay as the aperture ring is on the lens and its obviously a manual focus lens anywho. Or, am I wrong? Any help is much much appreciated!

35mm newbie, Question about ME Super film loading

Hi, I'm just starting my adventure into film photography, and have just loaded my first film in the ME Super. I thought I had done it correctly after watching a video and reading the manual, however in another video I watched after a guy mentioned that the 'film advance/rewind indicator' should show as white if loaded correctly. Mine Is displayed as red and black, so I'm wondering if I've done it incorrectly. I didn't see this mentioned in the manual or in any other videos so I'm just curious. Apologies for any stupid questions, I'm completely new to film.

Going Wide(r) on the K-01 - Any Advice? (10-15mm, <= $400)

I have the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6, the DA 15 limited and the Samyang 14 2.8. If the Samyang took filters I would probabably sell the other two ( The sigma is going soon). My copy of Samyang 14 2.8 is sharp wide open. Both the other two need to be stopped well down before they perform well across the frame. IMHO the DA15 is overpriced, although it does have its advantages like its flare resistance, small size and lack of distortion. If you don't need filters I would say go for the Samyang 14 2.8. Apparently it performs well on full frame too.

Here's a shot with it wide open at 2.8. Btw I deliberately softened the lower part where I was standing in Lightroom for effect.

help with wide angle

A very good option and which is also probably the cheapest is the Samyang 14 2.8. It's a manual focus only lens though, and it also doesn't allow the use of filters so if you intend to use them it's of no use. I have it along with the DA 15 and Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 and it's the best performer of the lot of them being sharp across the frame even from f 3.5 (it's a full frame lens so that might explain that part but it gets great reviews for full frame cameras too). It does however have plenty of distortion and the DA 15 beats it there as well as the da 15 being more flare resistant. It's easy to focus so the manual focus part isn't a problem ive found whatsoever. If i don't need filters, it's the first one i would use before the Sigma 10-20 and DA 15 any day. It's worth a think about if you don't need filters want to keep the costs down (and have a very good performing wide angle lens at that).

Pentax FA 43 or DA 35 Macro?

I have both, and would say the Fa43 limited any day (In fact, I would take the Fa 43 over my fa 31 as well). The rendering of the Fa43 is more appealing to my eye, and the Da35 macro seems a bit clinical at times in comparison. This is especially true for portraits particularly i would say, and the the FA 43 is a much nicer lens for landscape as well (all my subjective opinion) :)

Mc Arsat/ Arax 35mm Tilt Shift..any good?

Since it now seems that Samyang may or may not be releasing their new 24mm tilt shift lens in Pentax mount, I have been looking at this Arax or MC Arsat option. I can find very little on this 35mm ts lens and would love to hear from people who have used it. My intentions for using a tilt shift lens are for more experimental purposes in being able to isolate selective parts of the frame in a shot rather than any thing else.

Any thoughts on it are much appreciated.

Samyang to show 24mm F3.5 tilt-and-shift lens at Photokina

I emailed Samyang in the UK and they neither confirmed or denied that it would or wouldn't be released in Pentax mount at some stage, but he or she just said that they suspected Canon and Nikon in the first instance (no mention of Sony in the email). I am dying for a tilt shift lens (for more experimental purposes than anything). I seem a few people post about the Arax 35mm tilt shift or MC Arsat but I can't find a lot of info on them. Could anyone advise if they are any way good?
